We had a lovely stay at the Grand, Eastbourne. Previous reviews are varied, but we found the hotel to be as expected. It's a very old, beautiful building, upkeep and maintenance must be an ongoing nightmare - they manage to do this exceptionally well.

Staff are professional, friendly and helpful.

We found the breakfast to be very good and the Garden Restaurant also extremely good - however dinner at the Mirabelle was excellent . Many thanks to restaurant manager Ben who, with his quiet, unassuming eye for perfection takes this restuarant into a whole different level of service.

The Health Club is good, good sized pool, well maintained and a good choice of beauty treatments - ask for BB, she is very good indeed.

The only dissappointment, and the reason for 4 not 5*s is the room. Why call a room deluxe when really it is very standard. The coffee/tea, Molton Brown toiletries are a nice touch - but there are too many failures to call it Deluxe. The room well - I would be struggling to give 3*s.

That said, we didn't use it for much and it didn't overly detract from our stay.

Overall we had a wonderful time and would love to return in the future.

This was our first stay away in a hotel since February 2020. Hence we were a little nervous as to how we would feel given the ongoing Covid pandemic. As soon as we arrived, all anxieties disappeared. A warm welcome, that continued all weekend from all the staff. We loved the quiet elegant ambience, the many places to sit and the good location for strolling to local shops or the sea across the road. Our breakfast was fantastic on all 3 mornings; a substantial cooked to order hot course and as many trips to the continental section (all manned by a very polite member of staff) as you wanted. We thought it worked better than pre pandemic as there were no queues or crowding around popular items. We dined in the Garden restaurant on Saturday night and enjoyed listening to the pianist, followed by dancing in the lounge afterwards. I did expect some windows or doors to be open to ventilate the room, but we managed to socially distance to mitigate this. Our room which was deluxe, no sea view, was large and comfortable and offered tea and coffee plus biscuits and Molton Brown toiletries which felt luxurious. This was our first visit to Eastbourne but it won't be our last. We will of course be staying again at The Grand

Grand it certainly is.The reviews we’ve seen are up and down. Our experience was behold a wonderful time.Location overlooking the sea is very therapeutic,we had a junior suite with great sea views and ideal for people watching 😊as entering and exiting the hotel.Great parking to be had there and only a short stroll into town.We had cocktails, fizz and more in the cocktail bar.All served with a smile and very adept staff.Cocktails were jolly good.Retired early to our room and proceeded with room service. All so tasteful and very hot.To mention also continental breakfast in the room the next morning was scrumptious with the views adding to the experience. Our junior suite was large, comfortable and clean with a great en suite bathroom etc.Their indoor swimming pool we used and glad we did.Suitable sized.warm clean and great facilities for changing, showering etc.Their outside pool looks great we were going to use later but unfortunately started to rain. The hotel oozes grandeur and although a little expensive will certainly be back.

A real experience staying in this beautiful hotel. Stunning interiors and very grand lounge areas. Executive room was spacious and in good condition. Bed exceptionally comfortable. Only downside was cost of drinks and lunch food. 4 G&Ts and 2 sandwiches cost £118!! Very nice but seriously!! Breakfast was included in the rate and was very nice in the beautiful dining room. Definitely a lovely experience.

Oh no this is not good !! First must say the super staff and cleanliness of the hotel are beyond reproach , but for heavens sake get back to self service breakfast with no Covid excuses :both days had lukewarm breakfast with poor staff rushing around and had to have designated time to eat . Why !! The lady dishing out the fruit juice and cereals had a big queue of people so that gets rid of that excuse for no self service . The evening meals were mediocre at best and expensive . Plus surely now no need for the poor staff to wear those masks which do not look good at all . No newspapers either , Why !! Oh Covid of course silly me , just an excuse.Plus both nights had doors open in bar freezing cold to let the germs out I suppose, every time they were opened a guest got up and closed them . We want to be warm !!!! The last gripe is the room , we booked deluxe side sea view which we have booked before a few years ago and that was super, but although had lovely sunny room this time it was really small and I thought they must have made a mistake for £285 a night . No trouser press either or iron ( not that we needed them particularly but they are on website as included) . The meaning of Deluxe in the OED is sumptuous which this was definitely not . We did query with reception but think staff are well trained and polite so we backed down as I think the hotel must realise that going away for a couple of days one has to just sort of roll over or spoil the experience completely. We had a lovely time but really some things should be addressed looking at recent trip advisor comments . They aren’t all just complaining for nothing .

