The Albrighton Hussey Manor Hotel is a beautiful old building set in gorgeous gardens, definitely worthy of a special occasion. We had a standard room for which we paid £95 a night, a fair amount for this part of the country. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was fantastic, and the added extras (free mineral water, home-made biscuits) were the icing on the cake. The restaurant was pricy, but we were not disappointed; the wine selection and cheese board alone are worth going for! Breakfast was equally well-received.
The only concern we had was the slightly over-bearing hotel management. The front of house and restaurant staff were all delightful, however:
There were several stern notices in full view of the paying customer saying things like "DON'T serve drinks until you've added them to the bill, I will be checking!"
We politely requested a late check out, to which the receptionist was extremely apologetic, explaining that she would have to charge us extra if we wanted to keep the room for an extra hour. Never before have we stayed in a place who would not offer you complimentary late check-out if the room was free! Sadly, this seems to indicate that the management prioritise making money over great customer service.
This minor issue slightly soured an otherwise lovely stay.

A hotel with character and grace. This Tudor house is superb to the eye and the rooms are beautifully furnished and kept. the Staff could not do enough to help and the food was wonderful. Would stay again.

I was on a business stay so didn't get the chance to really appreciate this hotel however, it was comfortable, clean and all the staff I came into contact with were very friendly and helpful. Would certainly stay again.

We booked an overnight dinner, bed and breakfast deal on one of the social deal sites.

The weather was so bad that we did not look around the outside of the building. As you approach, the old house frontage is spectacular, but the majority of the hotel appears to be a modern annex.

The reception is welcoming and the lady on reception was pleasant and efficient. We were quickly shown to our room. This was comfortable, clean and tidy. The shower in the bathroom was excellent. No complaints about the room at all.

Down stairs in the main reception area and the stairs to bedroom corridor, there is a strange smell....don't know if there has been a spillage in the past.. a slight musty smell.

There was enough places to sit and read or watch television, or sit and chat in the bar area.
Old fashioned decoration, that gave the areas a cosy and comfortable feel.

We found the the bar and restaurant staff very likeable and gave good service.

The gourmand meal was delicious and good value for money.

Overall a very enjoyable stay. Would definitely stay there again, especially if part of a deal.

arrived yesterday evening and staying tonight also. wanted a change from the premier inn type scene, and on arrival I was straight away transported into the old style traditional hotel that I wanted. staff who were obviously determined to treat a guest well, chain hotels do not always manage this. honestly such good service I feel so much more relaxed than I have ever done in a chain hotel, no conveyer belt concept here. lovely service in the restaurant, the Rioja is amazing - for anyone wanting a nice glass of wine.the decor well it's a bit dated but somehow that is very relaxing for a business visitor, I won't say home from home as this is a lovely hotel with room service, power shower and the nicest manager I have had the pleasure to meet for some years, a true hotel welcome provided. To be able to sit in the cocktail bar very comfortably at the end of a working day, on my own and feel like a guest who is cared for, is worth the stay alone, again this would never happen in a chain hotel for me I would feel too uncomfortable. I would recommend giving the Albright a visit, I'm going to miss my cosy room and as I have never wanted to make that comment before, there must be something about the Albright Hussey. oh yes there is free wifi in all areas, great choice of tv channels, very comfortable bed, Abundance of pillows, filter coffee in the room, ... but one request would be more bathroom toiletries to soak in the bath with please, that would be the icing on the cake for a weary business lady.

Absolutely beautiful building but let down by the adjoining bedroom block which had the most appalling smell. Don't expect an array of quality toiletries though as we were only provided with shampoo and shower gel. Bedrooms were adequate but in need of updating - flimsy old-fashioned curtains etc.
The staff are very friendly and helpful perhaps even over-friendly as I did not want to hear continuous chatter from the waiter whilst eating my breakfast. Just wanted to be left in peace! Coffee on our first morning was undrinkable so decided to have tea on 2nd morning. Thought I would risk the coffee on the 3rd morning and it was delicious!
On our first evening we went out for dinner and when we returned we couldn't park and had to go into the overflow car park which had no lighting and no indication as to which direction to walk to the hotel. It was freezing cold, dark and pouring with rain and was a fair walk. It seems there was an event on at the hotel that evening which was why we had difficulty parking. Perhaps a dedicated parking space for each hotel guest would be in order to prevent spaces being taken by people who are not staying overnight.
We ate in the restaurant on our final night and it was very good indeed. I should add that we were told we couldn't eat in the dining room on our first evening as there was a birthday party being held that night. We were informed of this by phone the previous day but another couple we met didn't find this out until they arrived. If you want a nice hotel for a quiet break then check first that there are no weddings or other events taking place.

My favourite restaurant in Shrewsbury. Nice to get away from town once in a while, and The Albright Husseys restaurant is in an amazing location just a short drive away. Swans, moat, landscaped gardens...! First class food and service.

