Lovely pub serving great traditional British food. I ate here several times whilst visiting the UK and still remember the memorable dish of slow cooked lamb shanks. Truly wonderful pub food.

Changed into a first class pub and restaurant. Hamburgers are memorable and not expensive. Beers are well kept and the place has been nicely refurbished. Clean with excellent service.

We called in last night with our two dogs. They sat under that table while we had a very lovely dinner - form the specials board. The menu is very good. The quality is high and potions are generous. We will certainly be returning. The pub is independent , very well presented, right on the prom...and it welcomes dogs - which is useful as it is just around the corner form the Shore View Hotel which allow allows dogs to stay. So this is a great weekend solution for dog owners visiting Eastbourne.

Six of the eight of us had never been in this pub before, but we were greeted like old friends, and the evening just took off from there. Our first introduction was to a lady of a certain age, distributing fliers for a Chubby Checker show. The more she tried to encourage us to remember him, the more our memories failed. Defeated, we thought, she left the pub, but was back half an hour later, still trying to ignite interest. If only she had known that a REALLY famous pop star was sitting at the back of the pub, quietly having a couple of drinks with his mates......For us the beer and wine were good, the food was excellent pub grub, and the staff were just what you want in a pub - anticipated what you were drinking, interested in what you were saying, funny to to talk to, but all the while running a great establishment. If ever you're in Eastbourne, visit the Crown and Anchor.

My wife and I braved the elements last Sunday and fell into The Crown & Anchor having remembered it being recommended. Suddenly it felt like the sun was shining and the wind had subsided, as great food was served with a smile and washed down with great beer. The best pub meal in Eastbourne in my humble opinion and we'll certainly be back…come rain or shine!

Escaped the elements into this pub which we loved last time we visited. Found a table. Was instantly greeted and drink order taken at the table. Drinks arrived and food ordered. Not one note pad in sight. Food was delicious and massive portions. This is a all round good pub and just wish we lived closer to visit more often

Lovely pub, with super friendly staff.. Was very disappointed with the food though, bland and tasteless, garnish was gruesome dried shrivelled cucumber, salad leaves where old and having the burger which came on a bun 3 times it size, overcooked burger and bacon, plastic cheese and soft greasy chips. My partner had a lasagne which was over microwaved and barely ate it. would have been 5* otherwise.

Great pub, clean, polite bar staff and superb food. Just looking at some of the old reviews. I feel I need to add that the pub changed landladys about 5 months ago, being a local I know what the pub used to be like, it is now the complete opposite.

Lovely popular pub, quite busy with a large private function room upstairs with its own bar.

Four of us went to this pub for lunch on Monday. What a delight! The food was excellent served hot but not microwave burning. We had lamb shanks with tasty, properly cooked vegetables which we all would recommend. The service was prompt and friendly. If you are in Eastbourne, you just have to try this pub, it's a cut above!

We had a change of plans and last minute found this pub, which allowed our dog inside and we enjoyed good food and were impressed with the helpful friendly staff too. When next in the area, we would eat there again. Luckily we could used a table that was booked for later, but I would recommend booking in advance.

We didn't want to walk far in the wind and the rain so thought we'd try the Crown & Anchor. Food was typical Greene King pub food - tasty enough, reasonable portions, quick and pleasant service ...... and obviously a very popular pub.
Being so popular, as a pub, it was very noisy as there was no separate dining and drinking areas.Probably will go back again .... if it's wet and windy !

We went here because the restaurant at the hotel where we were staying was so awful and we didn't want to eat there a second evening! We came across this pub whilst out looking for somewhere to go that evening so we decided to pop in for a light snack and if it was any good, we'd return. It was warm and welcoming, very friendly staff and it looked festive with all it's decorations. Our light snack turned out not fo be very light!
My husband had a bacon baguette which was delicious and I had a cheese and ham toastie which sadly I couldn't quite finish. It too was delicious( and restored my faith in toasted sandwiches having had three in three different pubs recently and all very poor) it was served by a lovely young man, presumably the chef. The beer was also very good.
As it was only a few minutes walk from the hotel we returned for dinner. It was an awful evening, blowing an absolute gale, but it was well worth it. The place was buzzing and we managed to sit at the same table. My husband had another beer and we shared a bottle of red wine which they eventually found after much searching so nothing was too much trouble. We both chose the braised lamb shank served with roast or mashed potatoes. We didn't order starters as we had an idea of the size of the portions! When it arrived it included roast parsnips, leeks in a sauce, broccoli, swede, cabbage and carrots! It was delicious, nothing fancy, just good wholesome food well cooked and sensibly priced. If we are ever in the area again we will certainly return.

great bustling pub, lovely great food and entertainment.
bar prices a bit on the expensive side example was a pint of kronenbourg and a single vodka and diet coke £8.10 but food prices value for money as portion sizes plentiful

Visited twice over a weekend away and can say that both times it was busy but that didnt stop us being able to get a table for a meal. Staff were friendly and our food prompt in arriving.
Would definitely consider this seafront pub again if visiting Eastbourne.

Love this pub, we have been going there for a few years now when we stay in Eastbourne. Staff are always friendly and the food is excellent. They do a great deal on a cheese board for two with a bottle of wine for £15, which is very good value. Highly recommend this pub.

Greene King pub serving good value meals and some good ales - Gangly Ghoul in particular, one I've not seen anywhere else.

My partner and I visited for dinner. We have not been here before even though we live locally. Service was great, everyone was friendly. The service was quick and portion sizes are big. The bar became quite busy which is a good sign in my eyes and they are dog friendly which is also a big plus point from me. We will definitely be returning and taking our two fur balls along.

Just out of town a little bit but still one of Eastbourne's hidden gems - reasonably priced, nice food - real ale beers to keep the men happy, sport of televisions but not overpowering - just gave atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon. Would go again.
