The building is ancient and stunning, felt very special. Internally it’s good but there are some age fixes and injuries that need dealing with. Window frames very tired and not sound proof at all and hard to close. Huge hole in the wall behind my door for some reason. Furniture lovely. Bathroom very nice and a marvellous shower with plenty of heat and power.
Breakfast was fresh and tasty. Not covered in oil as some are. Service was very friendly and every member of staff I met seemed happy to be there. Chris on the bar the first night (31.7) and breakfast the next morning (1.8) was a delight. Very friendly, very attentive, not intrusive though which was exactly right. The ladies serving during breakfast were very friendly and happy to help made it a pleasant and relaxed breakfast.
I look forward to staying again and getting to use the spa facilities next time.

Stayed in courtyard. Room excellent and extremely well cleaned. Nice selection of tea and coffee plus biscuits. Evening meal booked on 2 courses for £15 delicious as was the breakfast full English or continental. Good value in a lovely hotel in beautiful setting.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights as part of our honeymoon. The room was lovely with a huge comfortable double bed. The buffet style breakfast was excellent value for money in a lovely restaurant area, the breakfast manager Aziz greeted and sat us promptly and was warm and funny. On our second night the Bar till broke down so the two staff on shift Chris and joe both had to work twice as hard as usual and did so without so much as a crack in their professional courtesy or care for their customers. The pool area was lovely and clean with excellent private shower facilities. Definitely going to visit this place for future anniversaries

The hotel is comfortable clean and friendly staff- I would stay more if I could charge my car. With the chargers not working I stay elsewhere. I stay frequently but the last room 22 was uncomfortably and the door doesn’t open easy which is a fire risk

Only stayed 2 nights (day sleep), so did not get to experience the place much.

But found the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel has history going back to 1285, but has had modern features added over the centuries

Rooms spread out across the area and upstairs in some locations.

Beds comfortable, windows give enough air during humid days or nights

Breakfast really good hot and cold range. As well as toast, juices and salad lines

Tea or coffee served on request by the amazing waiting staff

For those who love history and mystery, the hotel is haunted. I did not have time to visit the location of the most notable sightings, but the lady in white (a french bride) with a child can be seen inside the building, as well as on Boggarts Bridge at Christmas Eve

I was in the Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel today and the service we received from Chris in the bar was second to none. He even turned the music down when we said we had a business meeting to dial into. What a star!

The staff are so helpful and the hotel is beautiful. Big rooms and very comfortable beds. Lovely meal in the restaurant with outstanding service from Shailesh. We recommend the chicken supreme. Thank you for being so patient and caring with my elderly parents.

Stayed here while attending a dinner dance. The reception staff were very good and provide all the information I needed for our stay. The room was clean and well decorated however the bed and pillows were not very good resulting in a poor nights sleep. The food was average and potions small. Drinks at the bar were overpriced and the lager was flat.

The hotel is lovely, friendly helpful staff. There was a large wedding on one of the days we stayed and also a lot of footballers, despite this the hotel was quiet. Housekeeping is a little slack, we had to request body wash, also coffee sachets were not replenished, and the drawer/cupboard handles were extremely dirty inroom 87 !

My husband and I got married here 11 years ago. We came back to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel restaurant went above and beyond to help make it special, from decorating our table (thank you Olivia), to checking in with us regulary (Resh) and a lovely desert (Sara). Thank you all. The lovely lady in the hotel bar made me a lovely strawberry daiquiri too.

Towels a bit shabby, room was clean, bed not great. Food was basic and over priced. Staff were very nice. Walk through Bar near rooms was a bit stale smelling. No shower caps, what? No face cloths, what's that about?

The bed was very uncomfortable.
The hotel was fully booked Italian football team were staying there, it had added security, this made me feel safe anyway!

Good quality room. Clean facilities. Good size TV. Excellent shower. Hotel expansive along with the grounds. Dining experience was good although our deal menu was a bit limited but what was served up was good quality and wonderfully served up by Shailesh and the lovely Rebecca. 5 stars to both of them.

All the staff were very good. There was an exception who we found to be so friendly & helpful, Head Water Chris G was outstanding, a wonderful character.
We also found waitress Anelyn was helpful & always smiling. Both are a credit to the hotel.

We had a fabulous weekend here, beautiful old house with lots of history. Lots of paranormal activity and lots of beautiful paintings.

The room was comfortable and the bed was clean and comfy.

Breakfast and eve meal was great and the staff work tirelessly to make their guests happy.

The only thing that let it down was the fire alarm went of 5 times at different times of the day/night so it needs looking at.

Parking was free for guests despite it saying there is a charge and there are plenty of spaces

All in all fabulous weekend thank you

pros room excellent very clean good housekeeping Restaurant food was very nice service was excellent Olivia our waitress was pleasant and very courteous. On knowing it was hubbys 70th got him a lovely sweet with happy birthday on it . Made us feel welcome.
cons
was a prom night on the Friday so very noisy teenagers and glass tumblers left on the grass. to get to our room we had to go thru a room that they were using to drink not suitable.
leisure centre worst I have used didn't feel welcome as a guest no lockers to put any valuables wasn't told no lockers no ladies changing room this was a bedroom up a flight of stairs unsuitable because of my mobility and the bathroom in the room floor soaking and wet towels yet plenty staff hanging around thought someone should have been checking this. no thermal suite. Saying that they did make the only latte coffee I could get as machine wasn't working in the hotel.

