I stayed at the Albright Hussey on the 23rd - 25th March 2012, second time round...The room was light and airy, decor pleasing to the eye and the bed very comfortable.

The staff were brilliant and friendly, if I could give them an award, I would. The owner Paul, is an hands on chap. I was sat by the lawn having a lovely drink in the sun shine, Paul the owner, was cutting the grass then started to chat now that is what I call taking pride in your business and ensuring every visitor is happy.

I will be back and would recommed this hotel to every one I could

Stayed here 25/2/2012 for 2 nights, thought at first when booking that it was a little expensive, but wow!, it was worth it. We stayed in the top room on the old part, a bit of a climb to the room and wobbly floors /stairs, a bit difficult with luggage, but just look at how old this place is!! What an experience /adventure, we could sense the history of the building. So interesting and quite large rooms. We ate here both nights and the food is really excellent, and service second to none. Just not a great choice for non meat eaters, but realy high quality food. We booked a 3rd night in a very nearby 4*chain Hotel, and regretted this, so much so , that we went back to the Albright for Sunday lunch and what excellent value it was, and they serve to 8.00pm,

We had a wonderful evening at The Hussey restaurant. Superb food and service, a truly quality restaurant... at more than reasonable prices. We will definitely be back.

We spent New Year 2011/12 with four friends at the Hotel. We couldn't have been made more welcome by the most friendly staff. The building is beautiful and although our room was in the newer block it was clean and spacious with a newly refurbished bathroom. The food was of the highest standard and how they cooked so many fillet steaks on New Years Eve was a miracle of organisation! We all said it was one of our best value New Year trips and we left with a warm feeling - what more could you ask of a hotel?

A family wedding brought me to the Albright Hussey Manor Hotel, located on the edge of Shrewsbury. This hotel combines ancient and modern very well; the hotel restaurant is located in an old half-timbered building of great character. Most rooms are located in a new wing.
Our double room was comfortable, very traditionally furnished, with a small but satisfactory bathroom.
The attractive restaurant served a good breakfast (essentially self-service). Dinner was tasty but the à la carte menu is not cheap and portion size not over-generous.
Staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and efficient.
Although I would probably not stay at this hotel a second time, this is not a reflection on my recent experience.

I have visited this hotel several times to eat and have stayed here a couple of times too, the latest being last week for two nights. I agree with comments other reviewers have made about the 'new' block. The rooms are clean but the decor is a bit 'dated'.

The breakfast was excellent and was served in the restaurant in the old part of the hotel. A good selection of options are available in addtion to the 'full English' which is more than adequate. We had dinner in the private room adjacent to the restaurant and the food and atmosphere were good.

Staff very helpful.

Overall, I feel that the 'old' part of the hotel which has lots of character is let down by the new bit. Nevertheless, I will stay here again. My rating is very good based on the price we paid.

The hotel was I thought a little bit expensive at £120 a night. We were there for a wedding,so the cost was not too much consideration. The room was in the new wing,it was clean with a large double bed. There was a good quality tea tray with homemade biscuits and filter coffee as well as a couple of bottles of water. There were also some sweets in a jar as well.
The bathroom was a good size with lovely huge soft towels. The toiletries were a bit sparse but more were available if needed.
The breakfast was good quality, with plenty of fruit, juices and cereals. The cooked option was good too.The house wine was a little expensive at nearly £18 a bottle. We would go back, but only for a special occasion.

I stayed at the hotel for two nights to attend a wedding.

My room was in the new part of the hotel and it was clean if a little dated. The bathroom could do with a pep up but this was purely cosmetic and it didn't really detract from my stay. There were nice little touches in the room that showed that the hotel was trying to make guests feel welcome.

The main thing that struck me was the consistency and quality of the service. Everyone was more than happy to help and made me feel very welcome. From the reception desk who got me from arrival and into my room in 5 minutes after a long drive to the staff at breakfast who were friendly and helpful on both of my visits.

It was a beautiful location for a wedding and all it all a great weekend.

