If you are considering a trip to Guernsey, we can completely recommend The Duke of Richmond Hotel. We had booked a standard room, but were offered a superior room at check-in, for a very reasonable upgrade fee. Having looked at the difference in the rooms, it was a no brainer. I would say the standard rooms would be great for a couple staying for a two or three nights, however, as we were celebrating our anniversary we thought we would treat ourselves.

The superior room, which looked out over the terrace, was recently refurbished, very clean, and really spacious. We had a lovely breakfast each morning, and stopped in for a bar meal one evening. Parking is very limited. We hired a car through reception for one day; it was great to have a proper look around the island and although you will eventually find parking near the hotel, it is on the street, don’t expect to be able to get into the hotel’s allocated spaces.

All in all, a great hotel. All the staff were really helpful and friendly, we’ve already booked our next stay!

The hotel was ideal as a solo traveler and I was given a large double room and not stuck in a pokey single room hidden in the back of the hotel. The staff were all helpfil and friendly throughout my stay.
The location was good and was about ten minutes walk into the centre, although the walk back up the hill certainly kept me healthy.
The breakfasts were great and I was spoilt for chince. I also had dinner on one evening and couldn't fault the food or service.

If your travels take you to guernsey the duke of richmond is the hotel. Enjoy the comfort, the relaxation and attentive staff who you make sure your stay meets all expectations. Whether you dine in the restaurant or in the bar the quality of food is excellent. The weather in guernsey for the week I was there was very windy which halted all of my visits to the smaller islands - but the hotel made up for all those dissappointments.

The Duke of Richmond is ideally located to the Port and nearby shops and restaurants. Whilst the hotel boasts large rooms with excellent decor, it is the staff who excel. From check-in they couldn't have been more helpful and made the trip all the more enjoyable and worry free. The hotel has superb facilities including a beautiful patio area and pool. I will be going back again!

Stayed here for three nights on bed breakfast basis. Breakfast was excellent - buffet selection and also waitress service for main course - good selection. We found the staff to be friendly and courteous at all times from the Reception to housekeeping - restaurant/bar. We ate in the hotel bar a couple of evenings - the food was well cooked and presented and plentiful. Prices were 'mid range' but if you ate in the restaurant prices were more - as we assume its all cooked in the same kitchen we opted for the informal surroundings of the bar. Room was a decent size - there are some rooms available with balcony but assume these were more expensive but for 3 nights what we had was fine. The only downside to the room was that there was no air conditioning and we did find it was a bit too warm at night time. Theres a swimming pool and patio area but didn't get chance to use pool - a bit on the chilly side and spent time sight seeing. A visit by boat to Herm is well worth it but make sure its a nice day - not a lot to do there but very scenic and peaceful - beautiful white sand beaches and blue sea!

Stayed at the Duke of Richmond for a three day break recently. Lovely hotel, room was large and very clean and the staff were always very helpful. Hotel has a relaxing bar area too. Only slight negative point perhaps is that the room was very warm but you can open windows so that's ok and this didn't present with excessive noise from outside.

Woudl definetly recommedn this hotel and would stay there again.

I have stayed at this hotel for over for 350 nights in the last two and a half years ! I really do have my own home back in England ,but my job requires that I spend alot of time in Guernsey

So why do I keep coming back to this hotel again , again and again ?

1. The re-furbished superior and mid range rooms are spacious, extremely well equipped and very clean with flat screen TVs as standard

2. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, especially those on reception

3. The breakfasts are great with much variety and the cooked service is very speedy

4. The room service is also very quick !

5. In my judgement this hotel offers value for money given the overall excellent quality of service

This hotel is superb in every way! The location is very peaceful and not too far away to be able to take a nice gentle walk to the town and port. Cleanliness of all areas was extremely impressive. The comfort of the bed was second to none! Delicious breakfasts served by efficient and attentive restaurant staff. Other employees were also professional, friendly, and immaculate in appearance making the entire stay one to remember. Thank you all for a most enjoyable break!

