The summer holidays are upon us and it’ll not be long before the kids start to get board or be wanting to go on new adventures. So we’ve put together a few ideas for great affordable family days out for this Summer Holidays to help you along the way....

Children’s Day at Brighton Open Market

Friday 24th July - 10.30am - 3.30pm

Free entry.

This under the sea themed event is great for the first week of the summer holidays with lots of free activities for children of all ages. There is going to be free craft stations, free face painting, soft play (free), a bouncy castle (50p), a selection of children’s themed craft and makers stalls, films (free), a treasure hunt (free), competitions and lots more! Come along dressed as a mermaid, pirate or your favorite sea creature to be entered into the best dressed competition. Have a go at making your own sea creature and eat in one of the markets cafes who are putting on special kids sea themed menus. There is also goody bags for the first 100 kids, and the venue is under cover so you’ve no need to worry about getting wet!

Build Big – Electric Circuit Art! Curiosity Hub workshop

July 30th 10am - 12pm

Cornerstone Community Centre, Hove.

In this workshop, students will learn about the science of electric circuits and create their own light-up pop-up cards and paper origami animals featuring LEDs to take home.

Brighton’s Big Screen

August 14th - August 25th (various screen times)

Brighton Beach (just East of the pier)

Free daytime showings. Evening tickets from £3.

Brighton’s Big Screen open air beachfront cinema is back and looks set to take outdoor cinema viewing to a whole new level. There is lots of family films showing over the summer including Frozen Sing-a-longs, The Lion King, Paddington, 101 Dalmatians, Toy Story 3 and lots more.

The Fairy Tale Fair

Saturday 15th August 10.30am - 5pm

Brighton Open Market, London Road

Free entry.

This family friendly whimsical craft and vintage fair is back at Brighton Open Market with its last fair until the winter. The centre of the market will be taken over with 20 of The Fairy Tale Fair’s stall holders including crafts, vintage, clothing, jewellery, illustration, homemade bakes and chocolates, gifts, cards and pocket money buys. There will also be a performance from Brighton Lindyhoppers troop at 11.30am and magical face painting all day. Don’t forget to explore the markets permanent shops, cafes and studios while you visit - there are some exciting things happening at the market over the summer!

Flyaway Katie – Long Nose Puppets at The Old Market

August 23rd 11am and 2pm

The Old Market, Hove

Flyaway Katie is an inspiring flight of fancy about the power of imagination based on the popular children’s book by Polly Dunbar with music by Tom Gray of Gomez.

Katie is all alone and feeling grey,  The birds in the picture on her wall look so colourful and exciting – if only Katie could be as bright and as free as them, who knows what might happen?  The show is bursting with colour, movement and surprises, with puppets of varying scales acting the story.

Brighton Mini Maker Faire is back for a fifth year, and we’re bigger, better and more inventive than ever!

As the biggest Maker Faire in the South of England, we bring together makers from all over the country to show their projects, share their passion for building and creating, and inspire visitors to have a go at making things themselves.
