My wife and I visited Guernsey again at the end of April 30 years after our previous visit. We were recommended to the Fermain Valley Hotel and were not disappointed. It is a lovely place in a wonderful setting, has good restaurants and food and, most importantly, excellent and very helpful staff. The Rock Garden, a tapas bar/restaurant within the hotel is especially good, ably lead by Graham and his team, who helped make the experience very momorable.

This holiday was a quick break. What an excellant choice couldnt have wished for better. We flew from Southampton & were meet at airport, taken to hotel & our room was quiet ready but we sat on terrace & coffee was bought out to us. Room was a Gold room No 18, yes it was warm but just turned off radiator & we were fine, lovely bright room with fresh fruit & complimentary sherry & choclates that were replaced everyday. We dont do the prepacked milk but fresh was bought up when room was done of a day. We had thought of hiring a car to see the island but the Gentleman on Reception said there was an excellant bus service & for a £1 could go all around the island or just a few stops into town, it was the best advise we could have had as roads are quiet narrow, we saw more by bus. Went into St Peter's Port & some great shops & bars very reasonable. Most evenings we ate in the Resterant & the menu was different each night & lunchtime..For £25.00 we had a three course meal every night. even when we said to the waitress my husband was diabetic the chef made him a special dessert, thats is service.
Rooms were clean & staff friendly.. Definatly going back there, still loads more to see & so peaceful & relaxing..

Platinum room 15 with 6ft double bed with 4ft 6inch duvet leads to problems. Hotel could not resolve so gave us a single duvet each on a 6ft double bed that meant disturbed nights Bathroom lights poor for shaving. Very large bath / shower room, no seat.
The TV was poor, plenty of bright orange people on the screen. Unfortunate position for bath inlet, its so in the way. Tired and grubby armchairs. The room 15 should have lace curtains as completely on show to anybody on terrace of hotel. Room temperature was excessive, what a waste of energy? Resteraunt staff had problems with Englisg language requests. Food was excellent, resteraunt service adequate. Excellent lounge areas. Excellent private cinema. Room care was excellent. For the platinum prices paid we expected better.

Uncharacteristicly we took a five day break, and re-visited Guernsey after 30 years absence. It had not changed a lot.
We booked at this hotel, based on Trip reviews, and a friend`s recommendation. I spoke to the receptionist who was extremely helpful, as indeed were all the staff. When I mentioned our interest in walking, I was told of a new walking break on offer, and we settled for this. The only comment I would make...and I mentioned it in review on leaving, was that we were promised a booklet with island walks, but all that we were given was a standard tourist map with the walking paths indicated. This was no use. Luckily there was a Cicerone guide in the Hotel library, and we used that for the duration. This was invaluable as it gave in depth details of the routes, and we got so much more out of the stay, as a result. In the 5 days we walked from St Peter Port to Rocquaine Bay. I hope that the hotel will make such a book available to those who go espeially to walk. The coatal paths were empty and beautiful.
The bus system is excellent, and so we could link in our walks using this cheap form of transport, as we had no intention to hire a car. It costs £1 to take the local bus around the island..brilliant.
Our booking, made through the hotel, including flights, was cheaper (re flights from Bristol) than had we booked the flights on our own. Someone was there to meet us, and to take us back to the airport.
We booked at the end of Easter, so had no choice with the rooms, but room 15, one of the top rated rooms was excellent, roomy, light, beautiful bathrooms, very spacious and comfortable bed. It had no balcony,, being in the original house, and I wonder if one of the rooms in the annexe, with balcony, would be a better choice in summer, as that side of the hotel catches the late afternoon/evening sun. The hotel is on the flight path, but of no consequence.
The food was excellent, and good value. Breakfasts offered all one could wish for, whatever one`s taste. The lounges were quiet and restful, and lovely small library. There is a cinema also, but we were too busy walking and eating to have time for that!
The Hotel has a Rock Garden venue, which I suppose may be described as a night club, , loud, tapas style food. It is very popular with the youngsters, especially at week ends, and for the purpose of transporting clients, the hotel runs a mini bas back and forward to St Peter Port from 6pm, and all residents may use the service too. We did not see this fact publicised, and we did not find out about it for a day or two. We went to St PP twice to eat at other restaurants, and were able to catch the 10pm mini bus back, a big plus. We had 2 meals in the dining room, and one in the Rock Garden, though this was not to our taste...a refection of our age!
All in all a super short break, relaxing,welcoming, professional hotel with efficient and friendly staff. We are pleased we chose this hotel.

