THIS WEEK IN BRIGHTON AND HOVE...

From Friday evening, Brighton’s seafront will become an open air cinema for the next month when it screens a host of family favourites and other classics. The giant screen, close to Brighton Pier, will show three movies a day ranging from the Goonies to Paddington. The Chilli Pickle will be providing food at its pop-up restaurant close by. The green space at Brighton’s Waterhall will again host the city’s Shakedown festival this Saturday. Last year more than 200,000 music lovers listened to their favourite sounds at the event which is celebrating its fifth birthday. For ticket prices and more information see www.shakedown.co.uk

The Brighton Big Dog, an annual mountain biking event, returns to the muddy trails and tree-lined paths of Stanmer Park this weekend. This year’s event is being staged over two days starting on Saturday. One of its highlights is a six hour race which begins at noon. A women’s only race has been introduced for the first time this year too. The event will appeal to everyone from children as to experienced riders. For more details, visit www.brightonbigdog.com

An exciting show for children, a fun, interactive journey with songs and dancing. The story is about a girl named Milly and the adventures she has with her favourite toy, 'Rainy Day Bear'. Together, they visit the 'Jelly Bean Jungle', the 'Sea of the Seven Stripy Saucers' and the 'Curly Coloured Cake Castle'. The show also incorporates well-known children’s songs that the audience can join in with.
