Had a lovely meal here after a great walk along the sea front. The staff were friendly and helpful and the veggi sharing platter was lovely.

Great pub for family meals, meeting friends, playing pool or watching footie. Seen some great bands on Friday and Saturday nights too. The awesome function room upstairs is a cut above anywhere else in Eastbourne for celebrating special events. Got to say the bar staff don't keep you waiting and always have a laugh too - great boozer :-)

Went here a few years ago and again last night. Great friendly atmosphere. Attentive staff who point out waiting customers to each other to save them waiting. Good beer and decent live music. Although I was on my own I didn't feel alone.

During our few days stay I eastbourne during easter half term, my other half had spotted this pub on the corner just a stones throw from where we were staying. I was a bit sceptical as from the outside it looked a little like any old pub, but it has been decorated with modern touches. The menu was traditional pub classics but lovely to see they had vegetarian and vegan food. What we ordered all came out piping hot...I had the cod...it was beautifully flaky and the batter was really bubbly. I was proven wrong and would eat here again. My little boy enjoyed his kids meal and they even accommodated my request for carrots with his peas...try and counter weigh the chips he's eaten two nights in a row haha. Would recommend...tasty food, nice local atmosphere and good prices. I understand why the got pub of the year 2016

Nice pub, with good service. There is a sign saying ask if you want a burger well cooked, and I'd advise against it as my burger cooked to normal extent was certainly well done to death - and was lost within it's bun. Chips also of the chunky but overdone oven chips type. Nothing to moan about but nothing to shout about either.
However, my friends who had various vege starters, had plates that looked a bit more appetising and indeed said so. A bit more effort had gone into these - and after all any old fool can bung a frozen burger in a skillet.

After a long walk around Eastbourne and finding that its not the most dog friendly location to be with regards to taking my dog inside as I am NOT STUPID enough to leave her tied up outside, I happened upon this little gem. The Crown & Anchor.
I walked in and was met by very friendly bar staff. A lady came straight away to see if my little buddy wanted a drink of water. She got a big bowl of cold water and my little dog Lapped up a load of it. Clearly very thirsty. Well.....that was this place sold as far as I was concerned.
I ordered a pint of Ale and sat drinking it whilst looking around. This place had a real traditional feel to it. All the bar staff clearly got on like they were all close friends yet were on the ball with regards to keeping the customers served.
It had a very friendly feel to it. I didn't eat but a lot of people were eating and the food looked amazing.
Ill be back in Eastbourne and will definitely go back to this place.

Definitely worth a visit, staff were lovely and friendly. The rodeo burger was delicious. However, the pints could be cheaper but other than that the place was clean and well presented.

Warm welcome with a friendly atmosphere. Plenty of tables but not too many. Good menu for pub grub and a specials menu on chalk board. The fish pie off the specials menu was delicious although almost too much for one person. The beer baked cod and chips also delightful and plentiful. A pub you can just sit and relax in. They aren't all like that! Pub is close to the sea front.

I contacted The Crown & Anchor as I was looking for a pub in Eastbourne which was showing the Six Nations rugby and could cater for a party of 12. I explained to the lady on the phone that we were in the area for a special birthday and the finals of the Six Nations was going to be one of the highlights. She was very helpful, even walking into the bar to help her decide which was the best table to reserve for us.
We arrived with much anticipation and were shown to our table which had excellent views of the television. We ordered food which was of a decent quality and several rounds of drinks as we enjoyed the penultimate match as a warm up to the England v Ireland game. As we settled to down to watch the anticipated final the television channel was switched to show football. Much to our dismay all the other televisions apart from ours were still showing rugby. We spoke to the bar staff and were told some other people who were sat the other side of the bar in front of a television showing rugby wanted to watch a local football match so we asked if the two television channels could simply be swapped. This was refused and the manager told us in no uncertain terms that if we did not like it we could leave. I may be cynical but surely we could have been told this would be the case either on booking or before we parted with a considerable amount of money on food and drinks. Sadly as the pub was packed with people watching the rugby we had no choice but to leave and return to our accomodation to huddle around a smalll television in one of the rooms to watch what was left of the match. Such a shame that staff attitude has prompted this review which would have otherwise been quite positive.

