Eastbourne Borough Council is issuing a final call for local businesses to access Covid-19 support grants as next month's closure date nears, with £18.6m so far paid out.

The council has paid grants to 86% of all eligible small or retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in Eastbourne, equating to 1,484 firms.

The Small Business Grant Fund and the Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Grant Fund will close on Friday, August 28.

Meanwhile, the council’s Discretionary Grants Fund has already closed with all money allocated.

Councillor David Tutt, Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, said: “These grants have been crucial for the survival of many of the town’s shops, hotels, restaurants and cafes and I am delighted we have been able to quickly offer support to so many local businesses.

“The vast majority of eligible local businesses have now claimed grants. If you think your business is eligible but have not yet contacted us, please do so soon.”

Subject to checks, successful applicants usually receive grants payments three days after contacting the council.
