Little Gate Farm celebrate the success of the pilot phase of their Supported Apprenticeship Programme.

What happens when you enter retirement age 68, only to discover it’s not what you want after all? Which way do you turn? How do you decide what to do next? Sixty-nine-year-old Dee Flower is an example of someone who found herself in this unexpected situation. But returning to employment in a new role has left her happier and more content than she’s ever been. Last week we attended a Creative Café held at Saxon Mount School. The idea behind the café is to get school-age children thinking about employment & to give them a small taste of what having a job is like. The focus was on the pupil’s strengths & skills. They were asked to answer questions like “what’s the point of this task?” & “what skills do I need to do this job?”. It was great to see all the children getting involved & starting to think about the choices they have when they leave school. It wasn’t all work, there were crafts & cakes too!!

The Disability Confident scheme supports employers to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to your workplace.

Thanks to players of the National Lottery, Little Gate Farm will be creating apprenticeships for 50 young people with learning disabilities and autism across East Sussex.

We’ve been reflecting on what a huge year 2018 has been for Little Gate Farm... so what have we been up to this year?

On Friday 9th November, Elly Frost attended Bexhill Town Hall to receive a special Mayor’s award for her achievement in gaining paid employment. Elly attended Glyne Gap School and then the Glyne Gap Faculty at Bexhill College.

Job Coaches at Little Gate Farm have a varied and interesting job!! Not only do we get individuals with learning difficulties and autism into paid employment, giving them dignity, confidence and a sense of purpose. We also get the opportunity to support them in the workplace for the first few months until they can complete their tasks independently.

Little Gate Farm will be having a stall at this unique event for people with disabilities & their families/carers.
