This hotel is set in lovely grounds. We booked our stay directly with the hotel which proved to be better value than using any other booking site. The hotel was extremely well maintained and the staff were friendly and very efficient. A lovely clean pool area

Sam in the spa looked after us and the pool with the swim up jacuzzi was fabulous. We had a gorgeous dinner best fish and chips ever with amazing service !! Lovely staff lovely trip will be back :)

Room was larger than expected and bathroom was great. Hot water tap gets extremely hot so be careful not to burn.

Spa area was good, we spent a while in the pool. Disappointed that the thermal area was closed without prior notice.

Breakfast was mediocre with lack of options and over cooked sausages and bacon. The service was great and always with a smile.

Staff here go above and beyond to help needs and make sure you’re getting the most out of your stay.

Would recommend

Great looking hotel and grounds, close to motorways which was important for us.

Reception staff were really friendly and check in efficient.

Food in the restaurant was very good and all of party enjoyed it, staff seemed overworked and not really customer faced, just wanting to get the job done.

I am a wheelchair user and the accessible room is very spacious, however, it is quite a way from reception and in need of some. tlc and refurbishment as my pictures will demonstrate

On balance it was a good stay and we would certainly stay here again when in the area.

Absoutely beautiful hotel which hosted my best friends baby shower. We were in the Portrait room which was stunning. The staff couldn't do enough for us, especially Chris who was exceptional! The afternoon tea was also lovely and super yummy! Couldn't recommend enough for intimate events with family and friends. Thank you!

Spent my birthday weekend here. Everyone is so nice staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms are clean and tidy. Fridge in the room, iron , dressing gowns , safe. Liked that the bathroom mirror was heated so it didn’t steam up when showering. Flat screen tv and free Wi-Fi. Parking is free for guests you just need to register your reg. pool is nice however the spa is connected to the pool so it’s the same temperature. The restaurant is nice, food is good. Breakfast is really nice and although the English breakfast food is served to you, if you want 2 or 3 of something you just ask for it and you can toast your own bread and get your own cereal. Will definitely come here again

Problems did arise due to a disturbance with hotel guests,
However Do to staff positive attitudes they made are stay great.

Spa staff all super helpful and could not do enough for us

Olivia in the restaurant was fantastic, it was great to meet a warm kind down to earth member of staff, I hope her management take note of staff members like herself as she made us laugh and she never stopped smiling!

Rebecca on reception was really understand too! And really easy to talk to!

30 guests for private birthday party in Portrait room.
Did have to ask for room to be hoovered on arrival to set up - but this was done straight away as asked.
Seemed short staffed, however, Azis (manager of catering/bar area)was very helpful and organised for the buffet to be served in the breakfast bar area as to have in room would have been a bit squashed. Bar staff very helpful. Buffet very good and dietry requests accommodated for.
Booking process not a problem but felt staff dealing with recruitment issues/training of new staff.
My mum did however, have a lovely afternoon.
The parking arrangement confusing initially as signage gives impression that there is a parking charge which was offputting, but staff helped with information- registration of vehicle and duration of stay all that is required for guests.

Though the booking process wasn't as smooth as possible, Sally the manager handled it very well. She was very apologetic of the situation and managed to put things right, and apologised several times. The cove for our party on Friday night was fabulous, with amazing service and great food. Plus chilled wine! Aziz in the restaurant was lovely, friendly and helpful and nothing was to much trouble... EVEN helping make favour boxes for later that days wedding. Breakfast was lovely! With plenty of choice. Both mornings breakfast was fab. The rooms was huge! So much room! The beds well comfy! Possibly one of my fabe hotel beds! I love a hotel bed! Need biscuits on the brew tray!
I am really looking forward to staying again. Hoping we can bring the children and take advantage of the pool and of course I can get a treatment booked in.
Fabulous stay, beautiful place... Great service.. I 100% would recommend, and will be back.

Absolutely first class hotel, cant fault it. Great check in, rooms extremely large and spacious with everything you need, great evening meal in restaurant, breakfast was super, except standard for a hotel that size, no hesitation in staying again.

Great service in reception, dining room and bar, also in the Wellness Spa.
Our spa treatments were a particular highlight of our stay.
Excellent food and overall great experience.
Corridors were cold, as well as room on arrival. Shame we couldn’t access jacuzzi or steam room.

We were a group of 19 women who wanted a spa weekend break and The Mercure lived up to our expectations. The staff were welcoming, polite and helpful, nothing we asked for was too much. The rooms were spacious, very clean and the beds extremely comfortable. The food was very tasty and beautifully presented. Unfortunately the date we chose coincided with the refurb of the thermal suite, however, this was made clear prior to booking. I plan to go again further into the year and am so looking forward to staying. Thank you Mercure staff.

I have stayed here many times, and it continues to get better every time i visit, staff are the best and the food is good as well!!

