I have just returned from a lovely 2 night spa break with my lovely friends. This hotel was amazing with such lovely staff. They were happy, friendly and they could not have done enough for us. Every single member of staff had a smile on their face and the service in the spa, restaurant, reception, lets just say everywhere was perfect. It was a very special weekend for us and the staff made our weekend extra special. The rooms were impeccable and the beds were extremely comfortable. We ate at the restaurant on both nights and the food was cooked and served to a very high standard. Thank you very much for such a lovely stay 😊

Arrived yesterday on arrival looked lovely . Check in was quick . Room big and clean but view of the roof ! Never mind off we went to the pool and jacuzzi . Steam room and spa both closed so a little disappointed. Booked meal in the restaurant . Paid extra for rump steak both me an my husband had it . Husbands was nice mine was tough as old boots . Waitress informed me that there meat delivery has been hit and miss some nice cuts of meat some not so nice ??
Ordered passion fruit cheesecake off the menu with coconut ice cream to be told the only had vanilla cheesecake and no coconut ice cream again due to suppliers … take it off the menu then !
Sat in bar for a few drinks which was very reasonable prices for a hotel . Got talking to a couple who had paid £116 for dinner B&B ( same board as us ) with a free bottle of Prosecco when we paid £150 ? Makes no sense !

Here for a while and the first thing that's comes over is the friendliness of staff. They do well in an environment that's busy and diverse.
Good reception staff and super fitness centre staff but the bar staff excel. My bar attendee was Elizabeth who goes the extra mile to help. Lovely pleasant woman who looked after us very well.

An old hotel in which some areas need badly refurbished but made up for through the excellent service.

We stayed at the dunkenhalgh 3 nights. The beds where very comfortable and rooms very clean and tidy, just a bit disappointed about paying so much and no robes in the wardrobe. On our last day we decided to have afternoon tea, presented beautifully, but cheap products used and bought in charged at premium prices. Dined in the cameo restaurant, and although the breakfast was amazing I can not say the same for our evening meal, again things bought in but charged at home made prices, also the menu seemed a bit confused not to sure on wether it was lunch or dinner. In all our stay was great we will definitely be going back and dinning the cameo resaurant again as everybody can have an off day. The staff are amazing shout out to Emily on reception, Aziz in the cameo restaurant, flynn the events organiser and Sam, Anne, jenna g, Andrea, and the young lady that did my French tip pedicure in the spa, you all made us feel so welcome and you all went above and beyond to make our stay memorable thankyou.

We stayed at the Dunkenhalgh to celebrate my wife's birthday.
The approach to the hotel is pleasing, the appearance of the stone building in the grounds is impressive. When you get inside and into the guest wings it is less impressive and at times confusing. The journey from reception to the executive wing is unclear and confusing because you pass through rooms that look like there shouldn't be a route through them. An outdoor covered corridor is unattractive and uninviting. Once we got to our adapted room though it was lovely. It has all the facilities for a disabled guest and was spacious and comfortable. There is a small lift to the first floor rooms.
Meals were very nice and staff were very helpful.
We booked through a Red Letter Days voucher, which added a little complication but nothing insurmountable.

Booked via booking.com. Over night stay with breakfast and use of pool. Checked in to this hotel with ease. Delighted to pay £50 less than what Booking.com quoted.

Hotel is old and tired in some places. This is to be expected with age and loss of bookings through 2020/2021. You can’t maintain a hotel if people can’t stay.

Beautiful grounds, ample parking and easy access from the motorway. It feels very grand.

The room we had was massive. Executive suite, two good sized beds. Wasn’t sure if King or double. Beds comfy, even the sofa bed was a good size.

My boys enjoyed running up and down in the room. Great size shower and bath. Clean, tidy and free tea, coffee and biscuits. TV massive in the room. Plenty of plug sockets and USB ports. Room was tired in some places, probably a leak at some point. Nothing that a lick of paint wouldn’t cover.

We didn’t have dinner, probably should have but we was advised that the menu is the same in restaurant as well as bar area.
Menu was reasonable a good 8/10. Probably could have done with a choice for tween who didn’t want kids menu but adult menu didn’t suffice. He had chicken supreme. Younger kids choice wasn’t too bad.

Staff polite, friendly and informative. Even let me order food at 8:30pm for my husband to be brought out at 9pm. My husband arrived at 9pm after closing our business and a 40 min drive.

