Some of what you can see...

By land and sea

The architecture and the sea are probably the two most defining images of Brighton to have inspired local artists over the years and many of those exhibiting at the fourth Brunswick Town Art Fair have chosen to focus on these elements in their work.

Brunswick Corinthian

The Doric columns of Brunswick Square inspired local artist Ian Hodgson’s Brunswick Corinthian image. The picture possesses an etherial quality blending the famous columns with the leaves of the acanthus plant to make a dramatic and arresting image.

Costa del Brighton!

Miguel-Ángel Ibarz Serraclara will also be showing his stunning watercolours of Brighton which show the city in a whole new light…. some of our iconic buildings showered in sunshine - very continental and Spanish looking…!

Regency Town House hosts a mixture of Morris, Mackintosh, memories and stories…

The Regency Town House in Brunswick Square is hosting the work of two local artists Shyama Ruffell and Carola del Mese at the art fair.

Shyama Ruffell describes her work as “a cocktail of William Morris, Mackintosh and Rousseau in an English meadow, with a splash of Klimpt and a squeeze of Jungle Book.”

Carola del Mese’s work uses elements rescued from flea markets and found in junk shops - small tokens which may have meant something to someone. Objects she can make stories from yet she never quite knows what the result will be when she starts.

“It’s important to me that I use items with a previous history,” she says. “I rarely know exactly what I will make when I begin. Each piece starts as an uncertain idea, and the finished item is often a surprise, the creative process moulding the piece and giving it life as it emerges.”

Along with over 50 other artists, Ian, Carola and Shyama’s fascinating work will be on show at the Brunswick Town Art Fair.

The event is sponsored by Angel House, Cameron Contemporary Art, Gerard Maye Legal, Justin Lloyd Estate Agents, La Cave à Fromage, Hot Hedz, Chariot House chartered accountants, V&H Cafe, The Regency Town House and media support by thebestof Brighton and Hove.
