Having read the reviews about "The Venue", a kind of annex to the Fermain Valley Hotel, and some restaurant experiences, we arrived quite sceptical about the value of the kgb-voucher, a friend had bought. We didn't mind the walk between the main building and The Venue through beautiful gardens and: our room was lovely and quiet looking onto the garden, though the building is - I admit - close to the road. We slept with open windows and woke up to the sound of birds and the wind in a majestic tree.
I must admit, the door to our room could have been a bit more sound proof, but apart from that we couldn't grumble. I cannot tell how much the pub on the other side of the road at the top of the garden might influence the noise level eg on a warm Friday or Saturday evening in summer.
The food in the restaurant was excellent, the service professional. We even had a go at the risotto, which some people apparently didn't like. It was creamy and light as I experienced it in the best Venetian and Tuscany restaurants. Sometimes in Britain risottos are a far too dry lump of sticky rice, not so at the Valley Restaurant @ Fermain Valley. The vegetarian choice in the Tennerfest menue was surprising, creative and tasty (many chefs seem to know no better than the boring grilled haloumi or pasta).
We would book again.

I stayed here for a four weeks on business. The staff were generally really helpful and the service was good. Breakfasts were great and evening meals good quality although the dining room lacked a little atmosphere. The location is great, with a great view over Fermain bay. Having stayed in various room I think the gold rooms with balconies are better than platinum unless you really want a large room. The hotel has a relaxed feel with a some comfortable seating/ chill out areas. The balcony areas outside the restaurant are great in the summer too.
The hotel is situated outside St Peter port so unless you are prepared to drive or get a taxi, your dining options in the area are quite limited.
Wi-fi is available but there are some restrictions placed on websites which includes such sites as facebook. This is apparently to stop people diownloading movies which affects the hotels internet. Not a major problem unless you are a facebook addict....

arrived late in the evening for check in,warmly greeted,we were taken to our balcony room and shown the view and offered a tour of the hotel,on arriving in the bar we had a lovely meal, the local steak was cooked to perfection, the staff are very helpful and polite, breakfast was again fantastic lovelly choice and perfect scambled eggs, the room was quite hot as the weather was unusally mild during our stay but you cant expect the hotel to turn the heating off in the whole hotel!! we slept with the balcony door open and the sea breeze was great and listening to the waves comming into the shore was again great, the free bus the hotel runs is again fab with our driver even taking us to the ocuppation museum, I am already planning my next visit as I dont think you could find a better hotel on the island.

arrived late and tired on a Friday evening - and taken to our room - small, next to a busy road, and opposite a pub playing live music until 12.30 ! after much hassle, eventually moved to a decent room in the main building (at an extra cost) - from there on it was a great stay, superb breakfasts and good value evening meal.
We we aware that the "venue" was not in the main building, but we frequently choose to be in an annex, as they are frequently quieter - the description on the website says "a short stroll through the garden" - gives this impression - but the venue is definately to be avoided at all cost

Our grandson chose this hotel for his wedding reception and the whole of his family stayed in the Venue section of the hotel. The hotel is in a spectacular part of this beautiful island with stunning views. The rooms are spacious and very well furnished -lots of little touches which make such a difference -sherry decanter and Guernsey fudge in each room -good quality bathroom products -fluffy dressing gowns etc.The wedding breakfast was perfect-our compliments to the excellent chef. All meals served in La Brasserie from breakfast to our family dinner on the first evening were superb. The wedding went without hitch-canopies and drinks on the lawn were served as even the weather was warm and sunny-it stayed this way all through our stay.If we return again -as we most certainly will -we will opt to stay in the lower main Hotel section because it is a little more tranquil and has the most pretty views and we would recommened ceiling fans or even air conditioning if possible. The indoor pool looked very inviting and some of our party used it once or twice. My daughter was even tempted to swim in the ocean just off the beautiful cove below the hotel. Can,t be more pleased at our special wedding weekend -thank you all -the wonderful staff at Fermain Valley Hotel

Can't fault this hotel very much. Superb location. Staff are very attentive. Reception took time to show us around the hotel and then show us to our room. However, I had booked a gold room with balcony. On arrival we were told that we didn't have a balcony but had a picture window with a better view and a larger room. A bit of me thought maybe we were being fobbed off but on seeing the room I think we probably did have a better room as the balcony rooms had small door/windows and were side on to the sea view. We however had a full on view of the sea and with windows open, sat by the windowns it was lovely. We ate in the bar one night after having a drink on the lovely terrace. Not a bad meal, lovely home cooked burger. Onto the room. Good size and as I said, lovely view. Sherry was welcome and nice toiletries. The coffee and tea was the most liberal I have ever had in a hotel. Lovely selection of tea and loads of coffee. Bathroom was spotless.I always judge a hotel by the bathroom - mouldy grouting is always a good test but the bathroom was gleaming. Towels were fluffy and large - anther good sign. So, any complaints? Not really. Very, very minor points, we had an annoying clicking sound the in the room which we traced to the fridge. A small price to pay for the convenience of a fridge [and free water!]. Also, there was generator noise at times. Strangely not all the times, but it was quite noisey when it came on. Think it was because we were near restaurant. We have stayed in a number of hotels in Guernsey but this is by far the best. A lovely break and well commended hotel.Try it, sure you won't be disappointed.