The pool was used twice, warm, clean and the family change was airy and disability friendly.

Great choice for breakfast, buffet style.
Absolutely cannot fault our stay at all, thank you.

We had a lovely one night stay at the hotel on a Sunday night. After having had a rough journey in bad weather, we quickly got checked in, and then we were lucky to be well-looked after by a lovely lady called Anne in the spa bar area, who gave us a warm welcome, arranged us something to eat/drink and nothing was too much trouble, she made us feel at home.
The pool facility is great, we had a nice spacious and quiet room, and the dinner and breakfast during our stay was also good. The staff are all friendly and seem to try hard to do a good job and provide a good service. The hotel is very well-cleaned, and generally it all looks well.
We found our stay to be very good value, and we hope to return again!

We had a lovely spa visit with my daughters to celebrate my 60th birthday. We had a lovely time made more special by two workers Shailesh and Christopher in the food and hospitality section. Shailesh Did everything he could to arrange our cream tea, Christopher was really helpful and friendly during evening meal. He was attentive and assisted in any thing we asked for. It would be lovely if more people were like these two.
Thank you to you both.

We stayed for a night in one of the executive suites with an evening meal. The room was lovely and spacious. The evening meal was excellent. Providing hearty and tasty dishes. Shailesh was warm, friendly and attentive with nothing too much to ask for. Would stay again and eat in the restaurant.

The shared spaces in the hotel and spa needed a bit of upkeep but the room was huge and lovely and the restaurant (Christopher served us) was really nice and had really tasty food for all dietary needs.

We had an amazing stay here. Definitely recommend to our friends. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast and bar have very nice atmosphere. The room was amazing with one of the comfiest beds we’ve ever had in a hotel! We’ll be coming back to stay again soon.

It was quite nice. It was very old, but some parts like the resturaunt were done up to look modern.
It smelled a bit, when you walking into the lobby and near the stairs. It was really old so it smelled like old wood.
The room was nice, very clean. Nice veiw.
The bed were comfy and the staff were very nice, they weren't rude at all.
I was impressed by the food, but I was disappointed at the lack of Nutella packets Nutella at the breakfast buffet, but I liked the little jam jars. Good variety of muffins and croissants.
I think it's pretty but it could do with a bit of doing up and stuff.
It is a trek to get from your room the the resturaunt, ect. The pools nice, but it's cold. Even the jacuzzi was cold, it just had light bubbles..
Overall I would recommend it. I think it could be better if they tried, but it's nice:)

Stayed here for Valentines night, bed and breakfast. Check in was great, really friendly staff, fast check in. Our room was very spacious, decor and furniture nice, massive TV on the wall. Some marks on the walls etc but the room seemed very clean. the bathroom was very spacious, large shower and large bath. The shower grouting had some black spots which need attention. The bedroom had had a 'rough' paint job but overall we were very pleased with the room. The bed was large and comfortable and we slept very well. It was nice and quiet. It was a bit of hike to the restaurant and bar area from our room (403) not great if you have mobility issues.

The room had tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, robes and slippers and a decent hairdryer.

We used the gym which was ok. We also used the pool which was nice. The thermal suite was closed. We ate out at a restaurant and returned to the hotel for drinks however the bar area was full of dirty dishes were people had eaten at the bar area tables and the staff had failed to clean up so we had no choice but to sit at the only clear table by the entrance. When ordering a drink, another barman was finishing off some cocktails. He picked up the lime with tongs, put the lime on a dirty drinks tray (presuming it hadn't just been cleaned) and then grabbed the fruit with his hand and sliced it and then used the tongs to put the fruit on the edge of the cocktail glass. We thought this very unhygenic so I did not have a cocktail. We had one drink and a couple of tables were cleared of dirty dishes but nothing was wiped down so we got another drink and took it to our room as we thought it was cleaner.

We enjoyed our room and the use of the gym and spa but the bar area was a let down.

Breakfast was ok, not great in my opinion, not really scrambled eggs (were not pleasant). Tough sausage, cold, old plates. I did have some nice bacon and toast and mini coissant.

Overall, I wouldn't choose to return to this hotel to use the restaurant and bar areas.

Some areas of the hotel clearly need attention i.e. peeling paint etc.

