Want the Best Pub Grub in Brighton? Head to Hanover.

I love a bit of pub grub. Nothing beats eating out affordably in a cosy public house atmosphere, all while not doing the washing up. Whilst living in Hanover, I discovered that this area is brilliant for pub food. There are so many pubs to choose from in the area and they all offer better quality food and a calmer atmosphere than the town centre. Here are my top suggestions.

1) The Geese, Southover Street. Recently redeveloped and under new ownership, this place is painted in crisp whites and greens with flowers on the wooden tables. When the shutters are open in summer, it’s a lovely place to spend the afternoon. And their Sunday Roast? Delish. They also have a beer and burger deal on Wednesdays for £6, which sounds like a winner to me!

2) The Hanover, Queen’s Park Road. The Hanover has both a dining section and chilled out sofa areas with lower tables and a casual atmosphere. Their stone-baked pizzas are to die for! Sold at similar prices to chain pizza places, The Hanover’s are a much better quality, especially the Classic Pollo pizza, which is my recommendation...yummmm.

3) The London Unity, Islingword Road. Also known as ‘The Curry Pub’, this place is a firm favourite of mine. With little fairy lights hanging up and big chunky tables, The London Unity is small and perfectly formed. The menu is where this pub gets its nickname – it offers an extremely wide range of curries, all offered in lamb, chicken, and vegetable. NUS discounts are offered on a Thursday, but to be honest at around £7.95 for a curry and a pint every night of the week anyway, this place is a steal whether you’re a student or not.

4) The Pub With No Name, Southover Street. Also owned by The Indigo Pub Company (who seem to run all my favourite spots in Brighton!), The Pub With No Name is infamous for its Sunday roasts. As well as the usual offerings (beef, pork, lamb) there are often more alternative options available, antelope being the most bizarre I’ve seen! With a deep red interior and a Mexican weekday menu, this place combines cosy local with quality dinners.

My advice? Try them all!
