Unfortunately when we visited, the front and side of the castle had scaffolding and plastic sheeting, so unable to get a view from those angles, but still beautiful from the rear. The gardens were spectacular with many unusual varieties of flowers and shrubs. Some gorgeous ancient trees

Great for £10.....plus another £4 for a guided tour. Interesting history. Could easily spend half a day here, then there is the observatory just up the road

Quiet and attractive gardens. Very relaxing place to visit and not too expensive. A decent cup of coffee and food at reasonable prices. Lots of interest in the gardens, including many sundials.

Superb. Ethereal almost, moated castle with walled cottage gardens, woodlands and observatories. Nice cafe. Some maintenance going on at the castle atm so expect scaffolding. Outstanding falconry experience.

We had a lovely walk around the gardens, spring flowers were lovely. A little disappointed with gardens to be honest, but for £10 admission it was value for money as we had a lovely walk through the grounds with the dog. Small tearoom with cake, sausage rolls etc., which was nice. The castle was having major renovations done so didn't go in, but having a dog we wouldn't have anyway. We arrived in our motorhome and they managed to accommodate us. Very friendly helpful staff. 😊

Had a private tour of the Castle,Melinda, the guide was so knowledgeable, on point, sense of humour, inclusivity.
It became my favourite place to go and to my shame I lived in Eastbourne 11 years and visit so many things in UK but not on my door step.
Amazing, as it 's the people that can make the place come alive in a particular way, I felt carried trough time, my world is bigger today, my being has been nourished by this experience.
Cafe is a real bonus, people making efforts accommodate my needs, I am vegan and by magic some tasty vegan sausage rolls were produced, there was vegan ice-cream and a promise of cake coming soon.
Beautiful gardens, plenty of season plants, coulour, wildlife and huge sky, acres of land, forrest, marsh a deer park.
Maybe that's why the observatory is there also. I ve not checked of that is still in use.
The place is accessible on lower ground for wheelchair users, seen ramps but I ve not asked if there is a lift as the tour goes upstairs inside the Castle.
Magic 🏰
Also affordable!

Had the internal tour for the first time and loved it. The tour guide has so much knowledge and detail on the building and the grounds from Neolithic times to the current restoration work being carried out. I can't wait to go back when the restoration is complete and see some more! The Gardens, meadow and woods are very well kept and a great walk around (Dogs allowed on leads in the grounds). The bluebells are filling the air with scent at the moment and it smells great. If your really quiet you're sometimes lucky to spot the Deer wandering about. A lovely place to visit, worth becoming a member like we have. Even has a great cafe now.

What a wonderful find. We went for a little stroll from Henner's vineyard to the church and beyond and found Herstmonceux castle with the tea room open! The grounds were beautiful and we will be back for the tour very soon. So beautiful even though the front is undergoing major renovations. Lots of birds nesting in the hollows of the trees

Really interesting place. We all enjoyed the visit. Yes the front of the castle was covered with scaffolding but we have been advised about everything in detail! Lovely lady honestly explained everything by the gates before paying the admission fees. Gardens were fantastic and inside the castle was amazing…. like Harry Potter place. Would be brilliant if they could give access for more rooms….

Make sure you enter the estate via the main gate and show your ticket otherwise you will be chased by the staff. Even though you just got lost cycling. I was there when it had some work done.

Apart from scaffolding at front of castle and unable to use the main bridge entrance, which we were told about on at main entrance to grounds, we were very disappointed with the unkempt state of the gardens. They clearly need regular maintenance .
