Eastbourne author Gabrielle (Gabi) Yetter has released her new poetry collection, Dancing With The Moon. This is Yetter’s second poetry book, following And The Clouds Parted (2022), which was written during the Covid lockdown.

All profits from the new collection will be donated to Eastbourne Foodbank for the next 60 days, where Yetter has volunteered since 2022. The book is available on Amazon in paperback, e-book and audiobook.

Dancing With The Moon features poems rooted in personal experiences, quiet observations, and real-life encounters. They explore hope, positivity, and the beauty found in everyday experiences. Highlights from the collection include

  • “Look Back” offers a fresh view of what it truly means to succeed, reminding readers that “the victory isn’t in being first, it’s in waiting for the one who walks behind.”
  • “What If” examines the unseen stories happening around us and the misconceptions we often hold (“What if you knew that the man meandering slowly along the road holding up traffic and getting in your way had just heard from his doctor that his test came back positive.”)

  • Remember Me” is a tribute to Yetter’s late mother—and to all elderly or overlooked members of society (“Don’t remember me as the fragile old lady wrapped in a shawl in front of the fire. Think of me as a giddy young girl stepping off a plane to explore a faraway jungle with a backpack filled with Mars bars and dreams”)

  • Awakening” shines a light on the significance of small gestures that can change someone’s day (“She wanted to change the world, shed tears every night watching the news, nightmares of dark shadows and desperate lives haunting her. Then she arose the next morning, walked to the foodbank, served meals to a young family who clasped her hand and said, ‘You changed our world.”)

Every poem in the collection grew from an emotion, encounter, or real-life moment. Yetter’s work at the Eastbourne Foodbank also fuelled her desire to give something back to the community.

“My poems are designed to feed the soul,” said Yetter. “So it felt right to help feed disadvantaged people in our town. Giving the proceeds to Eastbourne Foodbank felt like the most natural extension of what this book is about: kindness and community.”

Reader comments include: “This is poetry in which empathy rolls up its sleeves”, and “Each piece reveals a profound understanding of what it means to be human and to feel, to awaken, to remember, and to live”.

Jess Holliday, CEO of Eastbourne Foodbank, said, "We are deeply grateful for Gabi's generous gift of this book of poems, which will change people's lives in Eastbourne. Food for the soul and food for the body."
