My partner and myself stayed at this hotel last night.
Upon reading the reviews (after booking ) which was probably a faux par in our side.
We where not expecting much from our stay to say to least.
We drove down from Merseyside around 4pm .
Upon driving into the grounds the hotel looked beautiful.
We parked up to signs as another trip adviser guest has mentioned regarding the parking charges. This was a little confusing as we had received an email the day before to say the parking was free.
I did feel a little disappointed, however the parking costs where not that expensive compared to other hotels parking fees and at least the car was on the hotel site and not in a multi storey around the corner which I have had to do before today.
We then went through the beautiful grounds to the hotel reception:
We where greeted and checked into to our room by a lovely lady who was extremely helpful.
She is explained everything about the pool, free towels, evening meal and how to book your slot and times for breakfast.
She gave us our room key and told us in great detail where our room was. She was extremely friendly and helpful.
We went to book in for our evening meal and then went to the room.
The room was lovely and bed extremely comfortable.
We had a little rest then changed for our meal.

We where greeted and told that our table was getting prepared and asked to take a seat in the bar and we would be called when it was ready. (We where a little early)
We ordered a lovely bottle of wine and waited on our table.
The bar and dining room was beautifully decorated and extremely clean.
Then called us to our table and took our order for dinner.
Both of our meals where amazing we had a starter and main each both of high standard and presented beautifully.
We both every much enjoyed our meals and nothing was too much trouble for all the waiting on staff.
We where too full to order a dessert however what I seen in the next table they too looked lovely.
We retired to bed after that and had a lovely nights sleep in a very large and comfortable bed.

Morning we awoke for breakfast
The view from out window overlooked a lovely field with cows grazing, maybe not to everyone’s cup of tea but I loved it.
Now the comment on another persons trip adviser is the tea and coffee facilities are a little sparse. I must agree!
I think we should have had slightly more coffee and definitely more milk but that is me being picky.

We then went down to breakfast at 8am ish.
We where again greeted by a lovely member of staff a foreign gentleman who was very friendly and jokey and made us both feel very welcome
He got us tea or coffee straight away and told us to help ourselves to breakfast and if we needed anything to just ask.
Breakfast was amazing and really good choice.
I think peoples comments about no marmalade is extremely petty, and maybe they should have just asked and maybe they would have had some.
I asked for extra coffee and a lovely young man came with another fresh pot and asked would I like him to leave the pot at the table for me when I said how nice the coffee was.
All the morning staff where very polite, friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Check out was also a good experience and we had a little chat with the member of staff who had checked us in who also was lovely and friendly.

I can’t comment on the pool as we did not use the pool or spa. Also we had an email prior to arriving to say the sauna was not open.
This was a little disappointing however we where offered to change the date if we wanted which I think was the only thing they could do if there was an issue with it. These things happen and didn’t overly bother us.

Out stay was amazing and we both had the best of times
We would a million percent stay again and would recommend to anyone.
Please don’t let petty comments on here put you off.
I’m sure if you stay here you will have an amazing time.

To sum up :
Beautiful surroundings
Friendly staff
Comfortable rooms
Lovely decor
Excellent food

We will be back
Thankyou for an amazing time

Knowing that I would arrive late I called the hotel and asked if they could prepare a sandwich for me. I spoke with Krishna who suggested that if I could arrive for 9pm they could prepare a full meal for me. Upon arrival my table was prepared, the restaurant staff expected me and I was served a super two course meal. Special thanks to Krishna and Olivia who could not have been more attentive or courteous.

We spent four nights at Mercure Dunkenhalgh. From the outset, we were greeted by courteous professional staff who had a focus on ensuring we had an enjoyable stay and they certainly met our hopes and expectations. Thanks you so much Krishna, Duty Manager at our arrival who listened courteously and responded proactively to our request in a kind and generous way - he definitely sorts things at the first time of asking and made us feel very welcome. The hospitality we encountered at this outset was mirrored across all departments.

Thanks to Housekeeping who ensured our room and bathroom were clean and comfortable - thanks especially to Alison who was thoughtful in particular. There are generous supplies of lovely products in the bathrooms which, again is just a reflection of the hospitality that you are met with in this hotel. We were in a privilege room which had coffee machine and mini fridge and really nice seating with a table which was great for when we had room service.

The pool area was attractive, bright and clean with loungers for those that want to relax for a while. there is a coffee bar adjacent where you can enjoy afternoon tea during your spa afternoon.

