Only 2 years after being formed Eastbourne Handball club has a young player in the U16 England team.  In a real example of the legacy, the club formed after the success of the sport at the London Olympics, Caleb Mathews (16) has gone from beginner to the National team, and potential future Olympic representation.

Caleb was picked after national trials in Nottingham.  He will travel with England on a 2 week training camp and competition experience in one of the strongholds of the sport; Denmark. After that its back home for a few days before representing his country in a 4 nations tournament, the Viking Cup, against Scotland, Iceland and Faroe Islands.

Caleb, a Y11 pupil at Cavendish said “I am really happy to be representing my club and Eastbourne by being picked for England.  It’s a tremendous opportunity to go and train, learn and play in Denmark.”

Handball is a developing sport in the UK and Caleb is seeking sponsors or support to help him on this journey.  If any local businesses or groups are able to provide help him develop his talent please contact him via twitter @CM6Handball.  Others willing to help him raise the funds essential to support national level training are asked for contribution big or small via “inspire a star”  http://inspireastar.org/sponsor-a-star/art/119/caleb-england-handball.htm

Eastbourne Handball Club has both Adult and Junior sections.  We are also delivering the sport in a number of schools across Eastbourne.  The sport is fast, fun and easy to pick up. New players of all abilities are welcome to come along and give handball a go.  Further details at www.eastbournehandball.co.uk and on Twitter @Eastbourne_HC
