I have now been involved with 2 functions at The Afton Hotel. I would recommend it as a venue for your function. It's so welcoming, very clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful, and very importantly it has air conditioning which adds so much to the enjoyment. Fab place!

The Afton is a perfectly good hotel, a bit dated but very clean. It caters more to the older guest.

What is exceptional about this hotel is the manager. I had called to book a room a week before I arrived.. a very busy time as it was the Tennis championship. When I arrived there was some confusion about my booking and it had not been processed into the system. The person on duty allowed me to stay the first night even though I wasn't on the system, so I could sort with the manager in the morning. The manager went out of her way to accommodate me. For part of my week's stay I stayed at the Afton, and when she was physically unable to find a room for me, she ensured another hotel nearby would provide a room at the same price. And it was a very reasonable price she had agreed.

I would highly recommend this hotel for the service and friendliness they provide. I stay at many hotels for work purposes and this one stood out for this reason. I would definitely stay again.

I would highly recommend

Stayed at the Afton in May with my Partner and Daughter. All the staff were very welcoming which made our stay enjoyable. Hotel was clean, although room was quite small and slightly tired looking, however it was quiet, comfortable and only for one night. Breakfast was average but with a reasonable choice for both adults and children. Hotel was very near seafront and Manager gave us a parking token for less than £2 for 24 hours so that was a bonus.

Overall it was a pleasant stay and hotel was acceptable for the price we paid.

Our stay at the Afton Hotel was excellent. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our double room was very spacious, nicely decorated and clean. The full English breakfast and the 3 course dinners were delicious. Entertainment is provided in the bar every night. The hotel is in a great location; opposite the Pier, in walking distance to the High Street and Devonshire Park. I would strongly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Perfectly located within 1 minutes walk of the pier and beach. Just 5 minutes from the centre of town where there are lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. It is about 1.5 miles along the beach to the beginning of Beachy Head.
There was parking right outside hotel and a parking permit can be purchased for £1 per day from the hotel.
The hotel is a bit dated, but the friendly staff and the lovely English Breakfast more than make up for that.
Drinks prices at the bar are standard pub prices and there was entertaiment in the evening.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and if we return to the area we would definitely stay here again. For £60.00 per night for 2 peaople in a double room, it is a bargain.

We stated at the afton for weekend break, the staff are wonderful and couldn't be more help ful , the bar area is lovely and inviting and always someone around , now for the few downer bits sadly, the shower as stated in other reports , is more a dribble, ladies with long hair opt for a salon then trying to wash it in there, breakfast is very dated , names on tables,?? I think it could realy be getting with the times a bit maybe visit the cavendish for ideas. The rooms are clean with fresh lining but there is a inch wide of dust around edge of carpet and skirting, not very nice, this is no reflection on hotel but on head of house keeping, and wow it's 2013 a guy with a key board??? People over 60 do like some young variaty to, contact your local college invite young entertainment in and great on your budget, we would use hotel again it's a shame these little things are there but so easily corrected xx

Well run budget hotel and you get what you pay for. Beds comfy and room fine, bathroom dated and overheated! Could not control the thermostat. Breakfast not to my taste. Not cooked well enough. bacon was a bit underdone. Staff excellent. The only real downside was, and it was no reflection on the hotel, was the noise outside. We had a room that overlooked the pier and as it was the weekend suffered noisy groups leaving the pier at 3am. Sleep was impossible.

I stayed here for two nights on a business trip. The hotel is clean and well run in a good location for the beach etc. I had a single room at a very cheap rate. In terms of value for money it is a good deal. However my room was small and a little shabby. Breakfast is the usual fare. For a budget traveller this is clearly a good hotel. It seems mainly geared up to coach groups and an elder clientele though.
Staff were all friendly and helpful.

For £30/night you can't expect a lot. Small room in a nice location.
Breakfast was average but with very limited time (8-9 am). The service was good and everything was clean.
Main issue in this hotel is the elevator, it's slow and at peak times (breakfast and dinner time) you need to wait as much as 10 minutes for it.

Booking the hotel on bookings.com after reading the reviews on trip advisor.
It certainly lived up to our expectations. All the staff very friendly and our room had a great view of the pier and most important the sea.
Definitely worth a return visit.
Excellent value for money.

Booked this hotel after reading Trip Advisor reviews. All the good things that have been said previously I found to be true. There was no kettle in my room when I arrived - tea, coffee but no kettle, presumably taken by the previous occupant. When I queried at Reception they immediately found me one. You can tell it is not a big chain, the staff are very personable

I was suprised at the size of the Bar and Restaurant - I expected smaller. The breakfast I found excellent. We kept the window open for fresh air and despite it being a Saturday found no problems with noise from the Pier - maybe it is worse in peak summer time.

The shower was a little small, but the water hot and it worked well. We have stayed at a number of hotels in Eastbourne, and of the cheaper ones this undoubtedly the best

We stayed at the Afton for a weekend in Eastbourne and very much enjoyed our stay. The room was fine, smallish but not unduly so and the bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly and the Afton represented very good value for money: recommended.

Sent my in- laws to this hotel as a Birthday Surprise. They had stayed here on previous occasions and always enjoyed themselves. We paid £240 for a four day break bed and breakfast which is extremely good value. The room was of a high quality and breakfast was very enjoyable. Special thanks to Jason and his staff who made them feel really special.

Also stayed at The Afton Hotel on an Easter coach break. Given the reasonable costs, excellent service and great location of the hotel, I sometimes think I have fallen amongst 'professional grumblers' when I hear fellow-holiday-makers grumbling about hotel deals like this. What more could anyone want or expect for such reasonable cost? I don't have any complaints and would definitely stay at The Afton again, on a similar break.

Stayed at this hotel over the Easter as part of a Coach Holiday - central location by the Pier. Entertainment every night. Good food and outstanding service. Would definately return and would recommend.

We booked into the Hotel on March 21st for a 3 night break to celebrate our wedding
anniversary. From the minute we arrived, nothing was too much trouble.
We had a lovely clean room overlooking the seafront and the Pier, a hospitality tray with a selection of hot drinks was waiting for us in the room.We stayed at the hotel for breakfast and
evening meal on each day and the meals were of excellent variety and the dining room staff were
most polite and helpful when explaining what was available on the menu. Evening entertainment
completed each day to round off a really wonderful break. Our complements go to Jason and Fiona for making our weekend break a very pleasant one. Would we go back to the Afton Hotel,
the answer to that is definitely YES. Thanks from Mr & Mrs Humber from Swadlincote Derbys.

My wife and I stayed at the Afton for a few days last week, unfortunately for us we had to leave a few days early. Everybody at the Hotel were happy to help, both Wife and I are disabled, from Marco (the Boss), Jason and Fiona (hope that's right, sorry I lost the list of names I asked for). Food was excellent, our compliments to the Chef(s), and enough of it! The young lady who cleaned or room was very helpful, our room was clean, tidy and warm. Shower was Hot and Strong, Toilet clean and safe.

Spent a .long weekend with a group of line dancing friends Hotel very comfortable staff very efficient, meals varied. Entertainment one night only, the rest of the evenings composed of line dancing. We had a good welcome and the rooms were clean and comfortable and warm which was very necessary as we had unusual snow for March.

We stayed here for 4 nights because it was dog friendly and very well priced. Even after complaints from some clients about one of our dogs, the management were very accomodating in offering us a different room in a quieter part of the hotel. Food was good and bar very reasonably priced. Lovely hotel and location, and we would definitely return and recommend. Apologies to anyone disturbed by the dog barks.