The numbers say it all.

Location 5

Value for Money 1

Overall 3

The hotel is indeed, very “grand”, a large and impressive Victorian building, in a fabulous location on the seafront, but badly in need of a makeover.

First impressions were excellent, I had reserved a parking place and there it was, with my name on it. The guys at the front door were great, seeing to our luggage and sending it straight to our room - all very 5*.

However, it was downhill all the way after that. Furnishings and decor in our suite tired and dated. Bathroom old fashioned, with no separate shower, paper peeling from the wall and a window that didn’t seem to have been painted for years. A small and old fashioned tv (no 55” UHD sets here!) and, perhaps worst of all, no fridge in the room.

The hotel’s response to that last point btw is that I should have asked for one! Honestly??? In a 5* hotel???

Breakfast was ok, as it should have been, but nothing more and we ate out for dinner due to the eye watering prices in the hotel’s restaurant.

Must do better to justify the 5* prices that they charge.

I have some complaints. I will get to those, however, although they niggled, all was overshadowed by the exceptional service. We have stayed in some of the most exclusive hotels in the world yet never have we experienced such service. The rooms are tired but spotless. We looked forward to a sauna which no one had told us was closed due to Covid. The restaurant was slow and the food underwhelming but that paled into insignificance as we were treated as their most special guests (as, I imagine, every other guest was made to feel). We left with a feeling of sadness as every member of staff bid us farewell and hoped to see us again. It felt genuine and heartfelt and honestly; I would happily return and wait half an hour for our wine again. We felt as though we had stepped back in time. We imagined that every member of staff had gone through “The Grand” training but at no point did it feel scripted or false. We left feeling that we were honoured and welcomed guests. No matter how speedy the restaurant or spectacular the food, nothing comes close to how completely welcomed and special we were made to feel. Stay there, step back in time to the glory days of a truly special hotel and let any niggles drift away with the waves caressing the shore.

Stayed at the Grand Hotel Eastbourne for the weekend.

You do not need to wear face masks in the Hotel anymore. 😊

I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful, and I am including all of the boys and girls that we do not see without whom the Hotel would not run so smoothly.

Quite a few of the staff remembered me from previous stays even though this was the first time I had been back this year owing to Covid.

I noticed that there are quite a few new staff members since I was back. They are young, keen and enthusiastic.

Particular mention should be made for Harry and Olivia in the bar, they both remembered my likes from last time. Also I should mention Isabel in the bar. Message to management look after them. They are good.

The room that I had was nice and spacious with a lovely sea view.

I will next be back at the Grand at the end of next month.

Firstly from parking our car and onwards the staff working here were excellent, polite, smiling, and helpful. The room we stayed in only had a double bed we are used to a king size of larger in a 5 star hotel which was disappointing. The bar and dining area are very nice and clean. The rooms and corridors are in need of updating, few issues with the room which we reported. We like this hotel but for the money you are paying the accommodation should be of higher standard. However the people working here make the place the next step is a make over on the property.

Will start with the good then move onto the bad.
The building is lovely, the lounge areas are nice and relaxing, big and lovely restaurants, nice facilities (pool, gym and spa). The staff were amazing, everyone so friendly and helpful.
We stayed for one night and the real let down was the room. The room felt like it needed a lot of refurbishment, the door had big chips in it, generally all needed some attention, window was grubby, not as nice as downstairs areas. The worst part was the lack of noise insulation, the whole building had creaky floorboards, and the noise from the people in the room above us was SO loud, never experienced anything like it. They were only walking around normally but the TV doesn’t even cover it up the noise, and they came back late so got woken up from it and struggled to go back to sleep until the people upstairs were settled. Our room might have been particularly bad compared to others (avoid room 140), but I don’t think I could’ve stayed in the room for more than one night as had a bad nights sleep because of it.
Such a shame as most other parts of our stay were really nice.
I would say the hotel is better for afternoon tea, spa treatments, dinners etc than overnight stays.
If you stay overnight then try to get a room on the top floor or bring earplugs.

Had a complementary afternoon tea as a result of a mix up in booking last year. It was amazing, and the staff couldn't do enough to help us.

Wonderful stay, excellant food service etc as would expect. But it needs a good makeover.
Wasn't impressed with auto applied gratuity, which I was advised could be removed, it was.