Stayed here for 3 nights on a KGB deal,couldn't fault a thing.Everything you could need was there,even a decanter of sherry which was refilled each day! Top quality toiletries,slippers,bathrobes etc.Great view from the rooms with the balcony overlooking Fermain Bay.The rooms located in the Venue are a hill walk through the gardens so not for the disabled.
Breakfast was good with an extensive choice of cereals juices,breads,ham and cheese,as well as cooked breakfast. A great short break was thoroughly enjoyed.Would highly recommend this hotel if you like to impress.

We only stayed for two nights but from the moment we arrived we were very well looked after. The manager was informative and helpful and made sure we knew where all the hotels facilities were. We had a balcony room with a nice sea view. The hotel is set in beautiful gardens and the birdsong was only very occasionally interrupted by the next arrival into Guernsey airport. A large decanter of sherry and bottles of water in the fridge were a nice touch and very welcome after our journey. We ate in the hotel restaurant and thought the food was excellent and good value too. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel and would happily stay again myself.

There are some hotels where you feel just at home, this is one of them. On arrival I was shown around by the manager which really helps and should be a standard, makes you feel welcomed and valued. The room was good sized with a balcony which gives a great view of the outdoors. It's on a hill so you can imagine the view. Free internet service and complimentary drinks in the room. Dinner was very tasty and I paid £17 for a 3 course meal, which I beleive is not bad by any standard. Breakfast has a good variety of things to choose from so it's not a let down. It's a shame I only stayed for 1 night but will definitely stay here again and next time try out their cinema and swimming pool which I am sure will meet all my expectations. I wish they had a gym too. I will whole hearted recommend it to anyone visiting Guernsey.

We stayed at this Hotel for the 1st time having been to Guernsey several times staying in smaller hotels. The Hotel itself is excellent very clean and the reception staff and maid service excellent, however the waiting staff were poor qaulity I waited 30 minutes just for a pot of tea and toast on the first day I asked the staff 3 times where it was only to be spoken to like an idiot from the blonde haired greasy looking head waitress, 15 minutes wait on the next two days where we decided to forgo the cooked breakfast as it was too much hastle to get it. We also witnessed the head waitress being rude to another lady who asked for porridge it was embaressing for the lady. The Head waitress was only polite to the young single men with whom she could not stop flirting with. The evening waitresses were very good a girl with long blonde hair and a girl with short dark hair they were excellent!

..visited the island for the first time, my boyfriend booked the hotel since he knows the islands very well being from Jersey himself. I must mention the beautiful well kept immaculate gardens, and the stunning views of the sea and garden from our room. The room itself was very clean, not very big, however with a lovely cottage style decor... Nice bathroom, we spent a while enjoying the sunshine relaxing on the sun loungers on the terrace..or having a lazy lunch on the terrace overlooking gardens..there is also an indoor pool ..which I didn't try...probably only thing I wouldn't want to rate. Also on the morning when we were leaving, there wasn't anyone around to check out...suppose it was a little early at 5 am if I remember correctly. We were the over for the music festival weekend, it was impossible to catch a cab back afterwards...so we walked back...while star gazing ...never had seen so many stars so clearly ! Truly amazing weekend

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel but this time I brought my family with me. We were made to feel welcome upon arrival, and stayed in two rooms, which were secured via a door. This is an excellent option for families with older children who do not want to have the children in the room with them, but want the peace of mind of knowing that they are totally safe and secure. The food was lovely, and they had a fantastic bar menu for the kids - meaning that they could have a tea that they liked even though the main restaurant did not open until later in the evening. The pool is lovely, and perfect for the children after a long walk around the island. There is also a lounge with a toy box (I am sorry that we may have left a few toys scattered around the place). The best feature though was the cinema - my boys were able to watch a DVD in a cinema environment, free of charge, with popcorn provided. Nothing was too much trouble. Although it is a bit further out of town, the views and the location are sublime. Would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is second to none. The rooms are very excellent , the food exceptional and very good value.

Above all the staff are superb,friendly, attentive without being in any way intrusive, a mark of real service.

Lovely hotel.I was shown around by manager on my arrival. Lovely comfortable lounges. An internet room. Cosy bar and a lively bar called the Rock Garden. I had a very lovely room with balcony and sea view. Very comfortable bed.There is a lovely walk through woodland to Fermain Bay where you can join the coast path. Not far from St Peter Port and amenities. There is a complimentary bus service to town and airport. Very obliging porter and all staff were great. Unforgettable stay.

