Had a lovely break with my friend. Some minor disappointments due to poor staff management but all resolved. I would not have paid full price for the evening meal but as it was included in our deal, not a problem. Star staff member for us was a wonderful, friendly and helpful member of the housekeeping team.

Ideal location for us, great room. Room excellent. Staff very helpful Would prefer if spa guests did not wear robes in the bar. The taxi we ordered as recommended by hotel was a disgrace, old, rusty, dirty and not at all acceptable when one is dressed to go to a fancy restaurant. Also, 30 minute wait to order breakfast, although we only paid for one of the two breakfasts as a gesture of goodwill by staff

First impressions of this place were incredibly mixed. Whilst it is tucked away in some beautiful surroundings, there is now a huge housing development across from the car park - which is now the view from the Hydrotherapy Pool.

Check in was simple, and incredibly welcoming. The staff member on check-in desk allowed us to access our room an hour early. Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there.

We had coffee prior to accessing the spa and were greeted by a bar full of glasses from the night before. The male staff member who served us was not the most attentive and not the greatest at making coffee.

We ventured from the spa to the bar restaurant to have some lunch, and chose to sit outside in the sun. The lunch menu is not vast, and so we decided to just settle for a sandwich and chips as we were booked in for an evening meal later on. It was £25 for two sandwiches and two portions of chips (chips were £4.50 per bowl which is a surprise as I am convinced we are not in a potato famine.)

My partner's food came smothered in mayonnaise as the same knife had been used to cut both sandwiches. A clear allergies no-no! My Cajun chicken sandwich was billed as being served on ''farmhouse granary'' but unfortunately was nothing of the sort. I would describe the bread as stale, supermarket own brand wholemeal. The sandwich was bland and looked like it had been thrown together.

No follow up check was completed on the food which was dubbed as my fault as I chose to sit somewhere they do not usually serve food - but it was agreed we could eat there. The issue here was not exactly with the follow up check, but how the plates were then left a further 30 minutes in the baking sun attracting all sorts of wildlife - who knew wasps loved stale wholemeal bread?!

I therefore went inside to speak to the supervisor to address the concerns. He informed me he would speak to the head chef and I asked whether this feedback could then be brought to me out of courtesy. He came back to me and informed me that the head chef was far from happy with this and was going to speak to the other individual in the kitchen. I think it was this point where alarm bells rung if kitchen staff are not privy to what knife to use to cut a sandwich. However, I must say that at this point, the supervisor kindly offered to refund the food and would pass on these concerns to the restaurant supervisor for our meal this evening. I appreciated the feedback and offer of a refund.

The spa facilities were extremely clean and welcoming. However, I must again mention that the relaxing backdrop of the Hydrotherapy Pool is now a looming crane and diggers chugging past - I tried to reassure myself that this was a truly reflective holiday resort experience. One of the spa rooms was out of order unfortunately, and my attention focused largely on the Aroma Grotto (that is its real name). We had seen various couples venture in here only to leave approximately 7 seconds later. Out of sheer curiosity, we had to check it out. It became apparent immediately as to why the visits were so brief: this Grotto houses an aroma not immensely dissimilar to a urinal block with a faint hint of sewage. I am open to many things, but being relaxed by an aroma of bodily waste is not on my list.

Despite this, we lounged by the pool for a number of hours. Dipping in and out and reading. My partner did have a back and neck massage which was fantastic and a real highlight of the stay.

The room was lovely and spacious with a bath and shower. The shower was dated despite the rest of the room being modern. Overall, the bedroom facilities were lovely and the bed was extremely comfy.

This then brings me to dinner which was perhaps one of the oddest dining experiences of my life. Upon arrival to the bar, two staff greeted us (and these were the most attentive staff in the entire place who consistently went above and beyond. Their names escape me but they were two young girls.) It had come to light that they heard about our lunch time dining experience and informed us that they had ''heard all about us.'' Upon reflection I now see the funny side of this, but at the time was taken aback by what appears to be a lapse of professionalism on the supervisors part.

We were seated promptly. Orders were taken and starters arrived rather quickly. Starters were nice and tasty with decent portions. Once finished, mains arrived quickly once the plates been taken and this is where the confusion began. My partner’s steak was incorrect and had to be taken back to be rectified so I was left eating on my own for a while. I ordered beef ragu and what greeted me can only be described as gravy pasta. It was a nondescript, brown coloured sauce with peas and carrots in. There were bits of beef in, but it was largely fatty. My understanding of a ragu is a rich, tomato-based sauce stirred through the pasta with hearty pieces of meat running through it. I can only describe it as Sunday dinner left overs plopped on some anaemic pasta. I left most of it. However, a huge plus that my partner's meal came back great and we successfully ate our meals at separate times.

To add to the ambience of ''whatever goes'', the table beside us had begun to tuck in to their starters when only a mere 3 minutes later they were brought their main meals. The flustered waiter stood there with two plates and uttered ''are you finished with your starters?'' To which the pair responded ''we have not even started them.'' The main meals were returned to the kitchen.

