THIS WEEK IN BRIGHTON AND HOVE...

It’s National Paralympic Day on Saturday, and Brighton is one of only three cities where you will be able to have a go at some Paralympic sports and activities. Paralympic medallists Will Bayley and Ben Quilter (a Brightonian), will be there for a chat, and there will be Q&A sessions too. The free event is taking place in Jubilee Square from 10am to 5pm.  https://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/event/national-paralympic-day

Join a seawater tour on Sunday (11am) to discover how the sea has drawn people to our city for centuries. You’ll find out about, among other things, the piers, bath houses and the aquarium, while enjoying lovely sea views. You don’t need to book – just meet opposite the Volk’s Railway Station on Madeira Drive. Tours are running until the end of August. Prices: £7 adults, £6 concessions.  http://www.jackiemarsh-hobbs.co.uk/

The school holidays start today so you’re probably wondering what on earth to do with the kids for the next six weeks. Brighton Museum has a “Go Wild” event which lasts the entire holidays. The children will be able to pick up an Amazing Animal trail and find out some fascinating facts about creatures from around the world. The trail is free. Entrance to the museum itself is free to Brighton and Hove residents – bring ID.  http://brightonmuseums.org.uk/brighton/whats-on-2/#go-wild

The Open Market is also celebrating the start of the school summer holidays so bring the youngsters along to enjoy Children’s Day on Friday. There’s a theme of “Under the Sea”, with workshops, craft activities, films, face painting, a treasure hunt and more. Kids will be able to bounce on the bouncy castle, go wild in the soft play area and have a go on a giant connect 4 game. Children can come dressed up and the event is free. It’s all happening from 10.30am-3.30pm.