Can't praise the hotel and staff enough. Had a massive room with sea view, extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food was probably some of the best I've had at an hotel restaurant. My wife doesn't eat meat and she had plenty of choice. All the staff were extremely polite, professional and friendly. So good, hope to return again soon.

Stayed for two nights in December. Excellent service by all staff from the front desk to those who served breakfast. Wonderful facilities both in the room and in the public areas. I would highly recommend this hotel for those looking for a short break and are looking for that personal attention.

We've just had the most marvellous family Christmas at this hotel; looked after by the most friendly, efficient and cheerful staff (even though they were working through Christmas), who made us feel that anything that added to our comfort was no trouble. Our room was enormous, very clean and comfortable, without a balcony, but with a big window and a beautiful sea and sunrise view. The lounges, which ran through two rooms (one with log fire, very Christmassy) and on to a library and a tiny, secluded, computer room, and the bar and terrace areas were all very comfortable and you could find a quieter or noisier spot, to your taste, with free wifi everywhere. (Limited number of standard UK sockets in bedroom for recharging gadgets and not in convenient positions, but it's only a tiny gripe!)
The pool was clean and warm with large windows onto the decking area; and the cinema (in the Venue building, uphill through lovely gardens) was brilliant; big comfy armchairs, room service would bring drinks and snacks and a bucket of hot popcorn was provided. We took our favourite Christmas DVDs, which we booked times to watch, and also watched the Doctor Who Christmas special on TV in the cinema.
There's a lovely stroll, through the well kept and interestingly planted gardens, to the beach and leading on to the coast path which takes you to St Peter Port in one direction (about 3 miles). The trek back uphill makes you feel you've worked off the superb breakfasts a little bit.
Dinners were beautifully presented on the plate in the modern Masterchef way and I felt very picky to be adding some salt and pepper here and there. And I ate absolutely delicious desserts though I don't usually go for the sweet course. (Orange ice cream with chocolate tart for Christmas dinner dessert - gorgeous), though you could have Christmas pudding instead if you wanted it! Reported good by other diners. The Rock Garden cocktail bar was open Christmas Eve and had a good fun atmosphere with a great variety of cocktails made with style.
The hotel ran a minibus and it could be booked to take you into town, but very sensibly, they gave airport/ferry trips the priority. There are planes going overhead, but compared to the jets taking off from London City Airport in the mornings in our usual week, the sound of the turboprops was almost humming and soothing.
The staff, the facilities and the hotel's position, (with well designed decking levels and gardens), making the best of the valley views to the sea, deserve to be thoroughly praised but I'm now wondering if I should have let on so much on TripAdvisor because we will be going back and we don't want to find you all there in our favourite spots!

I only ate at the fermaine but wow terrific, superb service superb food and a really friendly but professional atmosphere definately five star.

Guernsey is not a big island, but this hotel gives a feeling of seclusion. Situated in a pretty valley its a pleasant stroll down the road through woods to a small stony beach. Most people will drive to the hotel - it would be quite a walk from St Peter Port. All the rooms to the front of the hotel have views down the valley towards the sea in the middle distance. I have used this hotel many times on business. There is free wifi. Food is OK in the dining room but not fabulous. There is a new bar opened up - the "Rock Garden" which might appeal to the younger guests but feels incongruous. The old bar is still there and conservative. As elsewhere in the CI, staff are mostly Eastern European - but very friendly and efficient. Public areas in the hotel are to a good standard. We often use the business meeting room "The Venue" which is good for private meetings and dining.

Exellent hotel with very good staff,clean and well organised,very good food with wonderful dinners, the whole hotel runs like clockwork with staff being very helpful.
My only disappointment was that it is in the flight path of Guernsey Airport,planes starting from around 6 o`clock in the morning!!!

I took my wife for an anniversary surprise stay to Fermain - it was wonderful!
We had a sea view room looking down the valley and literally the sun shone for us - lovely hotel facilities and walks. Take a walk around the gardens....
We live in Guernsey and this is our favourite hotel - haven't stayed overnight locally up till now, and certainly this is worth repeating.