We stayed at the Fermain Valley Hotel in Guernsey for 3 nights from 31st August.

We stayed in a Gold Room on a Bed and Breakfast Tariff and had one evening meal at the hotel.

We had a good experience at the hotel; staff are helpful and friendly, the breakfast is excellent, the rooms are well appointed, though smaller than they appear on the illustrations and the evening meals are worth a try.

The hotel is currently upgrading the formal restuarant, (due to be completed in September), but the Brasserie is good too, though the bar area is a little cramped and informal.

What a wonderful hotel. The warm welcome we received from Gavin set the scene for 6 fabulous nights at this spotlessly clean hotel. Staff were so attentive but not intrusive, very professional but friendly too. The lounge areas and bedrooms are beautifully furnished. Our bed was so comfy with lovely soft white linen sheets and large fluffy towels in the bathroom. Both were changed very regularly.

There was fresh fruit and sherry in our room each day and fudge on arrival. The tea and coffee making facilities were excellent with a very good choice of beverages and even ground coffee and a cafetiere in the room.

Although we didn't use it, there is a cinema for the use of guests. We did however use the two computers in a room off the library.

The hotel terrace overlooked Fermain Valley and down to the sea and was well sheltered from the breeze. I used the lovely swimming pool which looked onto the terrace.

Breakfasts were excellent and I had the best homemade muesli ever. I think it was probably Bircher muesli. Best of all were the evening meals which we would describe as exceptional. We ate in the hotel 4 out of 6 nights and we couldn't fault anything at all.

Stayed here recently for our Honeymoon. Friendly Staff and well presented hotel. Lovely View down to the bay and it is possible to see the lights of Jersey at night.
Rooms clean and well presented, but were a bit hot and stuffy.
We ate in the resturant one night: Set menu for £25 head. this was nice but nothing special and we ate eleswhere for the rest of our stay.
Only other comment is that the hotel is under flight path to the airport: we were surprised how many planes came over. This was not a problem at night.

We stayed in the gold garden view rooms in The Venue which is a short walk from the actual hotel, however it is an easy walk through beautiful gardens. The rooms had fabulous views and were extremely comfortable with seating areas. The fudge and sherry were a nice touch. The water pressure ensured an excellent shower and all amenties were provided. Tea and coffee in abundance and water was provided in the fridge. We ate in the brasserie as a meal was included in our package and we found the menu to be excelent value and can recommend the house wines which were extremely reasonable at £15.50 per bottle. We thought the meal was as good if not better than Le Nautique where we ate on our first night. The views from the terrace are lovely and there is plenty of outside seating. The pool was lovely and although i didn't use, it was being enjoyed by others. The staff were extremely helpful and the hotel provides a shuttle service to town and the airport which is a real bonus and great as we were a party of 6, so would have needed 2 cabs. Would recommend this hotel to any age group and will certainly be back.

We left home at 1.30 am in order to catch the 6.30 ferry from Weymouth. We arrived very tired and had just missed breakfast. The kind lady in reception took us in hand and led us out to a table on the sunny terrace. Here she handed us over to a lovely young man who arranged for the restaurant staff to give us coffee and sandwiches, which arrived very quickly and beautifully served. This set the high standard of quality service that we received throughout our 5 day stay in this lovely hotel. All the staff went out of their way to assist us in every way and always with a smile. Our room was nicely furnished and clean. I must also mention the excellent tea and coffee making facility in our room (lovely biscuits), it was so nice to come back in the afternoon after a day out, relax and have a nice cup of tea in our room on the balcony looking out over the lovely view of the valley and the sea. The breakfast was very good with a cold buffet of cereals, fruit etc, and a cooked breakfast taken to your order. You may have to wait a few minutes for the cooked breakfast, which you order to your choice, but it is well worth the small wait as it is all cooked freshly to your order. We were always out in the evening so unfortunately we did not try the restaurant for dinner. I would like to say thank you to all the staff for making our stay a very happy one and if we ever come back to Guernsey I would definitely stay at this lovely hotel.

We stayed for four nights to celebrate my parents ruby wedding. The rooms were nice, both with a balcony overlooking the valley. Some nice touches in room such as sherry (it had been watered down however) and fudge. Good level of house keeping and turn down service. My parents used the cinema in the hotel and said it was very good. Breakfast on first 3 days was excellent, nice cold buffet and good cooked breakfast. The Sunday they were obviously a bit busier and the quality of the cooked breakfast was very poor, eggs like rubber, overcooked black pudding etc.

The major let down of the hotel was the evening meal we had on the Saturday night. Both service and food was so below the standard of everything else in this hotel. The service staff were pleasant but pretty clueless. The food was obviously cooked by a chef with a more imagination than talent. My starter of Celeriac remoulade was presented well but tasteless. No seasonaing in it, a clearly bought-in curry sauce sourrounding it too. My main course of Duck was similar, bought in jus, served with a soggy pile of crisps (or sarladaise potatoes as they call them). My parents 'roast rack of suckling pig' was a small pork chop (which the waiter thought was beef).