My husband and I got married here in September 2013 so we do have a soft spot for the Albright Hussey but with good reason. It is a beautiful tudor manor house full of charm and is extremely cosy and welcoming. The staff are all fantastic but special mention must go to Malcolm who is an absolute sweetheart and always makes us feel extremely welcome. Our latest visit was on the 28th December 2013 and as always, we had an excellent stay. The food on the evening was delicious and the full English breakfast was lovely. I would highly recommend the Albright Hussey to anyone.

From start to finish the family enjoyed the stay. All staff were helpful and friendly throughout. The atmosphere was excellent and after a recent stressful few weeks, we all quickly got into the Christmas mood!
The food is excellent. We plan to do the same next year.
Book the Xmas pantomime on the Saturday before Christmas and have a truly relaxing stay as well.

On our arrival, the reception staff were polite but not over welcoming. Our room was in the new part of the hotel and was ok - nothing special.

The restaurant (in the old part of the hotel) was lovely. We had the 8 course tasting menu which we couldn't fault. The bar & restaurant staff were all very friendly and attentive. Service was excellent.

Spent a night here - including an 8 course gourmet tasting meal. The room in the newer part of the hotel was OK, but not wonderful. The dining room however was beautiful as it's in the old part of the hotel. The service from the moment we walked into the dining room bar was exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble, and Malcolm, the General Manager, was on hand to expand on the wine list and to make sure everything went smoothly. The staff were pleasant and efficient and the meal was a joy. Nicely balanced and cooked. The breakfast next morning was very good, with a range of locally sourced food, replenished on a regular basis so that everything tasted freshly done.

The only disappointment was that there was nowhere to sit and read. We had envisaged a manorial lounge with a big open fire and big comfy settees to lounge about on, where we could enjoy reading along with a cup of coffee. We were invited to pull up a couple of chairs in front of the fire [an open gas one] in the restaurant - but it wasn't the same.

Despite the lack of a lounge we enjoyed our visit. Malcolm clearly runs a tight ship - but always seems to have time to stop and chat. He is very entertaining and knowledgeable. A real asset to the hotel.

You may find it hard to locate this hotel, but the time-weathered building you arrive at, set in lovely partially-moated gardens hosting a pair of black swans, make the search seem worthwhile. Reception, bar, dining room and banqueting suite are housed in the beautiful old building; bedrooms in a newer annex. And it's that annex that, at least on our visit, had a strange, musty smell as you opened the doors on to a carpet that had seen better days and climbed the stairs.

Our room was fine - small, but nicely equipped (including home-made biscuits with the tea and coffee making facilities), and with a good Freeview television offering the full range of TV and radio channels. There was an excellent view out to surrounding countryside as well. Our large bathroom, with big, kidney-shaped bath, was excellent.

The hotel prides itself on its fine cuisine, and the tasting menus we enjoyed lived up to billing. Wine choice was also good.

There was a wedding party one of the nights we were there, and all the guests looked very happy with what they had been provided.

Hot dishes at breakfast were cooked to order, with an excellent choice. Sunday breakfast saw a hot buffet selection, but orders were also taken for items not on it such as kippers, smoked haddock or various eggs.

It is not cheap, though we were given a good deal, and overall seemed reasonable value although our room was smaller than we had expected at this sort of price..

Now, if only something could be done about that musty smell.

I stayed here for a friends wedding, I love this type of building. We stayed in the new part of the building though which was nice and close to the restaurant and event.

One of the best parts was Malcolm, we had a great time learning about port and wine.

I would recommend this place and I know my friend whose wedding it was would agree.

We have just spent a very enjoyable weekend with friends at the Albright Hussey Manor. The setting is lovely. The meals and wine were excellent. The service was spot on... nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Some of our rooms (in the newer wing) could have been of a higher standard but all in all we had a memorable and very pleasant break.

We went on a Travelzoo offer which included 1 night's accommodation and an 8 course meal. We couldn't fault the staff, service, food and accommodation - the manager's good humour created a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.

What a lovely place to stay. We cannot speak highly enough of the staff at this lovely old Manor House. Nothing was too much trouble. The room we stayed in was well presented, good bedding and towels, nice complimentary toiletries. Excellent Sunday lunch, probably one of the best we have ever had out and the breakfast was also very good. The grounds are a delight, very peaceful place to stay. Would definately stay again.

Stayed for 3 nights in this hotel. Everything ok, the only downside was that there is no fridge in the room. The rest (near) to perfect. Was on the upper floor with nice views. Gardens very well maintained.
Certainly a place to go back to.

What a fantastic stay! We were given an upper floor room overlooking the grounds. The floors were uneven, the boards creaked and we couldn't have been happier! We did the tasting menu for dinner and the food was amazing! After dinner we sat in the parlor area and enjoyed late night libations with other people staying at the hotel. The staff was great and attentive. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!!
