THIS WEEK IN BRIGHTON AND HOVE

It’s week two of the lively, innovative, diverse Brighton Festival and there are some great things going on over the next seven days.

One of the more unusual events is The Company of Wolves, a “promenade theatre adventure” taking place in Stanmer Park from May 7-9.  Based on Angela Carter’s imaginative story, the tale will unfold as you walk or run along the route (which will be between two and five miles long, depending on the path you choose).  It starts at 8.30pm so bring a torch or head torch and wear suitable footwear.  Tickets are £15 plus booking fee. More info on www.brightonfestival.org/event/5847/the_company_of_wolves/

If you love books, quizzes and tea you’ll adore the children’s book quiz at the Sallis Benney Theatre on Sunday afternoon. The Just William Tea Party Quiz will find out just how much you know about children’s books, and there’s a special round on the Just William books. It’s suitable for ages 7 plus, with a maximum of six on a team. More www.brightonfestival.org/event/5931/the_just_william_tea_party_quiz/

May 9 is the launch of B.O.A.T, the Brighton open air theatre, and it’s kicking off with a gala night featuring Jo Neary, Simon Evans and many more.  The theatre’s first main production is Romeo and Juliet, by the Globe Theatre on Tour, from May 13, with the theatre promising to reveal details of its first full season next week. For more details, see www.brightonopenairtheatre.co.uk.

Did your kids love taking part in the Mini Mile races before the Brighton Marathon? If they have caught the running bug – or would simply like to have a go at running for the first time – then they can take part in Brighton’s first Junior Parkrun in Preston Park on Sunday.

Starting at 9am, it’s a free 2k run for 4-14 year olds of all abilities. The run is timed so children can try to beat their personal best every week. If the kids want to know their time, you do need to register beforehand - you’ll  be given a barcode which you need to print and bring along on the day.  If you can’t make this Sunday, don’t worry as it will take place in the park every Sunday at the same time. www.parkrun.org.uk/prestonpark-juniors/