I've stayed a couple of times at the Fermain Valley in the last three months. The view is wonderful and the beds very comfortable. The staff are pleasant. It's just slightly awkward. The rooms are too hot (I had to sleep with balcony door open) and I couldn't find the thermostat (a colleague says there's one in the floor). There aren't enough plugs to charge phones/ipads etc. I don't like showers which mean you have to climb into a bath. It's not possible to access the BBC website (they suggested it was something to do with having to restrict access to websites to comply with Guernsey regulations). The planes come into the airport rather noisily just overhead. The signposting is a bit odd (so finding The Venue from within the main building can be a bit tricky). I just wonder whether there isn't enough good quality competition?

Having read the reviews about "The Venue", a kind of annex to the Fermain Valley Hotel, and some restaurant experiences, we arrived quite sceptical about the value of the kgb-voucher, a friend had bought. We didn't mind the walk between the main building and The Venue through beautiful gardens and: our room was lovely and quiet looking onto the garden, though the building is - I admit - close to the road. We slept with open windows and woke up to the sound of birds and the wind in a majestic tree.
I must admit, the door to our room could have been a bit more sound proof, but apart from that we couldn't grumble. I cannot tell how much the pub on the other side of the road at the top of the garden might influence the noise level eg on a warm Friday or Saturday evening in summer.
The food in the restaurant was excellent, the service professional. We even had a go at the risotto, which some people apparently didn't like. It was creamy and light as I experienced it in the best Venetian and Tuscany restaurants. Sometimes in Britain risottos are a far too dry lump of sticky rice, not so at the Valley Restaurant @ Fermain Valley. The vegetarian choice in the Tennerfest menue was surprising, creative and tasty (many chefs seem to know no better than the boring grilled haloumi or pasta).
We would book again.

I stayed here for a four weeks on business. The staff were generally really helpful and the service was good. Breakfasts were great and evening meals good quality although the dining room lacked a little atmosphere. The location is great, with a great view over Fermain bay. Having stayed in various room I think the gold rooms with balconies are better than platinum unless you really want a large room. The hotel has a relaxed feel with a some comfortable seating/ chill out areas. The balcony areas outside the restaurant are great in the summer too.
The hotel is situated outside St Peter port so unless you are prepared to drive or get a taxi, your dining options in the area are quite limited.
Wi-fi is available but there are some restrictions placed on websites which includes such sites as facebook. This is apparently to stop people diownloading movies which affects the hotels internet. Not a major problem unless you are a facebook addict....

arrived late in the evening for check in,warmly greeted,we were taken to our balcony room and shown the view and offered a tour of the hotel,on arriving in the bar we had a lovely meal, the local steak was cooked to perfection, the staff are very helpful and polite, breakfast was again fantastic lovelly choice and perfect scambled eggs, the room was quite hot as the weather was unusally mild during our stay but you cant expect the hotel to turn the heating off in the whole hotel!! we slept with the balcony door open and the sea breeze was great and listening to the waves comming into the shore was again great, the free bus the hotel runs is again fab with our driver even taking us to the ocuppation museum, I am already planning my next visit as I dont think you could find a better hotel on the island.

arrived late and tired on a Friday evening - and taken to our room - small, next to a busy road, and opposite a pub playing live music until 12.30 ! after much hassle, eventually moved to a decent room in the main building (at an extra cost) - from there on it was a great stay, superb breakfasts and good value evening meal.
We we aware that the "venue" was not in the main building, but we frequently choose to be in an annex, as they are frequently quieter - the description on the website says "a short stroll through the garden" - gives this impression - but the venue is definately to be avoided at all cost

Our grandson chose this hotel for his wedding reception and the whole of his family stayed in the Venue section of the hotel.The hotel is in a spectacular part of this beautiful island with stunning views.The rooms are spacious and very well furnished -lots of little touches which make such a difference -sherry decanter and Guernsey fudge in each room -good quality bathroom products -fluffy dressing gowns etc.The wedding breakfast was perfect-our compliments to the excellent chef.All meals served in La Brasserie from breakfast to our family dinner on the first evening were superb.The wedding went without hitch-canopies and drinks on the lawn were served as even the weather was warm and sunny-it stayed this way all through our stay.If we return again -as we most certainly will -we will opt to stay in the lower main Hotel section because it is a little more tranquil and has the most pretty views and we would recommened ceiling fans or even air conditioning if possible.The indoor pool looked very inviting and some of our party used it once or twice.My daughter was even tempted to swim in the ocean just off the beautiful cove below the hotel.Can,t be more pleased at our special wedding weekend -thank you all -the wonderful staff at Fermain Valley Hotel
