The Brighton Treasure Hunt Company offers an unmissable chance to learn more about the city’s vibrant history. The company provide the clues, the team badges, the pens and the prizes, so bring some friends, a thirst for hometown history, a little competitive spirit and you’re all set!

On a sunny Wednesday evening, I set out with some classmates to discover more about the city I’d lived in for three years. The ‘North Laine’ section of the hunt showed me where The Body Shop began, taught me about Regency architecture and confirmed that I’d been walking around this lovely part of town with my head down and blinkers on.

After a drink to recharge, we set out on Part Two, the ‘South Lanes’ section. We wandered along the seafront at sunset looking for sculptors’ names and reluctantly left the beach to answer questions about the clock tower and Ship Street.

Although admittedly our course organisers kindly paid for our places, a little search around the Brighton Treasure Hunt Company website shows the hunts are both varied and affordable. Downloadable ones are available for those on a tighter budget, or for a special occasion you can opt for a bespoke one!

As it turns out, Brighton is littered with plaques and crests dedicated to past celebrities and notable figures that make our city the colourful, forward-thinking place it is today. You just have to know where to look, and that’s where the Brighton Treasure Hunt Company comes in.

Enjoy!
