During periods of economic downturn, such as the recent recession, many people are reluctant to give away any extra money they may have to charitable causes or organisations.

However, in reality, it is precisely during times of financial problems that our local charities need us most.

Charities, community organisations and volunteer projects operate across Chelmsford and wider area aiming to provide help and support to those who need it most during times of hardship.

This Summer, why not take a few pounds off your holiday spending money and donate it to a favoured charity? Why not have a whip round at the office or organise a charity dress down day at work? Hold a charity event or fundraising day at your home or business?

We take a quick look at some of the charities that support people in and around Chelmsford, carrying out essential work, come rain or shine every day of the year:

Kids Inspire was founded in 2007 with the aim of providing innovative ways of helping local children and young people in trouble.

Chelmsford MenCap provide local support for the families, friends and carers of people with learning disabilies.

The Rotary Club in Wickford has been helping local and international charitable organisations through a variety of projects and fundraising initatives for over 50 years.

Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford cares for people with cancer or other life limiting diseases and provides support to their friends and families.