We had a short family break at the Duke of Richmond for three nights, leaving 16th July 2009. Our children are aged 9 and 11, and although they don't have family suites at the hotel they put us in a superior room with two extra beds for the kids, and this was fine. The room was huge, so plenty of space to move around and everything was clean, tidy and modern.

The hotel is ideally situated to look around St Peter Port and it's only a 7-8 minute walk into the centre of town area. The hotel's location means it's pretty quiet and we had no problems with noise.

The children loved the outdoor pool - which was actually warm! Towels are provided poolside.

Breakfasts were fine with a good choice, and we had one evening meal which was fine, but a bit quiet and formal for a young family.

We were surprised to be the only family in the hotel, and most of the clients appeared to be French, German or Dutch but I suppose the main English school holidays hadn't quite kicked-in everywhere.

Like some other reviewers, a word of praise for Shelley on reception who is not only very helpful, but does appear to be bit more on-the-ball that most people in Guernsey. The island is very beautiful, but other hotels and services I dealt with didn't actually seem too bothered about chasing business, but Shelley has a great customer-servive attitude.

Otherwise, the rest of the hotel staff were great and I would recommend the Duke Of Richmond for business or leisure.

We chose the Duke of Richmond for a short break holiday to celebrate our Ruby Wedding anniversary. What a good choice it was! We had difficulties initially in finding the hotel - not the hotel's fault at all - due to Guernsey's almost complete failure to show any street names on walls or to provide signposts at junctions. About an hour after leaving the airport in our hire car (and the exchange of a few harsh words regarding map-reading!) we found the hotel, recognising it from the on-line photographs. Shelley in Reception did a good job in soothing our frustration and arranged an up-grade to a superior room for us. It was spacious and well-appointed with glorious views to the left of the harbour and of Sark. We ate in the hotel restaurant and enjoyed the food and service so much that we returned again and again. We had the best mussels we have ever eaten, here - thanks to the chef who cooked them simply and to perfection. Breakfasts were huge, with a very wide choice, and the bacon in particular is worth sampling. Olga and her staff made everything special, and I hope the management know what a gem they have in their Maitre d'Hote.
Guernsey is a beautiful island. Flowers everywhere, hydrangeas as big as dinner plates, and local people who are more than willing to exchange a few words and offer welcome to tourists, make this a wonderful place to visit. We enjoyed the Guernsey Museum, and the Candie Gardens, the Occupation Museum and a visit to Bruce Russell Goldsmiths place near the airport , where the gardens are as beautiful as the jewellery.
Having started with a complaint about the lack of signage, and I do hope the Guernsey authorities will address this in the future, I will finish with a word of praise for them. Thank you for the FREE car-parking available all over the island, including the busy town-centre and sea-front car-parks.
If you are considering a trip to Guernsey, you could not do better than stay at the Duke of Richmond.

At last finding time for this must do review. It was my wife’s idea to take our first visit to Guernsey at the end of May, initially we found it difficult to decide on a location etc and were not encouraged by some other hotel reviews then we came across The Duke of Richmond and never looked back. From ease of booking arrangements (Thanks to Shelley) and very good nights sleep from the word go to their last minute rescue at the port, having forgotten our travel documents as we were about to board the Condor Express home. We chose to book one of the superior rooms which was very comfortable and agree absolutely with other reviewers and other guests we met, that service here was always very pleasant. The breakfast menu had a great deal of choice and dinners, where both food presentation and taste were excellent, offered very good value – You just could not help dining at the hotel most nights. Location turned out to be just right also, with views over town and sea. On your doorstep is the Guernsey Museum and lovely Candie Gardens making the 10 minute walk to/from port and town a delight. It suited us to travel as foot passengers from Weymouth on this trip leaving our car in the care of Condor (£35 for 7+ days) which worked very well. Although we hired a car for 2 days we felt the buses were ideal for getting around, with all services starting from St Peter Port. Leave enough time for at least a day each in Herm and Sark where the tranquillity and views are stunning. Many thanks to all at The Duke of Richmond for making us feel so relaxed and at home. Best wishes from Pam & Rick

For anyone thinking of visiting beautiful Guernsey in the Channel Islands, The Duke of Richmond Hotel is a must stay. We stayed in this Hotel a couple of years back and found it to be perfectly located, just a short strole from St. Peters Port. We found ourselves returning this May to visit friends and family and was amazed that this Hotel is still only 3 star and not 4 star deluxe which it truly deserves.

