Nathan Dunbar from Polegate, who is Head of Events for the Polegate Scarecrows Community Fund, concluded the Polegate Scarecrow Festival 2022 last month and scarecrows were displayed around the town until Saturday 23rd July. The annual Scarecrow Festival was yet again raising funds for charity and over £1,000 has been split equally between SERV Sussex and St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

Polegate Scarecrows Community Fund said, “Thank you very much to all Scarecrow Creators for continuing to support us especially this year as Polegate Scarecrow Festival continues raising much needed vital funds for charities for 5 consecutive years and has now raised over £5,000 for local causes.

Nathan alongside the Mayor of Polegate Town Council, Cllr Douglas Murray presented 4 awards to the best scarecrows found in Polegate following outstanding efforts in their entry and an additional ‘Highly Commended’ award was given to another resident.

Cllr Murray said, “As Mayor of Polegate I was privileged to be involved with the Award Presentations and I was honoured to award the Best in Show for Polegate's Scarecrow Competition 2022 to Debbie whose scarecrow was judged to be the winner this year. Astonishingly devised and constructed from several items purchased in local charity stores, donated by others or found in the garden including a vintage scooter, handmade union jack flag and various wigs. I even spotted string platted into hair, this is a superb example of the resourcefulness of the residents in our town.”
