Despite living in the area it's taken us 6 years to get round to visiting the castle.
Well worth a half day visit though to enjoy the splendid gardens and tea room. Plenty of flower and shrub borders closer to the castle, with woodlands at the rear, including an orchid. Interesting sculptures (some for sale) are dotted about the estate.
Students are in attendance more or less all year round and they were very well behaved when we were there.
The Castle is currently being used as classrooms for students and as such you can't look inside. Although an extremely knowledgeable campus security guard told us tat there is a plan to organise internal tours at a later date. Very interesting to hear him talk about the history of the place and how Herstmonceux got its name.
Plenty of seating areas to sit down and take in the peacefulness. The back of the Folly house is particularly worth a visit.
Lucky enough to see a demonstration from a bird of pray chap who regularly uses the castle for displays.

At first sight arriving, really lovely and the lake with water lollies super in the sunshine, you can only walk through to the gardens as the castle is a college for students now.
Nevertheless when walking through the gardens is a beautiful sight. Colour everywhere, and if you see the magic Garden ur in for a treat too. Just lovely great day out.

Spent Sunday evening at the Tatoo event at the Castle. It was absolutely fantastic. The organisation was on point no queuing to get in , well orchestrated car parking and lots of great viewing seating areas. The Bands sounded wonderful and with the back drop of the Castle - what an atmosphere. Well done Herstmonceux Castle and all its staff and volunteers.

Beautiful place, the castle well maintained and kept in a very good state, but certainly also the grounds. Lovely to walk around, have some quiet time and enjoy the huge variety of plants and trees.
The castle is really an extension of Queens University in Canada allowing their students to experience a new culture; so it largely consists of classrooms.
Entrance fee is £8.

Despite there not being a huge amount to do here other than walk round the grounds. There is a small cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Shame the Castle isn't open to look round more often. The gardens are good and well presented. The woodland is nice and relaxing when there aren't lots of children running around screaming. The price is a bit high for entry.

Beautiful place with lovely gardens and statues to keep children occupied. Complete with a tea room and on site parking. You have to pay to walk the grounds or if you go there often buy a season ticket and save money. Follow signs for the Camera Observatory/obscure and this will lead you to the Castle via a friendly security porter on the main entrance, you can then proceed down a few hundred meters to the Castle where you can park on the grass and picnic before entering the open grounds, it really is a beautiful place to spend a good few hours.

Good morning visit. Be careful not to use the published post code as it takes you to the rear entrance which is miles away. Nice coffee at a good price.