It offers guests an elegant yet stylish stay. The decor is subtle and the rooms are spacious for long stays. It offers extremely friendly and attentive service from staff and the food, especially the Breakfast is delicious, well presented and most definately great value for money.

Two names to remember when visiting this Hotel is the Head Waitress, Olga and the Bar Manager, Orlando. Better service than these two offers are truly hard to find, especially coming from a Globe Trotter like myself.

Hope you enjoy your stay at The Duke of Richmond Hotel!

We stayed here in April and had the most amazing time, the staff were the best they treated us like friends the minute we walked in the door and nothing was too much trouble, check in was quick and easy and the porter helped get us and the luggage up to the room quickly. The room was clean and modern but just a little bit small for the two of us the bed was very comfy but again a little bit small but this would be my own very small moan with this near perfect stay. We have already booked to go back and we can wait. Guernsey is a great place to visit and I would recommend this as a great weekend short break island.

Very happy to recommend this one. It is a good value establishment. The chef is superb providing wonderful food - presented as a work of art. Much cheaper for eating than most hotels. The staff, without exception treated us as valued guests and I cant wait to return.
A jazz festival coming up at the end of October and they are offering well priced package deals.
If you want to eat elsewhere other than the wonderful hotel, the staff are happy to suggest other places and to book for you and help with taxis etc.
Would highly recommend this place.

This is a great hotel for anyone visiting the Island who wants a comfortable stay close to the amenities of St Peter Port. Service is of a very high standard. Staff are welcoming and professional. The atmosphere is informal yet efficient. The superior room we booked was comfortable and very clean with an excellent shower. Drinks and toiletries were regularly topped up. Breakfast was very good. There was a wide choice of dishes and a good buffet. A bar meal we had on the first night was very great and very good value. We would vist again and recommend without hesitation. There are lots of eating places in town. Many have good value early evening deals including "The Square" in the old French Halls where we ate a three course meal and drank a bottle of house red for £ 10.50 each ! Needless to say it was packed out with locals. Do take a trip out to the wild west coast for some great walks around Portelet . Herm is well worth a visit. The last two centuries have done little to change the wonderful atmosphere and stunning environment

Excellent newly refurbished rooms.
Service throughout 100%
Consider booking dinners with hotel room as food was excellent with reasonably priced wine.
About 5 to 10 minute walk downhill to town centre.
Excellent and economical bus travel.

My friend and I stayed three nights at this hotel. The staff were very good, very attentive and courteous. Breakfast was excellent and the hotel very clean. However our bedroom was something else. It was clean but very very dated and old fashioned, It is a long time since I have seen an avocado suite, tiles from the 70's, blankets and bedspreads, old hairdryer and polystyrene tiles on the ceiling. The disappointment was increased when we glimpsed other bedrooms that had been refurbished with white suites, duvets and neutral decor. We had asked for a twin room and booked through air miles so whether this made any difference to our room allocation maybe, however it was a huge disappointment when the other facilities were good. I advise that if you book this hotel you ensure you avoid room 303.

Just arrived back this morning from the Duke of Richmond, Guernsey. We arrived Sat morning to a very friendly receptionist who kindly upgraded us to a Park Side Executive Room (we had only booked a standard double). It was an excellent size, with good facilities - flat screen TV, new shower and comfortable queen size bed. The breakfast we excellent - with tentative staff and lots of delicious things to eat. The hotel was in a perfect location - 5 mins for the town (St Peter's Port), and the hill proved excellent for keeping your bum in trim! I would certainly use this hotel again and was very impressed with it's excellent customer service and overall standards / appearance. The bar is nautically cute - but the prices were a tad expensive (£14.00 for a large Tia Maria and Amaretto). My 5.30am room service was a few mins early and my 6am taxi (organised by the hotel) was ready and waiting. Well done Duke of Richmond - keep up with those excellent standards.

