If you plan on visiting historic Shrewsbury and want a bit more style than a chain hotel in town, and better value than an extortionate boutique, this is your place. Its an original 16th Century Tudor Manor House, with a fantastic chef an hospitality team on site. It even has a Moat. And its own Black Swans! I almost feel guilty telling Trip Advisor about this place, I half want to keep it to myself!!!

Lovely comfortable hotel, very high standards with attentive and friendly professional staff, we stayed for two nights, food very good and varied, a good bar and Bank's bitter served - very good pint! Lovely wedding ceremony, superb wedding reception. Everything just right in this hotel.

We had a two night stay at this hotel and it was wonderful. It is in a beautiful setting and our room was luxurious. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, they went above and beyond the call of duty. We ate in the restaurant and the food and service was impeccable,the breakfast was super. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Rather surprised at the last review, and yes, it probably is because you are from London! We stayed here on an overnight stopover from the West Country dropping our son back to Liverpool Uni and it looked a great place to make a break on the journey home. Restored by the owners with an obvious passion for preserving an ancient manor house with loads of history whilst also building a profitable business, that's just the way it is, even in London. The older parts of the building offer fabulous suites where everything is as it should be and our room, at the top of a winding staircase, had a very comfortable bed, good bathroom facilities including a jacuzzi bath and triple aspect over the surrounding Shropshire countryside. Along with quirky alcoves on the stairs, comfortable bar area and a very atmospheric restaurant full of eye catching architecture and pretty moated gardens to sit in if the weather was finer, I could think of a lot worse options that we may have opted for. Service was proper and restrained, wine list with good choices to fit most budgets and the food excellent and not pompous, followed up in the morning with a very good quality breakfast and very happy with the total bill for the privilege of staying in such a wonderful old manor house. I can't comment on the more modern extensions but, suffice to say, we travel most weekends and this is most definitely a place we would make a point of staying at again.

Our family (two adults, 3 kids aged 11-16 and dog!) stayed here for the weekend at October half term.
Our rooms were on the ground floor. My husband and I had a double room which was dark and dingy (decor was on a brown and beige colour scheme which didn't help), one small window with that textured glass you get in toilets, which looked on to a tiny dank courtyard housing the biomass boiler! Plus, as other reviews have mentioned, all the bedrooms have an overpoweringly strong smell of some sort of scented cleaning product. You would think the owners would have done something about this by now - it is a vile smell that gets in your throat and stays there!
So, the bedroom was disappointing.
The dinner menu was also a bit sad being overwhelmingly dominated by red meat. The only veggie option was a bizarre chickpea 'tagine' with quinoa (instead of cpus cpus) and some really weird goat's milk ice-cream. Not sure if this was meant to be ice-cream or whether it just hadn't been defrosted properly…. Anyway it didn't really resemble a tagine in any way! To be fair, the steak and chips which meat-eaters had seemed good although puddings were also a let down.
On the plus side, the staff were friendly and welcoming; the breakfast was fine including good cooked items; and they went the extra mile to make us welcome including rustling up some sandwiches for us in the bar on our last night when we didn't want a big meal. Plus they welcomed our dog and let her sleep in our room.
The garden is pretty and the surrounding countryside is gorgeous.
The whole thing has a bit of a Fawlty Towers/seventies time warp feel to it but maybe I am just a spoiled Londoner!!
On balance I would consider going back again as it is a lovely area just outside Shrewsbury and the main plus was the super-helpful staff.
It may be there are nicer rooms in the old part of the house, I don't know.

Me and our media crew stayed here for four days - it is a lovely place, with a wonderful terrace which looks out of Shropshire and where we, each Autumn evening, had the crew meetings over local beers. Nice rooms, a fascinating building, lovely friendly staff, and a very good restaurant too - have the game starter and the lamb main, with a pint of local beer.

We were treated to one night in a Suite for our 70th birthdays and the experience was perfect from booking in until we left. Staff were courteous, room was wonderful and both the evening meal and breakfast was excellent.

Stayed one night on business late rooms booking paid £120 for accommodation and breakfast for two, nothing to moan about (good internet without dropping out all time like some so called wifi friendly places) breakfast was good arrived bang on time, room service @ £5.00 per tray not cheap, some people moaned about this but then again you can go down for breaki if you want can't you ?