The hotel is lovely but do yourself a favour and go elsewhere to eat.

Great hotel, really good location, friendly and very helpful, highly recommended, 5 star treatment. We travelled with a baby and a six year old and although hotel guests were more mature couples the hotel were very accommodating, a perfect hotel for a couples retreat in search of peace and quiet, could not fault the food although my daughters sausage was cold at breakfast and was sent back however a replacement came within a few minutes. Can't wait to return next year..... X

We ahd two adjacent rooms overlooking the bay. We took our nine month old baby grandson with us. The hotel could not have been more accomodating and helpful. Chef every night cooked for him exactly what w asked for - never mind what was on the menu!!!
I also accidentally left behind a brand new ipod. I hadn't even remembered that I had not got it when the hotel emailed me to say it had been left behind and they would post it on! What honesty by the hotel staff. We shall be back!!!

This hotel is in a prime location 10 minutes drive from St Peter Port at the top of a beautiful, lush valley with views either across the valley and sea or of the lovely gardens. If staying in the Venue ask for a room at the back as the front overlooks the road.
We had a 3 night break flying with Blue Islands from Southampton and stayed in a Platinum room with sea views and the only way it could have been better would have been to have had a balcony. Next time we will make sure we book this. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated, relaxing and altogether delightful. We have never had such a good night's sleep at any hotel. The beds are very comfy and the pillows, which often let a hotel down were soft as a feather. Linen was changed daily, which I felt was unnecessary but very pleasant even so.
The food was top quality, It is the only Michelin starred restaurant on Guernsey and although we had planned to eat elsewhere on our 2nd and 3rd nights we didn't bother as it was not only delicious food but I thought it reasonable for this quality. £49.50 for 2 people for three courses. They also made sure that it was served just the way you wanted it.
All the staff (including the Reservation team) were very helpful, attentive, well trained and went out of their way to help. The hotel minibus was available as often as we needed (even after the service had finished at 4pm) and the drivers were courteous and pleasant.
We will definitely return, maybe on a 5 night break this time with 2 days in their hotel on Alderney and this time we will definitely walk down the steep valley path to the beach and cafe.
I wouldn't recommend it for families with small children but it is perfect for romantic breaks or for couples looking for total relaxation and peace. Overall a 5 star experience.

We stayed at the fermain valley hotel for a 5 night break in july 2011. Overall a very nice experiance. The staff were friendly, facilities good and rooms and gardens kept up together very well.

Liked the free wifi, in house cinema (which is better than the main cinema!) and the gardens were great.

Fantastic location for this hotel, looking down the wooded valley to the sea and 5 mins drive from St Peter Port. We had admired it on previous visits so were delighted to have the chance to stay there this time. We booked a gold room in The Venue but were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a gold room in the main hotel, which had a balcony overlooking the bay, and it was so quiet and peaceful with no traffic noise. It is on the flightpath for the airport but hey, there aren't than many planes and they are pretty small anyway so it was not a problem. We even got towelling bath robes and slippers to go to and from the pool, or whatever. The room was immaculate and sherry, fudge and fruit awaited on arrival. The fridge was topped up with water every day (and so was the sherry decanter!)

If your room is in The Venue (a separate building fronting the main road out of St Peter Port) suggest you ask for a room on the garden side, which would be quieter, but I would think all rooms are a good standard.

Restaurant service for breakfast and dinner was second to none and the food is really good. All the staff were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for you.

We would definitely stay again.

Just returned from a short break at the Fermain Valley Hotel. I am well known for being fussy and am quite often amazed at the lack of standards in some hotels!

This Hotel was one of the best I have ever stayed in!

My husband and I along with a couple of friends, booked a short 2 night break, including flights from Southampton, staying in a Platinum room (Rooms 14 and 12) with one dinner for £244 each! Our room was lovely, very large, and tastefully furnished. Good views towards the sea. Although this was one of the most expensive rooms, I have no doubt that the slightly cheaper gold and silver rooms are of equal quality.

The indoor pool and sauna was a bonus as were the comfortable lounges and library. We also made use of the private cinema on both evenings where we had a good choice of films along with drinks from the bar and even popcorn!

Breakfasts were good, lots of choice and our dinner in the restaurant was excellent.

The staff deserve a special mention as they were all, without exception, fantastic! They were all so genuinely helpful - nothing was too much trouble. This sort of service makes all the difference.

We plan to return again in the Spring!

The hotel is very clean, modern decor, rooms were fine. very 4 star standard. What lifted the hotel was the service, friendly and extremely efficient. The staff are obviously chosen well, trained well and managed well.

On waiting in the lobby to leave the hotel at 7.00am I was offered a coffee while I waited. The coffee was freshly brewed and very much appreciated. I will be spending a considerable amount of time in Guernsey over the next 6 months and the Fermaine Valley hotel will be my preferred destination.