When the waiter attended our table to clear away our plates, I asked whether it was actually gravy on pasta. He informed me he was not sure, but did admit that this meal was the most returned, most left, and most thrown away. I was flabbergasted at this and just thought to myself: ''change it then?''

As we left the restaurant we were asked by the supervisor how things were. I advised that one meal had to be returned and therefore we ate at different times which was not ideal. I also queried my meal and confirmed that it simply seemed to be gravy and pasta. I was reassured that it was indeed a tomato-based sauce which is slow cooked. I confirmed that it did not have a single hint of tomato and resembled a Sunday lunch leftover. I was again hastily reassured that the food I had just consumed was not from Sunday leftovers (it was now Tuesday evening). I was informed I should have said something sooner and the whole dish could have been replaced. I explained how one meal had already been incorrect and I did not want to eat entirely on my own if waiting for a new meal. I also passed on the waiter’s comments which were not taken well...

We departed the next day after breakfast. Breakfast was very good with a lovely range of choice and not a gravy granule in sight (bonus).

Even after typing this review up, I still cannot make my mind up on my honestly reflection of this place. It has amazing potential but lacks in such simple things - not one staff member had a clue what was on the afternoon tea for example despite it being £22.70 per person with prosecco. The construction going on also ruins the atmosphere. Yes, rooms were comfy and the spa was enjoyable, but so much other necessities were lacking and vacant.

I would not stay again until these aspects are rectified.

The executive room was tired with several flaws. It was an expensive nights stay so we expected better. However the food was very nice and we enjoyed the leisure facilities as a family. The bar had also ran out of Diet Coke and didn’t stock J20’s either.

Arrived slightly early but room was ready for us. Lovely smelling toiletries in the room from the spa. Room was clean and a perfect temperature. We made use of the spa which was incredibly relaxing. It was a little busy in the afternoon but we got up early the following day and had it almost to ourselves. Great nights sleep and breakfast the next day was delicious. We’ll definitely be coming back.

Comfortable accommodation very pleasant staff Our bedroom was spacious and had a lovely view. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom almost looked new. The staff were exceedingly pleasant and helpful. There was no shaver socket in the bathroom which seemed unusual.

Unfortunately surprises left in your room from previous guests are never welcome! Definite concerns around standards of cleanliness.
On a positive the staff were professional and helpful and the food was lovely!

I found this booking originally on a discount site ( maybe wowcher I can’t remember ?). I then looked on the website and it was about 15£ more but With the promise Of glass Of wine on arrival, late check out early check in, free 10£ voucher. When we arrived none of this was mentioned and I completely forgot.. would have been a lovely experience to have a glass of wine as promised on arrival. The late checkout wasn’t allowed even though promised. I asked about the 10£ voucher and the rude receptionist on Tuesday morning ( older with glasses I think ) said it would be fine to use the card that has the room key in. Went to pay at the bar and was told I needed a voucher. Had to go back to the reception and queue again to get it? She clearly must have known.. when I was queuing there was 2 more people trying to check in and being refused early check in, the woman was also saying ‘ we don’t do the offer anymore for the wine’ even though it clearly says it online when booking and in the card for the room key! I booked through the website for these reasons and they were basically ignored.. generally the staff were ok. The younger girls on Monday eve in the bar were all lovely but in the day they were all a bit more rude. I ordered soup with bread and it took ages to come ( my partner had finished his) and then it came with no bread and I had to ask??. The spa was really nice and I would definatley come back for this reason. Unfortunely they wouldn’t let us in after we checked out as I asked if there was anywhere to put my bag, but we had checked out 5 mins ago and if I didn’t say anything we could have just gone right in.. we were looking forward to it- this should be more clear when you arrived - properly explained!?? Also we shoul have had late check out which would have prevented this. The room was very nice but the bathroom had hairs all over the wall! It was lovely overall And I had a lovely time, but the staff behaviour on the checkout day brought it down a bit sadly

This hotel is let down badly in the the food is atrocious and the restaurant service leaves a lot to be desired. The staff were friendly enough however they missed out any training or systems. The food as described on the menu was not served. Had to send two meals back. As they were tasteless and not as described. Breakfast was awful and not paid for.

For us the layout was far too spread out which when you have a slightly immobile person in your party was completely inappropriate and this was not highlighted. Breakfast was not included and a charge of £16.50 per person I felt extortionate.

Stopped here on way back to Scotland. It's located on the outskirts of town with a housing estate being built in the grounds but that aside, the rooms were nice and the pool was perfect for a family swim. Food was overpriced. There's a lovely Italian does take away pizza and a delicious breakfast from 10am close by.

Would definitely stay again, great place, loved the spa and the facilities, would definitely recommend this place even after our sleepless nights, these things happen and we appreciate sometimes parties do get rowdy and out of hand.

Very good Had an amazing time everything was perfect and staff were lovely. The breakfast was a little over priced and tasteless for what it was, that was the only let down to the whole stay.
