We were fortunate enough to arrive half hour before last entry. Had a pleasant afternoon tea with a peacock for company.
Then visited the lovely gardens, still some in bloom and interesting grasses too. Virtually empty too! 👌
Well worth a visit. Stunning castle!

Good, it's a university/college so you can't go inside any of the rooms. You can walk through the middle and see the courtyards in there. The gardens are lovely. We went for a walk round the woods and went for a coffee. Overall a good day out

The castle was built in mid-15th century by Sir Roger Fiennes. After World War II, the castle & its estate became the home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory for forty years in 1993. The same year, the estate was gifted to Queen's University in Canada by one of its former student, Dr. Alfred Bader.

Beautiful picturesque castle.Grounds and walled gardens were stunning.Curious sheep, noisy geese on the moat., peacocks in the garden. The cafe serves lovely cakes and pots of tea....not just tea bags in mugs of hot water. Shop was impressive as well...some unusual things. Castle is a lovely building but used as a school so you can only see inside on limited days of the year.Very reasonably priced.

Lovely day in yhe Sundhine walking around the grounds and gardens. Wedding taking place within the castle just meant that the car park was busy still plenty of room to park Nice cup of coffee and sausage roll for lunch.

What a fascinating place to visit, we entered with the Gardeners World 2 for 1 so only paid £8 for the both of us. Sadly we couldn't go inside the castle itself due to it being term time, and populated by very lucky Canadian students. What a great place to study!

We had a leisurely stroll around the grounds and enjoyed the gardens, a tad late in the summer season so some plants and flowers were past their best, but it was still lovely.

Enjoyed a tasty coffee from the on site cafe, but above all the views of the castle are spectacular and worth the visit alone!

Beautiful grounds , park around the castle , shame couldn't go in the castle itself but I think it's an operating collage still. Great coffee shop, lots of parking available and The observatory Science Centre next door. It's been pleasure to visit. Thanks 👌 😊

Herstmonceux is one of our absolute favourite places to visit. The stunning castle is surrounded by beautiful, varied grounds that are a joy to walk around whatever the season. Managed with biodiversity in mind, the gardens are a great place for wildlife spotting, and full of wonderful hidden nooks to sit and enjoy the atmosphere - the folly garden is one of our favourite spots. There's also a great cafe for a bite to eat and a cup of tea, and make friends with the jackdaws who roost in the ancient sweet chestnut trees nearby. A real gem of a place, can't recommend enough.
