We enjoyed revisiting Lichfield Cathedral, learning more about its history, seeing the Doctor Johnson portrait and grateful to the gentleman who talked about the angel.

Didn’t “feel “ it here . Little information given out here. I am a great church/cathedral visitor , but, I am sorry to say this one left me cold .
Over zealous staff , pushing too hard for donations didn’t help I am afraid. I know funds are needed , but, it was quite embarrassing to hear their spiel.

Well worth a visit , lots of information, free entry but would recommend a generous donation so that this can continue. Good gift shop.

Lichfield Cathedral is an absolutely stunning church, the only medieval cathedral with three spires in England [Truro in Cornwall has one with three spires, but it's not medieval]. Visitors will find this place in an utterly beautiful state of conservation, including the simply marvelous painted glass windows. There's a lot to explore here, and you should calculate at least 1.5 hours to inspect most of the artworks and artifices. The entry is free, and you're allowed to take pictures at no extra cost. Donations are suggested of course, but unlike the people at e.g. Salisbury Cathedral, they don't hammer the point home. Having visited maybe two dozens of such churches over the past ten years, I would rate Lichfield Cathedral an 9 out of 10 [My personal favourite is Ely Cathedral]. If you ever come to this city, a visit is mandatory.

The building lacks the visual impact of many other cathedrals due in large part to the stone of which it was built. The structure clearly needed much renovation from the attention it received from the Victorian restorers but when one considers the craftsmanship they bought to the task that in itself is impressive. Sad to see the statue of King Charles left outside to moulder.

Incredible as you walk around the exterior, the sculptures of the saints are multiple and incredibly impressive. Walking the vista is breathtaking. The carvings, the whole of the interior is such an awe inspiring dedication to their God. There are multiple chapels, and the access allowed is incredible as many places of worship significantly restrict the areas you can enjoy, Not here! Whilst we were there a choir was rehearsing and the acoustics were breathtaking. A must visit for anyone of any faith, or none, to truly enjoy an incredible historic and architectural achievement that we can all enjoy. I hope you are lucky enough to hear a choir even close to the harmonic beauty of the one we enjoyed (by chance). I am truly glad that we "dropped by when we were in the area".

This us a lovely cathedral, so much to see. They have some brilliant events on. Their light shows are brilliant especially the Christmas ones. I recently saw the brilliant Lesley Smith here. I have already got my tickets for next month to see Benjamin Zephaniah. You should take a look at the events listing.

We had some friends staying with us and so decided to go on the tour of the cathedral heights- in a word WOW! Our guide was so knowledgeable, humorous, and caring we all had a great time. It was wonderful to see our home city from a different perspective and it didn’t disappoint. Lichfield looked splendid in the autumnal sunshine and our guests were bowled over and eager to return. A highly recommended activity for locals and out of towners alike.
