Project Expansion!

After a fantastic response to Eastbourne’s Slow the Flow Water Butt Project, we have listened to your calls to expand the scheme to include more addresses!

The initiative has been expanded to include additional roads, meaning you may now be eligible to receive a free leaky water butt. This scheme may expand again in the future, so sign up to make sure you find out if you become eligible!

If you've already signed up, keep an eye on your email inbox because we'll be sending out notifications about the expanded eligibility. Don't miss the chance to secure your free leaky rainwater tank and do your part for your local community and the planet

But Why Eastbourne?

Eastbourne faces a unique set of circumstances and problems which must be addressed by multiple methods.

Surrounding areas of Eastbourne were previously used for grazing, with water flow managed through channels. However, houses and roads have been built and now need protection.

Impermeable rock prevents water soaking into the ground, causing run off which is difficult to control. Urban areas face similar issues due to tarmac and concrete which don’t let water seep into the ground.  Instead drains can become overwhelmed by heavy rainfall leading to surface water flooding.

This is made worse by Eastbourne’s Victorian sewerage system which was not designed for the current population or changes in climate and weather which has led to more extreme rainfall events.
