Amazing authentic Pizza

Run by a family from Salerno, at the edge of the Amalfi coast as you head towards Cilento, this is extraordinary, friendly, authentic southern Italian cuisine in the heart of Eastbourne. In a town blessed with several good Italian restaurants, Anema e core ('heart and soul') doesn't merely hold its own against them but also against the myriad of impressive places to eat in Brighton, further along the coast.
This is sumptuous, fresh, lovingly prepared food with an equally impressive wine list (ask what they have in from Campania and Puglia). However, it's the service which really and truly sets this restaurant apart and makes this one of Eastbourne's very finest - in any category. This is a family run enterprise and the hospitality is like you have stumbled into a neighbourhood restaurant in Amalfi or Praiano.
Absolutely delightful.

We loved the freshly oven cooked pizzas! The tasty crust was delicious. Antonio gave us a nice explanation on how the dough was made. The place to be for pizza lovers!

Been here quite a few times now and the food never disappoints. It can get busy on a Friday or Saturday evening but the service is always friendly and reasonably quick. The pizzas are the best in Eastbourne, beautifully light and thin, authentically Neopolitan. Pasta is good too, but the pizzas reign supreme here.

Took us sometime to find new location due to google delay but thank you kindness of Dutch resident of Eastbourne which guide us on the rainy evening we found it. This is very nice Italian restaurant with very helpful, attentive and polite staff. Very good choice of starters more than decent wine list, which brings us to mains. Despite advice of lovely waitress to eat their specials: pizzas and pastas we went for seafood dishes. I had Frittura di Pesce which is Neapolitan seafood dish and this was disappointing, however you wife has chosen Branzino del Pescatore (Sea bass fillet) and she was more than happy I tried her food and it was delicious. Desserts were very yummy too! I am looking forward to the next trip to Eastbourne to try their specials. One more observation, we were quite impressed by their size of vegetarian and gluten free menus so anyone can be accommodated A+++

Wanted lunch before the theatre in Eastbourne. This came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. Does not look great from outside, but clean and welcoming inside. The menu was vast, lots of delicious things to choose from,
Our selections were perfect, iced fish to share, then a veal and Gorgonzola dish, and a steak with Parmesan and rocket.

We went a few days after Mother's Day (having been there a few days before with my partner)... the staff remembered us, remembered that I had eaten pizza previously. Cannot recommend enough! Great food, great drink, great food, great atmosphere, amazing staff!
We will definitely be returning again, & again & again & again ....

I brought my mother here on March 25. We were seated in the back at a less than optimal table for four people that was tucked behind a work area and next to a window looking out the side of the building. From the beginning the staff were attentive and balanced a friendly approach with an appropriate level of enthusiasm for their work. Smiles are given freely and food and drink is priced sympathetically. The food provided was tasty and well cooked without being pretentious. We drank a very pleasant bottle of white wine. If I'm being honest, I've had better quality steak elsewhere but, what was served was nevertheless flavourful. I would be inclined to return but, perhaps order a simpler main course like a pizza perhaps. The calamari starter was good. The cafe affogato was disappointing by Italian standards but the coffee was very good. If I managed this place, I would seek to improve the ingredients used and the standard of the more expensive choices on the menu. I would NOT change the front of house staff who are all excellent. Worth coming to. Choose carefully and enjoy the surroundings, the service and of course the food.

I am Italian and I am very fussy about my Italian food as I cook a lot at home, so when I choose to go to an Italian restaurant I expect quite a good standard. Well I think anema e core always surprises me and surpasses my expectations. Every time I go, there is something new to try as well as the expected menu. Today I had a beautiful rice and lentils soup to start with, which reminds me of my mum's soup, absolutely delicious!!! Then I picked the trofie with seafood, again absolutely tasty and full of flavour. To end a beautiful meal we chose a ricotta and pear tart, which was delicate but at the same time rich in flavour, achieving a surprisingly soave taste. We also had a cannolo siciliano, which was delicious.
It goes without saying that the warmth and welcoming from lia and her staff it's second to none. The restaurant was full and yet the food arrived on time and always with a smile or a nice comment!!!! Well done, please do not ever change... It's so rare to find restaurants like yours!!!! Grazie per il pranzo speciale and for the lovely card!!!! Un bacio xxxx

A rainy day in Eastbourne brightened by the smiling face of our waiter & the good food provided. Vegetable soup good,Arancini very good & plentiful prawns in the seafood cocktail.
Bolognese tagiatelle particularly tasty,Ravioli very meaty with perhaps an over generous butter sauce,& the Spaghetti Scarpariello perfect.
Overall a very pleasant time was had by all.

Really reasonably priced. Staff were lovely and really attentive. Food was awesome!! Amazing choice - took us a while to narrow down our options!! Great drinks. We sat right by the big traditional pizza oven and it was really interesting to watch! If you are in the area definitely go here but be sure to book first!

From first contact with Lia she was very helpful and decorated the table for my sister in law and supplied a birthday card signed by all the staff which was a lovely touch for the evening.

One of the best Italian Restaurants we have been to. Lovely food at great prices. The Pizzas are the best which are cooked in a proper pizza oven in the restaurant. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Ignore the outside of the restaurant which looks a bit run down as the inside is fantastic. Only the red wines could have been better as they lacked flavour.

First visit to this restaurant and we were not disappointed. Very friendly and attentive staff who make you feel at ease when going over the extensive menu to find out what all the dishes entail. The decor is how you imagine a typical Italian restaurant to be, the table settings are basic no frills or tablecloths which would in my opinion would have enhanced the restaurant greatly. The wine list has a large selection with varying prices. The food was really delicious, I had the deep fried calzone to start which was very large but very very tasty. For the main course I had the gnocchi with Italian sausage and again it was well cooked and presented. I had just enough room for tiramisu which was one of the best I've tried in Eastbourne. All in all a great meal and will look forward to going again with friends

Went in February for my birthday .Was surprised to see a birthday balloon and card had been put on our table, thought this was such a kind gesture. We all enjoyed our meals and had such a good evening. The family who own this restaurant are such kind, warm friendly people. You don't get the welcome you get here in other restaurants in Eastbourne.

Under the previous incarnation - La Cantina - the restaurant never quite worked. It was cold in winter and the entrance was dark and uninviting. The couple who ran it were lovely and it was a shame that they coud not get it to work.
Under the new owners, a Neopolitan family, the atmosphere and warmth are there for all to see. Lia works front of house, while mum and dad slave away in the upstairs kitchen. Lia's fiancée works the pizza oven and keeps the customers happy. The menu is varied and includes recipes passed down through the generations of her family.
