Massive hotel. Service is ok. Only concierge is helpful even though they have to do multi tasks. Such as parking allocation, helping guests with their luggage to their room and at check out.

I booked a classic superior room according to Expedia but upon check in, the reception said it was a class room in their booking system.

The room size and layout of two rooms have a lot of difference. But the reception gave me 2 rooms to choose but none of them would look similar to what I booked.

At the end, I chose the classic room because it had air con in the room and it was modern and clean. And it was ok.

The Grand hotel is fine with people looking for old fashion hotels and don’t mind overpriced room rate. But one need to be aware of the dated exterior and renovation is underway. The front desk staff somewhat not as the same par as when it’s in busy check in time, they don’t want to spend too much time with you if you have problems. To be fair, there were only 2 ladies at check in desk.

The Hotel is wonderful with as many of the original features on display. The rooms are spacious and in keeping with a period hotel. Excellent bathroom, comfy bed. The windows are old single glazed sash windows and rattle in the wind. However a couple of stratigicly placed teaspoons stopped the rattles. Breakfast is amazing something for everyone. The staff are amazing as the guest is their most important focus. All reflected in the price. Top marks

The Grand is a very lovely hotel which has kept its feeling of grandeur from times gone by without being old fashioned or shabby. It has a quiet elegance with exceptional decor and service.

Loved the Hotel & we upgraded and had a superb sea view. Very good facilities. Excellent breakfast, because the Hotel was quite quiet on our visit, the already huge dining / breakfast room seemed even bigger & therefore lacked a little bit of atmosphere. Could easily be sectioned off during the quieter periods. Would happily return to The Grand Hotel.

The room we opted for was rated as De Lux which we thought was rather over the top. The bed in the room was designated a double bed but in fact it was the smallest double we have ever tried to sleep in. Also the absence of a refrigerator was also unusual in a room designated De Lux. The food was reasonably good but rather over priced and the wine was riidiculously over priced. Having lived in South Africa for over 30 years we were aware that a bottle of Robertson Sauvignon Blanc would cost around around R150. Obviously transport costs would inflate the price but we would not have thought it would jump from R150 to R1080 plus 12.5% service charge. I would mention that Robertson wine was not particularly highly rated as it was seen as just an average every day drink. Many apologies for appearing to be rather negative in our assessment of this hotel.

I’ve been coming to The Grand on and off for over 20 years now — from high tea with my wife during Airbourne weekend, to numerous business events and special occasions, often through the local Chamber of Commerce. It’s one of those places that becomes part of the landscape of your life, without needing to shout about it.
Visually, it really is quite something. The building has presence — that traditional, unapologetically grand exterior, with well-kept interiors to match. The main areas, especially the lounges and public rooms, are extremely well presented. You feel like you're somewhere that still understands how to do things properly.
I’ve stayed here a few times over the years. The rooms have always been above standard — clean, comfortable, and well equipped — but not necessarily the kind of place you’d write home about. Solid, dependable, quietly refined. For me, it’s the atmosphere and the service that elevate the experience.
One thing I’ll say — and I think it matters — I’ve never had a bad experience at The Grand. Not once. The table service in the lounges and sitting rooms has always been exceptional. Classic silver service, staff who know how to move discreetly, and that sense of calm you don’t often find anymore. It’s quietly impressive.
The food is good — well-executed and nicely presented. It is on the pricier side, but in fairness, you’re paying as much for the setting and experience as the meal itself. If you’re expecting value in terms of portion size or trendiness, this might not be the place — but if you want formality, quality, and attention to detail, it delivers.
All told, The Grand is exactly what it says it is. Not overly flashy, not trying to be something it’s not — just a well-kept, well-run hotel with real history and a strong sense of occasion.

Lunch for 4, Wednesday, precooked.
A very stylish hotel that know how to treat guests. Could easily be in centre of London, except for the sea-view.
The set Lunch was excellent, and it was cooked and presented to the highest standards.
The staff were welcoming, professional and knowledgeable.
Would highly recommend and will return

Mother and teenage daughter stay.
From the minute we arrived we were treated like royalty. The people there make stay amazing, every single staff member from the concierge, students in bar staff , to the cleaners were amazing.
friendly relaxed and approachable. Taking the time to have a conversation even when they were busy.
We stayed 3 nights ;
In the junior suite for 2 nights and had a large double bed and a double sofa bed which were both super comfortable.
The room was extremely clean and were given plenty of coffee and water anytime we asked for more. Nespresso Coffee machine with pods and a kettle with lots of choice including hot chocolate (all on brand)
Room service was spot on, no long wait times and the food was beautiful.
We have breakfast in bed on one day and this was a real highlight , hot food served beautifully on a table for us.
On the last night we enjoyed our stay so much we decided to stay another night in a main suite. The sea view was beautiful the room was lovely however I wish I had known we were going to get 2 single beds in one room or we would have stayed where we were (to be fair, it was busy and they didn’t have any more beds as we booked an additional night last minute, we were also offered the option to move back but as we had already asked Chris to move our luggage I decided against it.)
The hotel itself is a beautiful old building and the still a grand one in my opinion.
The swimming pools were beautiful and warm and not overcrowded by any standard. We never swam with more than 5 people in the pool at any time.
My daughter has fallen in love with the hotel and the staff and I feel exactly the same. We cannot wait to come back. The most relaxing short break we have had in a long time.
Thank you to all the staff at the “The Grand “ for making our stay so special.

Great hotel with real character. Very friendly, helpful and professional staff. This is an old building and in places it looks a little tired but in no way did this distract from the enjoyment of our stay. A beautiful location and we had a sea view room which made the stay even more special. We had a wonderful afternoon tea and will be back for a longer stay to make more of the spa facilities.

Staff were amazing and the building is stunning. Lots of communal areas and we had some live music in the bar in the evening. Lots of choice at breakfast and they catered to gluten free. Room was lovely and very clean. Only downside is that the leisure facilities are getting a bit run down, but they are still nice to use.

I had a fabulous stay! I was in recovery from a gastricoperation and had very tricky food requirements. The staff were extremely helpful and went above and beyond to ensure I had meals that met all the requirements (dairy free, gluten free and no acidic or spicy foods). The chef made me tasty alternatives and i enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea that catered to all my dietary requirements. A special mention of Chantelle, who at every dinner service ensured that my meals met all my requirements numerous times. My stay was relaxing, in the perfect location. I would stay again thanks to the impeccable service of the staff!

Amazing service. We couldn't find parking and a gentlemen informed us there is an event, but as soon as a slot was available he rushed to us to let us know.
Only thing I could improve was: the split between the beds means you fall in the gap, a good mattress topper would have solved this issue.

Went for an afternoon tea which was really nice and the building is lovely. We did order a tea and it took 30 mins to come. After asking 3 times how long is it going to be we was told they were busy which I thought was a shame as we only ordered hot water with a tea bag so maybe they need more staff to accommodate the guests. I did expect more from a place such as this. Also the car park is small and we had to park on the street and pay.
