140 miles. 7 days. 3 local causes. One determined Eastbourne man.
Scott Temple is not one to sit still. A familiar voice at Radio DGH and the heart behind the Eastbourne Free Walkers group, he is lacing up for a challenge that is personal, powerful, and packed with purpose.
From 22 to 28 September, Scott will hike 140 miles from Durdle Door in Dorset all the way to the Tower of London. His goal? To raise money—and awareness—for three causes close to his heart:
Radio DGH – Eastbourne’s own hospital radio station, where Scott volunteers on air and behind the scenes.
The Chaseley Trust – A vital local charity supporting adults with complex disabilities. Scott worked there for nearly five years.
Brain Tumour Research – A national charity pushing for better funding and faster progress. This one is deeply personal: Scott is a brain tumour survivor.
“I was lucky. My tumour was removed, but the after-effects have been brutal—neck, back, mobility issues. And now, I’ve been diagnosed with Articular Sclerosis in my foot. It makes walking painful, but I’m still doing it.”
This hike is not just about endurance. It is about resilience, visibility, and the belief that local effort can create national change.
Scott set up the Eastbourne Free Walkers group to support his mental health. Now it is become a platform to help others reconnect, move more, and feel seen.
🧠 Why Brain Tumour Research Matters
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer. Yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research goes towards this devastating disease.
Scott is determined to help change that. His JustGiving page shares more of his story and a chance for anyone to donate.
📍 Follow the Route
From sea cliffs to city streets, the full route and walking updates will be posted in the Eastbourne Free Walkers group, open to anyone who wants to follow along, offer encouragement, or walk a leg in solidarity.
