Sunday the 14th of July saw the first, of what is going to be an annual event called the Dog Bowl. The event is an invite event organised by the Committee from the Hellingly HoundDogs and sees teams from across the South take part at U11’s and U14’s in Flag American Football.
The HoundDogs hosted teams from Brighton and Hove Scorpions (U14’s), Kent Exiles, Kent Phoenix and South Coast Spitfires (U11’s) compete in a round robin with added points for winning, scoring and losing by as smallest margin as possible.
The day started with the draw which sorted out the running order and games got under way at 10:30.
South Coast Spitfires won the U11’s Bowl after going the whole competition without losing a single game with their dominant game play. The Kent Exiles picking up the U14’s title after a tight battle for the Bowl with Kent Phoenix which only came down to the fact that the Exiles conceded less points in their defeat.
HoundDogs Chairman added “Today was a great day for our club and all the other clubs that traveled. We saw some fine football action on the pitch and real sportsmanship off the field. This for me is what Youth Football is about. We saw the Scorpions play their first ever game of Football as well as getting their first ever win. The day also raised over £500 for the HoundDogs which will go back into the club to purchase some new equipment for all the players to benefit from. We had a BBQ going along with a merch stall, cakes, sweets and a Raffle. We would like to thank several local business who donated prizes to us including Haulaway Skips, Hailsham Pavilion, EP SPorts, Football America, Sport Bucks and Gun Brewery. The plan is to make this an annual event and we will be looking to expand the event in 2020 to 6 teams in age group. I would like to congratulate the winners and thank all those who helped out on the day. These volunteers is what our club has been built on and why we have achieved so much success these last few years.”