Extra effort is always made to make the stay very special, I don't think much can be improved.

I've been staying at the Dunk for some time now.
All the staff are friendly helpful from Danielle on the front desk, Sarah, Elena and Elizabeth at the bar and Krishna, Aziz, Amy and Rebecca in the restaurant.
The gym is excellent with new and well maintained equipment and I can't wait for the refurbished Spa to open later this year.

Nice place to stay. I ordered the gnocchi for my main meal and I was given enough to feed two people. Swimming pool nice too. Only reason not giving 5 star as the pillows were like bricks despite very comfy mattress. Also sticky toffee pudding not warm.

We’ve just completed two nights DB+B via the travelzoo deal. Really impressed . Lovely big room, spotless in all aspects. Particularly friendly staff, all of them! Easy parking. Excellent food. Now I’m going to be really picky, cold plates at breakfast, and un- discernibly unwanted background music. Now if those are the only two moans, you may be reassured that in all other aspects, this hotel has exceeded our expectations. We can’t wait to return. To add, parking free if you register your car upon arrival, and the dinner included three courses. Would recommend to all.

Had a lovely couple of nights at the Dunkenhalgh. Lovely room and staff were very obliging. Easy drive to several great locations…we chose Clitheroe. The pool is great…bright and airy and the water was surprisingly warm on a chilly winters evening. Great dinner and breakfasts too.

We run lots of networking events. It's rare to experience a near-perfect event like the one we had at Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa this week. Everyone at the hotel was on the ball, our niche set-up requirements were perfect when I arrived at the hotel. The venue space was perfect and worked really well. We had more guest than expected but the team saved the day by making lots more food quickly and without fuss. Special shout out to Natalie, Luke, Edwena and Lisa. We will be back next year!

My sister and I returned yesterday from a short relaxing break at this delightful hotel. It is in an ideal position to visit historical points of interest and surrounding countryside. Facilities and service are very good as were the staff. Our room was very clean, spacious, had everything we needed including iron and board, dressing gowns and slippers and huge TV. also sitting area. Breakfast was great well cooked and ample choices. Aziz the manager gave all his guests a warm welcome and ensured breakfast was a pleasant and smooth experience. There are more places we wish to visit later in the year and will book this hotel again. Thanks to all the team it was a delightful stay.

We had such a wonderful stay at the Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa! The staff were friendly, the hotel looks very grand from the outside and is lovely and modern on the inside (we’re trying to find the bathroom mirror for our bathroom at home!) We were especially impressed with the large flat screen TV and variety of channels. There is a pool which is free to use for guests, the steam room/sauna were out of use while we were staying but we still enjoyed having a swim. The restaurant was lovely and the adjacent bar had a great atmosphere. The car park is usually £10 a day we think but was free while we were staying. We felt really relaxed throughout our time here and although we were relatively rural and close to lots of walks, we also found lots of nearby activities to take part in such as axe throwing at Real Axe and curling at The Flower Bowl, so it was a great mixture. We would definitely return here! Thank you for a lovely stay.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel on a inclusive meals basis.

Stylish room with robes and walk in shower, coffee machine etc.
My husband paid for a celebration package balloons, chocolates, petals on the bed.
All very lovely they even added tea lights ( battery ones ).
All these were extras so ask first as I think a large box of Milk Tray was £10 which does seem expensive.

But to be honest that’s my only complaint. The hotel is very large lots of room, grounds to walk around and a well maintained swimming pool.
The bar area is well stocked and the girl , Amy who served us is an excellent ambassador for the hotel.
I asked her about the history of the building and she gave me a complete story of the building including the fact it had a secret tunnel !
Amy was very helpful and had an extensive knowledge of the wines on offer and various cocktails, she is an asset to the hotel.

The dining room recently refurbished has a very light garden feel to it , very airy and plenty of space between tables.
The menu for the evening meal had usual classics such as fish and chips but also various steaks and chicken dishes.
We had 3 courses and throughly enjoyed it, well. Presented, fresh looking and tasting to be honest much better than we thought.
The young lady taking orders in the restaurant Sara again was very knowledgeable about the menu and I believe was the supervisor she was polite and very helpful, again an asset to the hotel.

Prices for starters ranged from £6 for soup £7 for arancini. Main courses 15.00 for steak and ale pie etc. I would recommend calling the hotel prior to your visit and ask if they will do an all inclusive meal deal, excellent value.

There was a large wedding party in the hotel but it didn’t disturb us and we could not hear anything in our room.

We throughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend for business or pleasure.

This hotel is absolutely amazing, the rooms were big, the beds were very comfortable indeed, the spa treatment I had was very relaxing, the whole weekend I felt relaxed, couldn't fault this place. The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff and other guests were pleasant and kind. I only wish the thermal suit was in operation as I love my steams and sauna. But overall, it was a wonderful place to come too and definitely relax as I did with the ladies I spent the weekend with.