Me and my boyfriend visited the dunkenhalgh hotel for a Valentine’s and birthday getaway for 2 nights, we were made very welcome and comfortable. In the restaurant chris, olivia, Ellena and Sara (the restaurant supervisor) all helped to make our Valentine’s night special and my boyfriends birthday even better, to finish our final night James worked on the bar to make some gorgeous cocktails whilst providing amazing customer service and a few laughs on the way… will definitely be visiting again

We were quite apprehensive about our stay here due to the mixed reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially James in the restaurant. I had paid for a superior room and emailed ahead to request a quiet room. The room was clean, beds comfortable and robes provided. Unfortunately the room had previously been an a joining room, door just boarded up and we could hear everything from the adjacent room. At 3am I was forced to go and knock on their door to ask for some peace. There were no staff on reception, but luckily the guests were very apologetic and everything went silent.
The evening meal was excellent, but breakfast dreadful, swimming pool was warm, it was a shame the spa facilities were not working but the hotel had notified us in advance of this so can’t complain about that.
The hotel and room in particular are cold. It’s an old building and has a faint smell of damp but is rather grand in many respects. For the money we paid we feel the one night stay was good value for money and would consider staying again as very conveniently located to family.

Just had the most wonderful relaxing weekend at Dunkenhalgh. The main building itself is historic and impressive. The room was large, comfortable, huge TV, tea/ coffee, nice bathroom. It felt a little cold at times and the radiators weren’t on but a small electric heater was provided in the room.
We had breakfast and dinner included. The quality of the food was exceptional. Huge compliments to the chefs working 5th and 6th Feb. Much better than I have experienced in other chain hotels. Hosting and table service was excellent – in particular, Olivia, James, Aziz and Joseph – very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
We had a couple of treatments at the Naturel Spa. The facilities including gym and pool area are excellent. Despite working under difficult conditions following flood damage, they have maintained a lovely relaxing spa feel in the alternative rooms that are being used for treatments. Again, the staff here were incredibly friendly and welcoming.
Would have no hesitation recommending this hotel and spa. We hope to stay again.
If the grounds the hotel is located in are owned by the company, my main suggestion for improvement would be to open up the grounds and create walking trails within them.

I recently went on a mystery tour with Slacks travel of Matlock. Our hotel was this one. It is an excellent hotel, they have a gym, spa etc . My room was a single room and was very nice. The restaurant and bar were great. The staff were very helpful and polite. The food was really good, particularly the buffet breakfast. I made use of the gym and found that to be as good as mainstream gyms.

Just checked out of this hotel and what a fabulous stay we had. The room was a lovely size, comfy bed, iron, ironing board, fridge, hairdryer, tea etc and coffee machine, lovely bathroom huge TV.

The spa was nice and next time I come I will definitely be getting a treatment.

The food was amazing, we had the 3 course and every dish was excellent!! Compliments to the chef, breakfast was gorgeous too, all you can eat, full breakfast, cereal, fruit, buns, crossaints, fresh juice and bucks fizz.

We will definitely be going back, from checking in to being served etc, all the staff were excellent and very helpful and all very hardworking.... thank you, an excellent stay.

Our only concern is that my wife wanted to have a sandwich one evening. She was informed that she could not sit in the bar and eat one, but could only obtain one on room service. We both find this hard to understand. We do not blame the staff, as presumably they were following the hotel's rules.

Perfect location out of the way but easy for getting around locally with access to good road networks. Staff very accommodating ,food excellent with a good choice for dinner and breakfast. Will stay again when in the area.

Gifted a spa break here for my Birthday. The parking charges on arrival were a little off putting but once in reception we were told there was no charge and advised to register our car Reg on the iPad. The hotel interior is showing signs of wear and tear and dated in some areas. Other areas, such as the restaurant were lovely and looked newly refurbished. The room was surprisingly very nice and again looked recently refurbished. Puzzled as to why the mattress in our room didn’t have a mattress protector on? They won’t last long without! Yet the stairs leading to the room was drab with peeling paint on the walls. The spa is basic - There’s a swimming pool and some treatment rooms, that’s it. The changing area were smelly and damp. One thing that stood out for me were the staff. They were all very welcoming & friendly. Big shout out to Joseph who served us in the bar area. He was really polite and nothing was too much trouble. Overall, you get what you pay for. It’s not a bad hotel if you get a good deal.
