Some moments stay with you, and this was one of them.
This week, I had the privilege of presenting the latest Spirit of Eastbourne Award to Linda at Hampden Park Shed, and it turned into one of those genuinely emotional occasions that reminds you why we do this.
Linda had no idea it was coming. As the award was presented, she was visibly moved, brought to tears by the recognition, and it was clear just how much it meant. What made it even more special was the reaction from everyone around her. The people in the Shed were just as delighted, full of appreciation for everything she brings to the group.
The Spirit of Eastbourne Award is about recognising people who quietly make a difference. The ones who show up, support others, and build something meaningful within the community without asking for recognition.
Linda was nominated by Mina O’Brien from Eastbourne Carnival, who said, “I have known Linda for many years, mainly through my work on Eastbourne Carnival. Linda is a true community champion. Her work at Hampden Park Shed has had a positive impact on many. She is an avid supporter of Carnival, this year getting involved in our programme of creative workshops. We are delighted to be working with her. She fully deserves the Spirit of Eastbourne Award for her invaluable work in her community.”
After receiving the award, Linda shared that it is both a privilege and a pleasure to be involved with the Shed and to help others. She said the recognition was completely unexpected and meant a great deal to her.
Standing there, seeing the reaction from Linda and the wider group, it reinforced exactly what this award is about. Celebrating people who give their time, energy, and heart to others and make Eastbourne a better place because of it.
And this one felt very well deserved.
I work with local businesses who are already great at what they do and make their reputation visible so customers choose them with confidence.
