Eastbourne Tree Lovers - We Need You!
8th August 2020

Eastbourne ECO Action Network is working to make our town carbon neutral by 2030. We have plans to turn Eastbourne green by at least doubling current tree cover and are kick-starting this with a new crowdfunding campaign.

We are aiming to plant thousands of trees on public land across the town, and to make it easy for homeowners and businesses to plant them on their own land. Trees not only capture carbon emissions but enrich the environment for us all to enjoy.

Throughout August we will be raising money to fund our tree planting programme. We ask the public to help by donating to our crowdfunding campaign before the end of the month. East Sussex County Council are offering match-funding to support the project and will double the sum we raised. Ex. if we can raise £2500 they could double that up to £5000 - enough to plant an extra acre of woodland.

Councillor Jonathan Dow, Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Sustainability says:

“The more we mobilise as a community to address the challenges posed by climate change, the more we will achieve in tackling the greatest ever threat to planet earth. I’d like to thank the ECO Action Network for launching this funding initiative and encourage everyone to make a contribution, however big or small. If you can make a donation you can consider it an investment in the wellbeing of future generations of your own family – what can be better than that?”

The money raised through the campaign will pay for:

  • buying and growing trees, seeds and saplings
  • setting up tree nurseries
  • tree planting, watering and maintenance
  • marketing campaign targeting planting on privately-owned land.