We had a family meal yesterday at the crown & Anchor and I cannot recommend it enough! I had the halloumi burger which was absolutely delicious and my husband had the roast which he said was the best roast he had eaten in years! (Not sure what that says about my cooking) The service was friendly and efficient and we had our 2 year old daughter who was made to feel welcome, would highly recommend! Great atmosphere and lovely decor!

I had seen good reports on Tripadvisor, but a real pub right on the seafront next to our hotel... almost impossible! However, as is often the case, I was wrong. The Crown and Anchor is as fine a gastropub as I could wish to try.
Wanting something to eat, and being so close, it seemed the obvious place to go. The beer was excellent, and the food was tasty. But the best thing about it was the atmosphere: the staff were friendly and efficient, even after my card was initially declined - all was eventually sorted. As we were starting, a young man set up for a live music session. We had some banter with him, totally friendly (his guitar playing was reasonable, but his singing... but that would be a different review!
At the same time there was a football match on the TV at the other end of the bar, but there was no animosity between the two factions; they each got on with what they were into. All in all a good place to visit, though I have a feeling it could get very noisy in high season.

I don't know what the rest of Eastbourne ''s pub grub is like if this gets one of the best reviews on TA. It was just an average meal but value for money .

We were staying in the hotel just opposite the pub, and spotted it when parking the car.
After checking out the reviews ( which were mainly positive) we decided to dine there.Just to make sure we had a table, I phoned them to book, no trouble..
Good job I did as the place was pretty full. The pub had a good atmosphere about it and all the staff were friendly and accommodating.
Our food didn't take too long to arrive, and when it did, well the reviews didn't lie...We had two steaks, hot burger and sausage and mash.
All well presented and good portion sizes. We all enjoyed the mains and dessert so much, that we decided to book for the following evening....
This turned out to be a repeat performance.....EXCELLENT...10/10..

Stayed locally while working in the area and visited twice. Ate on both visits, lamb shank the first night and pork belly the second. Both meals were of good quality, served quickly and were reasonably priced. The beer is well kept and a choice of four real ales. The pub doesn't have a seperate restaurant area but doesn't really need it. There is a seperate 'Sports Bar' but this doesn't intrude even with football being shown and a darts match taking place.
There are a mixture of all walks of life coming and going but the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable.Parking in the evening is no issue but may be harder during the day, especially during the busier seasons.
Staff are very friendly but can at times be slightly off the ball but in general the service is good. The toilets could be cleaner but to be fair, i have seen far worse. The bar stools are well overdue a replacement or at the very least a good clean as they are stained and unsightly.Overall, a decent pub offering decent food and drink.

Staying at the 'York House' just down the road so this place was handy. Neighbourhood bar on the seafront with pool/darts/sports TV good service and burgers to savour ( tried the stilton burger , delicious ) . Couple of real ales but no craft lager .
Visited twice and will return

We have visited The Crown & Anchor before and I must say it's has improved every visit.
We decided to go there to eat for the first time while visiting Eastbourne.
It was a very cold wet evening, however the pub was warm and cosy with just a few customers. The young lady that served us was friendly and helpful.
The menu was added to with a specials board. I ordered cottage pie which it said it was homemade with vegetables.
I checked what vegetables as some places only give you peas.
However when the dinner arrived it was definitely a homemade Cottage Pie, it was in a large dish and came with four different Fresh Vegetables!!! Wow I love veg and always have to pay extra for it.
My husband ordered Scampi and he said it was very good. There was plenty too
I would have liked to have desert but was too full, there were lovely deserts, rhubarb crumble , jam pudding, bread and butter pub and lots more.
The two guys working behind the bar / food were friendly too
The drink choice / price was good so will certainly visit again soon.

Just had a succulent belly pork with freshly cooked seasonal veg and creamy mash. Who wants exotic cuisine when good old British fare is this good. I was full before the plate was finished but cleared it anyway cos I loved it. Staff were friendly and efficient, food arrived quicker than expected and, my pet hate when it's not done, my plate was cleared away smartly to top it all they keep a good cellar here too. I enjoyed watching the football but if that's not your cuppa it's not intrusive. In the short time I was there they impressed me hugely. I'll be back next time I'm in Eastbourne. Well done and thanks to bar staff and chefs. Cheers
