Back in June, the story of Pam Baisden’s remarkable recovery from the coronavirus touched many people’s hearts when it was shared on the BBC South East Today programme and the BBC Radio Sussex breakfast show. After contracting the virus in hospital, Pam was transferred to our Inpatient Unit to receive end of life care. For weeks our Nurses cared for and supported Pam until she gradually got better and was able to walk out of the hospice on her own two feet, with our staff and volunteers clapping her as she left for home.

After recuperating at home with her husband Alan and their cats, Pam will be taking on the Virtual Starlight Stroll – a new feature of our much-loved yearly fundraising event for 2020, enabling those who cannot join us on the day to take part wherever they are. The Virtual Starlight Stroll will be taking place from Wednesday 12th of August until Saturday 12th of September, and during this time Pam will be taking on the four mile distance by walking around 200 metres a day in her garden, home and local area, as part of her ongoing rehabilitation. She will be supported by Alan and one of the St Wilfrid’s physiotherapists, Brendan Russell.

‘I can’t think of anything other than good wishes for St Wilfrid’s Hospice,’ Pam said. ‘This walk will be hard, but I can do anything for them because I am so grateful for what they have done for me.

‘I would love to raise money for the hospice and give back to them after they gave me such wonderful care.’

We wish Pam the best of luck with her walk, and you can support Pam her by donating to her fundraising page here.
