Both stores, which are owned and run by husband and wife team Rod and Maria Lambert, are active supporters of Chestnut Tree children’s hospice, offering on the day support at every Chestnut Sussex 100, and hosting the increasingly popular Santa Bike ride in December, to help raise vital funds for the charity.

“The hospice is much needed and does such good work that we are very proud to support them,” said Maria. “Chestnut Tree is caring for children with life-shortening conditions and their families right here in Sussex and as a local business it is important to us that we support local charities.”

The Chestnut Sussex 100 cycle ride takes place on Sunday 25 September, starting at Plumpton Racecourse in Lewes with a choice of 32km, 66km or 103km routes through the beautiful East Sussex countryside. The ride is open to anyone over the age of 18 (over 16's can participate if accompanied by an adult), with everyone from experienced cyclists to novices invited to challenge themselves to raise money for Sussex’s children’s hospice.

“Whether you are relatively new to the pedals or looking to improve your technique we can help,” says Rod. “Our preparation rides will help to get people out on their bikes and working up to cycling longer distances. We are also offering maintenance sessions, covering basics such as checking and adjusting brakes and gears, cleaning and lubrication and fixing a puncture.”

“If you need any additional kit, we can help there too. From cycling shorts to a new bike, we are offering discounts to all participants in the ride, as well as our expertise and advice in choosing the right kit. Anybody looking to purchase a new bike for the event will earn themselves free accessories and a generous donation from us towards the work of Chestnut Tree.”

Discounts are being offered from both Mr Cycles in Clinton Place, Seaford, and Shoreham Giant on Little High Street, Shoreham with training rides and maintenance sessions being offered at Giant Shoreham. Anybody registered for the event and interested in taking up these offers can contact the stores directly on 01323 893130 or 01273 463579.
