I didn't visit the castle today. But if you looking for a nice walk with your dogs, this is one of my favourite local walks. Lovely views. The medieval festival in August is well worth a visit too.

Herstmonceux Castle is a very beautiful castle in the High Weald area. On the frontside it is sourrounded by a moat of water. A bridge is leading go the entrance.<br>On the backside of the castle there is a wonderful garden and a parc.

First brick built castle in UK in 15th century which has been rebuilt, extended and restored over many hundred of years. Take the guided tour to relive day to day life hundreds of years ago. Still retains much of its original most complete with water. The castle is set in its original grounds which is magnificent and worthy of a family day out complete with picnic.

There's free parking here, a lovely café/ tea room, and an art shop staffed by local artists. The grounds are extensive, with forest walks, lakes, a folly and formal gardens too. There are some extremely old trees lining the path and there are large pieces of artwork dotted around the grounds. The castle itself looks stunning from the outside. It is part of a university now. It's possible to look round with a guide (seasonal), they talk about the history as you go around. However, the inside has barely any historical features left. That said, it's still worth a visit especially for the gardens and grounds.

Beautiful castle but Didn't make it inside or in the grounds as it shuts in October. Tea rooms were also closed. Would have liked to read some information about it while we were there.