For a family wedding .Beautiful historical buildings some that were built in the 17 century.My room was in the modern wing and the soundproofing was very poor ,I could hear the conversation from the next room !!!Lots of places to sit and read or have a cup of tea..The grounds are picturesque and the wedding photos were done in the grounds .Loved the ducks and swans and the water .The views of the Shropshire hills were very good .Lovely hotel to relax.
The wedding breakfast was excellent ,all the staff efficient and friendly .

Went here for a birthday celebration with friends, it is a lovely building and venue, would be lovely for a wedding. The restaurant is decorated in keeping with the manor house and we chose to have the tasting menu with matching wines, food was delicious as was the wines. There are only little things that could have made it more special - nibbles with drinks, bread on table and felt courses and wines served a little to quickly. But the food was perfectly cooked, beef course was excellent, and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Room was ok, bathroom cramped and a little expensive for what it was. Nice selection for breakfast with good friendly service.

We stayed for one night at a reasonable price which also included breakfat and dinner. The old wing of the hotel dated to the 17th century and is well maintained with modern bathroom. The food at the restaurant is good but nothing exceptional.

We really enjoyed our two nights here. We had a lovely room,the food was very good,especially the dinner and the staff were excellent. We enjoyed looking round Shrewsbury,but then it was nice to return to the peace and quiet of the hotel.

The "new" wing of this old complex is badly designed. We were put into one of the better rooms 19, with a view, but it was small with little space to put clothes. The shower was awful. I would not stay there again (but my review of the restaurant is more favorable).

After having arrived quite late we were personally shown to our room. Very comfortable and a huge double bed. We had booked dinner for 8.30 pm and we ordered our meal from the comfort of the cocktail bar. Food was better then excellent and lots of it too!! Great wine and a fantastic choice of local cheeses to finish the meal off. Lovely dining room set in the oldest part of the house. Retired to the cocktail bar at 10.30 pm to end the evening with Port and Jamesons. Can not recommend this hotel highly enough. Wonderful setting with a relaxed informal atmosphere. Staff really attentive, friendly and helpful. will certainly return in the future.

Fabulous venue with lovely friendly staff and thanks to them the day was seamless. A lot of complements about the lunch - the quality of the food and service was terrific bearing in mind the largish crowd. Added touches (like home-made biscuits & fruit tea options) made a business day inside, when the sun was shining - an absolute joy.
Definitely worth booking for corporate events!

My husband and I got married two weeks ago at the Albright hussey. The staff were fantastic. They made our day so special and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food and service were delightful. Throughout the planning process to the day itself, they were on hand to guide us through the day and answer all our questions! Would recommend in a heartbeat!

Stayed at the hotel in September 2014 for my cousins sons 21st birthday party which was held in the hotel. The staff and its owner were all very wellcoming .
It is set just outside the town and was well equipped with ensuite rooms and easy access throughout the hotel.

Friends wedding - lovely hotel, really good food and more important a lovely setting for a wedding.

I stayed in the Albright Hussey manor for 2 nights for a close friends wedding. I have to say the venue is beautiful and well worth staying in for a wedding or just for a night away. However, the real gem of the hotel is its staff all the way from the manager to the bar staff. They were all extremely welcoming and could not do enough for us. Everyone one greeted us with a smile and with the upmost professionalism. If I am ever in this part of the world again I would not think twice about booking in! Plus the bar has a lovely spirits section and the cocktails have to be tried!

Attended fantastic wedding here August bank holiday . This independent hotel is a must for any bride . All the staff were caring and attentive . Cleaning staff shared our excitement in the morning . Waiter from Barcelona looked after everyone , making coffee and keeping bridal party calm , caring asking after elderly relatives .
Honestly couldn't have asked for better venue .
AND ..... No wet weddings at Albright ..... Garden wedding carried out perfectly .

Nice old hotel, friendly service and an excellent breakfast. The room I stayed in needed a little 'modernisation' but other than that I couldn't fault the place. I'd happily recommend it to friends and will stay again if in the area.
