Devil's Dyke: A breath of fresh air

If you’re craving a day out that doesn’t break the bank, I’d recommend taking the bus up to Devil’s Dyke. The number 77 runs roughly once an hour (check here for times) between the Pier and Devil’s Dyke, and a walk in the countryside is a perfect revision distraction during exam term.

Sit at the top and admire the South Downs, or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous run down to the bottom and then try to hike your way back up. It’s certainly a workout for your legs, and good fun too.

Take a picnic along to save the student budget, or The Devil’s Dyke is a charming country pub right by the bus stop. Its food menu is enough to tempt me in, but the promise of warm cosy armchairs would surely tip the balance for everyone!

If you’ve got your own transport and some extra cash, Orb360 run zorbing sessions at Devil’s Dyke Farm, just up the road from the dyke itself. Jump into a giant inflatable ball and roll your way round an obstacle course- I’m told it’s great fun...but not for the faint hearted!

A visit to Devil's Dyke is free day out in Brighton and Hove with a refreshing countryside twist. No forward planning is required, so as soon as it's sunny, jump on the 77.