I occasionally travel to Guernsey on business and have stayed in about 5 different hotels there now over the years. This time I decided on the Duke of Richmond which I booked directly from their website. My primary reasons for that were its excellent location, right in the centre of St Peter Port and my colleagues’ recommendations.
My flight from Gatwick was delayed so I checked-in late in the evening. I was welcomed with a friendly smile and the hassle free check in took no time at all, just what was needed after a long day at the office and travelling.

I went straight to their Cocktail bar to have my dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the experience with the excellent fare (local seafood) being complemented by friendly and efficient service.

My park-side room was of a good size, modern and well-appointed with a large comfortable bed. The bathroom was spotlessly clean with brand new appliances and the water pressure was very good.
Wifi is also available throughout the hotel at a reasonable cost.
A very good choice of menu for your breakfast and the full English went down a treat to start the day. Again, the service was first class.

All in all, from the staff and facilities to the genuine hospitality I was shown at the hotel, I have found a new favourite place to stay when visiting the island in future which offers excellent value for money and cannot be recommended too highly.

My only regret now is that I didn't find this place years ago!

The Duke of Richmond is an excellent base for a visit to Guernsey. The rooms are a good size and are clean, the staff are particularly friendly and the food is well above average. The location is good, too: about a fifteen minute walk up hill from the main street, though quicker if you're fitter.

The downsides? None really. The relationship between the stairs and the lift is somewhat quirky - you go up in the lift, then down some steps to your room.

Thoroughly recommended.

My husband and I have recently returned from Guernsey where we had a delightful Christmas break at the Duke of Richmond Hotel. The memorable experience we had has fully lived up to all good reviews we had read on tripadvisor prior to our trip.
Our elegant newly-refurbished room was just perfect-light and spacious with breathtaking views of St Peter Port and the neighbouring islands. A large comfortable bed with crisp linen; underfloor heating in the modern bathroom which we really appreciated after those long after-lunch walks in the cold. Their food deserves special mention. Everything from their plentiful, varied breakfast, afternoon teas with delicious house-made cakes of a more-ish kind to festive lunches and dinners were among the best we have ever had. The Christmas lunch was a pinnacle of culinary delight! Traditional, yet complimented with Guernsey speciality - local seafood cooked and presented to perfection!
The staff were fantastic - most helpful and efficient. From the moment we arrived we immediately felt welcome and by the end of our stay we knew the names of these friendly and attentive people who made our experience at this hotel unforgettable.
We simply could not fault anything. Top-class service, friendly staff, excellent food, and a great entertaintment programme the hotel was provided over Christmas – everything you could have ever wished for!
What a lovely way it was to spend Christmas, we are definitely rebooking for 2009!

As a Cruising Sailor I became acquainted with Guernsey in the days when it was one of the late Ollie's (Oliver Reed) favourite hang-outs...Following reservation communications directly with Shelley, the most efficient Front Office Manager (great personality and a mine of info' even though she is a "KIWI" joke dear!), we flew from Southapmton and were met at the Airport by our driver whom took us directly to the Hotel. As we were arriving late, Shelley arranged for our luggage to go to our room while we were escorted directly to the Dining Room just in time for a scrumptious imaginatively prepared Sea-Food Feast and accompanying Vino..
Following this we went to our large well appointed room where we experienced a problem with the heating and hotwater. A call to the front desk brought engineers immediately to the scene together with the Gen'Mngr Stephen Purtill and in the blink of an eye we were transported to an even larger room with everything A1. We learned that the Hotel was still undergoing refurbishment and no doubt due to Mr. Purtill's excellent team management there was minimal disruption to the Guest services and we felt a genuine warmth with willing to please attitude from the entire staff...Breakfast Buffet and Menu excellent as were the other Menu's. Both Check-in and out were efficient and we were allowed a later than normal check out; our luggage was placed in a safe room until our transport arrived allowing us more time to shop un-encumbered..Being in the Cruise & Hospitality Industry I am familiar with behind the scene admin and mechanics that enables the watch to tick..Owners better look out or I may steal Stephen & Shelley plus a few!!!
Thanks from us John & Tess for helping to make our stay so enjoyably memorable..
