THIS WEEK IN BRIGHTON AND HOVE...
It’s Pride Weekend! This weekend marks Pride’s 25th anniversary, and to celebrate, the colourful, vibrant parade has a theme of “Carnival of Diversity”. The parade starts at Hove Lawns at 11am and around 160,000 people are expected to either take part or watch it. Other Pride events include the main festival in Preston Park, with acts including The Human League, Fatboy Slim and The Freemasons. There are other stages, a funfair, stalls, community areas and tents too. Outside the park, there’s the Pride Arts and Film Festival and the Pride Village Party in St James's Street/Marine Parade on both Saturday and Sunday. http://www.brighton-pride.org/
Have you missed football during the close season? There’s just over a week to go before hostilities recommence in both the Premier and football leagues. Brighton are hosting a prestigious pre-season friendly at the Amex on Sunday against Sevilla, with kick off at 4pm. More information and tickets on http://www.seagulls.co.uk/
The Old Market theatre is staging The Spooky Men's Chorale on Sunday. The group, from the Blue Mountains in Australia, mixes Georgian harmonies with ballads and a good deal of silliness. The Spookies formed in 2001 and this is their sixth visit to the UK. Their last tour, two years ago, saw them playing to sell-out audiences. http://theoldmarket.com/shows/the-spooky-mens-chorale/
Enjoy an urban foraging walk on Sunday, starting at Dyke Road Café. The two hour walk through the parks and streets of Brighton will introduce you to the laws and pitfalls of foraging. You’ll also be shown how to identify and locate up to 20 foods that you can safely forage. It’s £10 a head for adults - more information on http://whatson.brighton.co.uk/event/Urban%20Foraging%20Walk/02%20Aug%202015
