THIS WEEK IN BRIGHTON AND HOVE:

It’s Brighton marathon weekend! Stand by for excitement, endeavour, charity fund raising, strange costumes, road closures and sore muscles. The kids kick it all off on Saturday, with more than 2,000 expected to take part in 17 mini-mile races in Preston Park. On Sunday, there’s a 10k at 8.30am before European Championship gold medallist Jo Pavey fires the starting gun for the marathon at 9.15am. Read more on www.brightonmarathon.co.uk

Want to raise money for charity by testing yourself to the limit, but find 26 miles just a few steps too far? Mencap is organising a Firewalk at Brighton Marina on Friday night (6-9pm). You’ll be given expert guidance to prepare you for walking over hot embers which reach up to 1234 degF. No previous experience is necessary. There’s a £20 registration fee and you’ll be asked to raise at least £100 in sponsorship. See more on https://www.mencap.org.uk/firewalk

The Emporium in London Road is hosting Seaside Celluloid, a mini film festival, from Friday to Sunday. The festival celebrates Brighton in film and is being run in conjunction with Bijou Electric Empire Forever. Films on show include Mona Lisa, Me Without You and Quadrophenia. See the full programme and book on http://emporiumbrighton.com/