Congratulations and 10 out of 10 for customer service.

We have just held my Daughters wedding at the Hussey and I can only find good words to say about the Hotel and its staff. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and thier efforts lead us to having a fanatastic time here our wedding party took up all of the rooms in the hotel, we stayed in one of the suites on the top floor of the Hotel which was very nice with four poster bed in lovely big room, and a bathroom with whirlpool bath.
Breakfast was self service on morning after the wedding but some of the ladies in the party stayed the previouss night and they were served with thier breakfast so I guess it depends on the number of guests they have in at any one time. Thanks again to Paul and David ( and all the other staff) for their help in making our daughters day truly special,

We paid £175 per night for B&B for two nights as a special birthday celebration. The room was in the old part of the manor house and winding our way up to the top of the house was lovely with all the old timbers and uneven floors. It was clean and well kept with nice Jacobean style furniture. The room itself was nice and airy with lovely views and the bed was very comfortable however we were disappointed in that there were stains on the carpet - probably old red wine stains - and the bathroom was a bit shabby. The side panel was lose at one end and the wall paper was torn and curling and the plug in one of the sinks didn't work so the water drained away.
There was a wedding on and we got to watch a lovely fireworks display from the bedroom window on the saturday evening. The wedding was no problem to us as they weren't rowdy, however the next morning we had to join the wedding party for a self service breakfast which was not what we expected. We felt that £175 for B&B we should have been served breakfast or at the very least told that the policy was for a self serve breakfast if there were over a certain number of people - and we were not. The sunday morning we were served breakfast in the lovely dining room in the old part of the house.
The staff were all very nice and helpful and the girl on reception said she would take the issues up with the management - I hope they listen and do something about it!
These things didn't spoil our weekend - we enjoyed ourselves - but they took the edge off the experience at The Albright Hussey

Even though we only stayed one night, we loved this place. The food was superb as was the service! We would like to stay in a deluxe room next time.
Only criticsm was the poorly designed bathroom that meant a squeeze to get in and the need to be an acrobat to get out of the bath!

My friend told me about the wedding and you are right, she said it was all perfect, the staff, the location everything.
I wish you 2 all the luck together and I'll be visiting the Albright Hussey Manor this weekend to convince myself.

Just a very short note to you all for our wonderful weekend break in March 2011 on our wedding anniversary. From the minute we arrived until we left you all could not have done more, the food was all excellent with very friendly and helpful staff no matter what time of the day. This was our first stay but will definitely not be our last, we both look forward to seeing you all later in the year. Regards Linda & Ian Whiting

I travelled with my husband and sister and brother in law for an overnight stay .The welcome earliy in the morning was no problem although hours before normal check in .We recieved excellent service from the staff especially Malcolm who greeted us in the bar prior to dinner and recommended a really good wine to accompany our dinner .The dining room is small and intimate reflecting its long history and the food was excellent with no formal table d'hote but a good selection from the a la carte menu of locally sourced produce.(we spoke to the chef to thank him for the good food when he advised us of this).Good location off the road so quiet but near to Shrewsbury and the park and ride bus.Good rooms with all you would expect from a 4 * hotel

Thank you so very much for such a lovely stay over the weekend. Everything was just right - lovely rooms, attentive service and a gorgeous meal. Please pass on our compliments to the chef too - I eat out quite a lot in London and the food knocked spots off the last meal we had at a celebrity chef's (who will remain nameless!) restaurant recently.

Hope to be able to stay with you again in the not too distant future, and once again, thanks so much for a brilliant time.

On behalf of the six of us that stayed at your Hotel last weekend and attended the candle lit ball, I would very much to like thank you so much for the help, attention and advice you kindly gave us that made our stay so welcoming and wonderful. We all thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Hotel and seeing the Shrewsbury sights and your advice was incredibly useful and informative. We loved the Armoury and your shopping and general advice

I would also like to thank your staff who also were wonderful and helpful and would have no hesitation in recommending the Hotel as being the best in Shrewsbury and the surrounding area.

