Lovely day out as it’s only 4 miles from us. The observatory is well worth a visit. Try to visit the castle outside of term time, otherwise it’s closed

Fantastic building with beautiful gardens.
Not sure it was worth the entrance fee.
Would have been nice to actually visit a couple of rooms. Also not enough historical information about the buildings life and background.
However very picturesque.

Wonderful old castle, sadly entrance and grounds look unkept. It was not busy.Tea shop, one cake on display, shop full of bees. Outside area no shade, umbrellas. Food coming out in polystyrene containers. We decided to find somewhere else. Pity as the whole experience has the potential to be really good.

Beautiful castle grounds and woodland. Nice cafe and gift shop too. We didn't see the interior, but enjoyed a lovely walk through the grounds. We arrived in the morning on a weekend shortly after it opened and it wasn't very busy then. It got busier when we left around lunchtime.

Beautiful flowers in bloom in the garden. Overgrown grass/weeds, but nice walk around the castle grounds. Scones dry/chewy at time of visit at cafe. Entry fee slightly expensive to see flowers and walk the grounds.

Fabulous gardens. As university shut entrance is via the castle drawbridge, so can walk through to the tranquil gardens.
Castle arts gallery/shop now open with local arts, crafts and stained glass.

Disappointed not to be able to explore more of the castle, but the tea rooms and gardens were lovely.

Can't get into the castle but the grounds are great. We went today and it wasn't over crowded, you just wander where you want to . Some areas we didn't see a soul.
So much to see , all different aspects. From wild woods to laid out flower beds. There is also a huge wildflower meadow.
If you've got the 2for1 magazine from Gardeners World the price for 2 people is a bargain at £8, well worth the money. They also have a small cafe.

University grounds, interesting gardens with well established flowerbeds. Cafe and art gallery on site too. We visited during a sudden downpour which told us that there are limited places to take refuge around the gardens, but cheap and easy to get to.

Beautifully scenic Castle that is an active college. Be aware that you can only visit the grounds which will be good for circa 2 hours.
Highlights include the curated gardens, pond walks and folly.
Only given 4 stars due to cafe staffing appearing overwhelmed with what wasn't a 'rush' of customers.
Overall a good afternoon out for the family

We have just collected our year's membership and fully intend to visit the gardens on a frequent basis over the Summer and into Autumn especially for the butterflies that inhabit the flower beds. The gardens are immaculate and varied and the woods beyond prove perfect for walking our spaniel, especially attractive at present as the trees are in full leaf. The cafe is a nice touch and provides savoury and sweet treats at a reasonable cost, just beware of the wasps!
