Brighton’s Big Screen is back with a Summer movie bonanza!

28 July – 28 August 2017

Brighton’s world famous beach will take centre stage this summer to screen an amazing line-up of blockbuster movies.

A huge HD quality screen will play more than 90 sizzling films over 32 days including ‘La La Land’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Moana’, ‘Jaws’,‘T2 (Trainspotting)’, ‘Logan’, and ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’.

It’s the 6th year that Big Beach Screen Events (BBSE) has hosted the summer event - Europe’s largest outdoor cinema - and the organisers say this year’s line-up is bigger and better than ever.

The month-long film extravaganza kicks off on Friday 28 July with a screening of BAFTA and Oscar award winner ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, starring Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston, followed by ‘Kong: Skull Island’, staring Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L Jackson and Brie Larson.

The event, which was attended by 75,000 last year, is then officially launched on Saturday 29 when legendary BBC 6 DJ Gilles Peterson takes the stage for a day long film and music festival.

Gilles will be accompanied by music producer and DJ, MC Earl Zinger and a host of bands and musicians including Freak Power (originally founded by Norman Cook, AKA Fatboy Slim), who have reformed especially for this summer.

Three films will then be shown each day on the 40-square metre cutting edge LED screen, which will be located on the beach just seconds from the Palace Pier - the perfect cinema screen backdrop.

On Sunday 30, BBSE will be hosting one of the semi-finals of the British Street Food awards, and to get the filmgoers taste buds tingling, four laugh-out-loud movies will be screened - Ratatouille, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Willy Wonka and Chef.

There will then be an unbroken run of movie madness until Saturday 26 August, when BBSE will screen iconic 70s classic Quadrophenia, which includes a live Q&A with stars of the film, including leading man Phil Daniels.

This will be followed by a performance and 60s themed video show by ‘Who’s Next’, widely regarded to be the #1 Who tribute band, and a DJ set from Drew Stanstall (ex-member of ska legends, The Specials).

The fantastic movie month finishes on Bank Holiday Monday (28 August) with showings of ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’.

BBSE Managing Director Bill Murray said: “We’re Europe’s largest outdoor cinema and are screening almost 100 classic films on Brighton’s famous beach. Anyone coming along is guaranteed an amazing time.”