The candle lit ball was superb in every way and just shows that the Albright Hussey Manor can’t just arrange lovely weekends away but can also be relied on to arrange professionally events as well.

Thank you all again

Just got back from a very relaxing long weekend away. I cannot praise the hotel and it's staff highly enough. We stayed in the Royalist Suite I wish we could have taken the bed home with us so comfy! We had a wonderful meal in the restaurant and the breakfasts were superb. The only down side was that when people walk about it's very noisy as the floorboards creak but that's old houses for you. Just adds to it's charm. If you want a long relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings then this is the hotel for you.

I got married at the Albright Hussey on 5th February 2011 and I couldn't have asked for more. The day was relaxed and perfect due to the efforts of Paul, Malcolm, David and all the staff who did absolutley everything so I didn't need to. We stayed the night before and had a fantastic meal in the restaurant and from the time I woke up on the day of the wedding I didnt need to think about a thing. We stayed in the Hussey Suite which is amazing - a huge room with separate bathroom and whirlpool bath. All off my guests commented on the facilities and helpfulness of the staff. The weather was terrible but for our firework display umbrellas were handed out and I could not have asked for more. Thank you so much for making it the perfect day (dont listen to the negative reviews - some people have no taste and just cant be pleased - there is nothing about this venue I could criticise - especially the food which is a la carte at its best )

Paul and his staff did a fantastic job of making our stay just perfect. The food in the restaurant is divine and the Hussey Suite is THE place to stay. 11/10.

We spend last Friday and Saturday nights at the hotel and daughter was married there on the Saturday. The service was faultless and the owners couldn't have done more for us from first looking at the venue right through to the wedding. We had a family room number 14 which had its own lounge and two TV's the bed was comfortable and the place was clean and inviting. I have read some of the previous reports and cannot believe they were talking about the same place. The wedding was wonderful, although the weather outside was blowing a gale and it was raining it did nothing to dampen our spirits Paul even managed to organise the firework display. The food was excellent both at the wedding and the previous evening, breakfast was more than anyone could want. They even have their own delightful Spanish waiter who supports Shrewsbury Town which went down well with my grandson.

Thanks again everyone at the Albright Hussey unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) we only have one daughter so no excuse for another wedding there but we will certainly visit again

In summary "a funny old mix"!

Hotel owned and furnished by an Italian family in I think the 1980s. Some will not find their "taste" to their liking (rather a lot of gilt furniture). However, if you are not used to luxurious hotels then you'll think this is the bees knees. Personally I think it could do with being a little simpler or maybe have genuine antique furniture and less faux / reproduction stuff/busy carpets etc.

There is a fairly bland modern extension out back (how the planners let them attach this to the stunning Tudor original I do not know...(brown envelopes perhaps?). Anyway, when booking ask to be put in "the manor" otherwise you may end up in the modern Barrett like box (a trip across the car park from Reception) and to be frank you could be staying anywhere (Travelodge/Premier Inn etc).

I had room 3 which unfortunately is above the bar and you can hear people talking below, so I was kept awake til 3am the first night. I did email a whinge to the hotel and the manager (owner) rang me and was a) very apologetic b) offered to move me, despite only staying two nights and c) committed to there being no noise the second night (which there wasn't). It was really refreshing to be taken seriously and to be treated courteously=Full marks.

The other thing that to me is the selling feature of this hotel (aside from how the building looks) is the food. Wow. Absolutely stunning. I know my food and this was great quality, not overly fussy but imaginative with fresh quality ingredients. I'm definitely going to return just to have the chef's "platter": Chunkily cut smoked salmon with a wonderful muted colour and deep intense taste, fabulous cured ham, sublime chicken parfait which was almost pudding like, served with fresh salad and various sauces. Stunning.

The manager even gave me a free (large!) glass of wine on the house to apologise for the noise from the bar the previous night.

A wonderful family run hotel - I wish them every success. Keep investing in your rooms tho as some are more fussy than others :-)