Stayed for 2 nights and was really looking forward to the visit. Arrived Friday and weather was lovely so had a few drinks outside. Walking passed the restaurant realised there was no need to get changed as they used to have a 'no jeans' policy, but anything is OK now. Saturday, we relaxed in the spa area. If you would like to eat in the spa/cafe area food has to be pre-ordered at least the day before. Only offer afternoon tea. We could order food but would need to get dressed to eat in the restaurant. Have stayed at a few spa hotels all better than this one.

Took a punt on a Travel Zoo deal … no regrets. Secured a very nice Premium ground floor room overlooking an inner grassy area with tables, chairs and sunshades for coffee drinkers chilling out. The room had all mod cons with a luxury bathroom/walk-in shower, good wall tv, tea facilities+coffee maker, white robes/slippers + iron/board provided …all well-serviced by Alison. We had no problems with room temp or ventilation, slept well, and electronic key entry was trouble-free … as was wi-fi.
We had free daily use of spa pool with jacuzzi annex … a free gym was available too … steam room was being renovated and we noticed aircon ventilation in men’s changing needed fixing … Staff in dining room were v.friendly and on the ball … breakfasts were of a good standard and served hot by staff from a buffet selection … full English usual selection + black pudding.
We daily booked an evening dining slot … staff (inc Shailesh) were all excellent, attentive when you wanted them to be, friendly and meals arrived pretty promptly, hot and to a good standard over the 4 days. Enjoyed the chicken supreme and the salmon in particular.
This was an enjoyable v. relaxing stay in an old family seat with character … where we explored the River Ribble valley scenery, the bleak moorland of Pendle Hill and history of infamous witch-trials + the cotton mill weaving industrial revolution well illustrated in the local Blackburn museum. The market town and castle in Clitheroe was also worth a wander with pleasant views.

We went for a few nights away, I was on crutches which I told the hotel in advance they gave us a downstairs room which I thought was fab till we got there. We were on the opposite side of the building to the facilities (spa, restaurant/bar etc) so I really did struggle to wander to breakfast/evening meal and back. I was guest of the day which was a surprise! We got some snacks and 2 free drinks. :) The room itself was fab though, very quiet We were surprised as we were near the function room but we couldn't hear anything. I was unable to use the spa/swimming pool due to the injury but my partner said it looked good. Service at the restaurant was very hit and miss. We got served by a young gentleman in the first evening who was very unhelpful I asked what fruit ciders he did and he told me they just do magners so that's what I had for my free drink (I don't like normal cider but I thought hey its free) and he just generally didn't appear to want to be there. - to find out the following night when we asked Olivia (best member of staff in the restaurant!) That actually they do indeed do fruit ciders and so I had one of them. Olivia answered all our questions and was very polite throughout. The only issue with the restaurant was there were loads of flies and it was quite off-putting when eating but the food itself was fab and worth the price!

Bar from that overall was a good stay. Would I go back probably not we just expected service to be a little bit better.

My wife and I had the most wonderful experience at this hotel for the 2 days we had the privilage of staying there. The staff were second to none and could not have been any more attentive or helpful to all our needs or wants. This includes all staff from Reception to check out! They were all very pleasant and cheerful in whatever service they provided for us and nothing seemed to be of any bother to them. They were all true ambassadors for the Mercure chain of hotels. Thank you all so much! Our room was delightfully presented and maintained during our stay. (Room 105) There was however one small maintenance issue; in that the bracket support for the shower handset was quite loose and with a considerable gap between it and the wall it was so loosly attached to. It was not a problem for us but it is highly open to water ingress behind that wall, which if left in that state could lead to serious water damage behind that wall?
I would like to make special mention of some of the ambassadors we had interaction with who were just so helpful in the most pleasing and pleasant of ways:

All of the Reception Staff, Our delightful Cleaning Lady who clearly works so hard and provides a great service! The Restaurant staff who were delightful and displayed such great attention to detail. They were Olivia, Chris, Joseph, Shailesh and Sara. Thank you all so much. There was one man who stood out who made our stay so much of a delight with his caring attentive and problem solving ability to round off our wonderful stay and that was Aziz. Such a delightful; hard working man of many talents. I would rate him a Chief Ambassador and fully deserved of such an accolade We would highly recommend This Hotel to anyone.

We were part of a coach group, and were fortunate to get an Executive suite room (613), on our recent 4 night/5 day visit to the area. We could not fault either the room, the service or the food. The staff were brilliant, especially Sara (Restaurant) who came to my rescue when I accidentally knocked a glass of wine over in the room, so clean bedding needed. Immediate attention, and although I offered to re-make the bed, she did it, swiftly and with a smile on her face. Another staff member who managed to make everyone smile, was Olivia, oI hope both these staff go far. The managers were very attentive and you really felt like the customer came first, which has been rare recently. Cannot fault it.
