Double Impact Awards for the City

The city is celebrating two local charities winning £30,000 each in the 2014 GSK IMPACT Awards. Run in partnership with The King’s Fund, they will also access training, development and networking opportunities.

From 400 applicants nationally, 2 of the 10 winners are from Brighton & Hove. It must be the sea air!

RISE , our local domestic abuse charity stood out for innovative partnership work training local ambulance staff to better recognize signs of abuse and respond safely.

Gail Grey, RISE Chief Executive said “Our work with health professionals will hopefully now, through implementation of the recent NICE guidance on domestic violence training, be embedded across the health sector. This is a real boost to celebrate our 20th Anniversary!”

AMAZE, working with families across Brighton and Hove, were recognised to improve the health and well-being of disabled children but also their parent carers.

Rachel Travers, Amaze CEO said: ‘Many of the families we support are struggling to cope and are financially and socially excluded. Often the parent carer experiences poor physical or mental health too which gets put to the bottom of their ‘to do list’ as they have so many other worries.”

Sally Polanski, CEO of Brighton and Hove Community Works said “ It is fantastic to have Rise and Amaze’s hard work and valued services recognised. They shine a light on our city’s exemplary voluntary and community sector by bringing home two of the ten GSK community awards. An outstanding achievement.”

The two charities will meet at a Gala Fundraising in May where an overall winner will be chosen to receive a further £10,000 of funding.