Very special mention for the chefs and kitchen staff at this hotel. The food was so good and it was a prominent feature of stay at this hotel. Whether you ate at the restaurant or had room service, the food was always hot and beautifully cooked. We especially enjoyed the salmon and chicken supreme - and lovely desserts! The breakfasts were lovely also. The team in the dining room are helpful and warm and we appreciated their service too.

When one person goes out of their way to be helpful then thats always nice but when you get a consistent high and thoughtful standard of service across the board then you have to say thats a culture and not a one off. We never met the manager at this hotel but whoever you are, you certainly lead a great team!

My wife booked an overnight stay at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary.
On the 18th August 2012, we got married at this Hotel and spent our wedding night in room 58.
On explaining this to the Hotel staff when booking our recent stay, they very kindly upgraded our package, at no extra cost, so that we could stay in the same room as we did on our wedding night.
We attended dinner in the restaurant at 6pm and was greated by a lovely member of staff named Sara B, who tended to our every need and also took the time to genuinely interact with us.
The food within the restaurant was delicious.
All staff were very friendly and accommodating and I could not reccomend the Dunkenhalgh enough for people to stay and dine.
I cannot thank the Hotel and staff enough for help usrecreate past memories.

Fabulous chilled out day with family and friends. Due to the pandemic and other stuff we waited almost 3 years for this! Had the spa day and afternoon tea, we were not disappointed. Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious afternoon tea and Good facilities. We will definitely visit again

We had a great two night stay. The grounds to the hotel are immaculate, the hotel itself is very nice indeed, the staff were great, always friendly, professional and happy to help. The food was great. My partner enjoy her SPA treatments, we both enjoyed relaxing my the pool afterwards. Shame the thermal suite is not open yet (still waiting for parts for a repair I believe) but that wasn't a big deal for us. What else? oh yes the room, a nice large accessible room with a wet room, set up for us as a twin. A lot of hotels have a problem with this but not these guys, everything was just like we asked for. Plenty of tables and chairs in the grounds to sit and enjoy a well earner beer after a hard day relaxing by the pool.
Amazing that you can "get away from it all" and yes still be only 5 minutes off the motorway, thats why I called it a hidden gem

This visit was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful time and this was made even more special by the hotel staff. Every member of staff offered excellent customer service- going the extra mile. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed at the Mercure on 13th August, from our very welcome coffee on arrival to our departure everything was excellent. The staff carried out all their duties efficiently and with an added smile. Despite having two functions on that evening the quality of food and service was exemplary, you should be proud of them all. Our room in the main building was also excellent, with a great bathroom. To round it off our breakfast was devine.

This is a 4 star hotel in nice, quiet grounds but easily accessed from the M65 . Service was good and the staff excellent. I would specially pick out Olivia (or Wednesday as she is sometimes known). Food and drink was good. There was a few maintenance issues but overall our room was good and spacious. The staff did particularly well in dealing with a problem family who seemed intent on causing problems and expecting to get away with packing their room with non-paying guests. I would visit again.

Having stayed here before, we knew what to expect with our stay and are familiar with the impressive building and the friendly, accommodating nature of the staff.

This visit was no different.

The family room booked felt wasted as we use the hotel as a base of operations when visiting family in the area and it was bigger and more luxurious than when we stayed last year. Immaculately clean and refreshed on our second day too.

Amy on Reception went above and beyond for our daughter and was a true delight to chat to. We mentioned that last year our daughter had received an activity pack in the room and we wondered whether there were any spare that we could enjoy. Amy said that unfortunately it was a trial with the activity packs and they weren’t available, but that if we returned after our dinner, she would see what she could find. Upon our return, Amy had kindly found and printed off a Treasure Hunt which asked interesting questions about facts about the hotel and a little history too. She had also found a small window decoration for her to paint. So thoughtful and kind. We were then walking around the grounds seeking the answers to the Treasure Hunt and Amy kindly showed us the Portrait Room and gave us a little history about the building and the families that have owned it. The following day our daughter returned her completed Treasure Hunt to Amy who in return, gave her a colouring book. Such a lovely token and we were very grateful. Amy is a true credit to the hotel and an absolute ray of sunshine.

One of the members of the food and beverage team that we remembered from our last stay was Sara, who is very friendly and always takes the time to talk to each and every guest and gives professional, yet personal service. She kindly recommended a few local national parks which are worth a visit. She was working both evenings of our stay with James, who was also welcoming and remembered our order from the evening before. A delightful duo and again, just so friendly!

A final mention to the lovely team in the leisure centre. We enjoyed a swim on both mornings and on the second morning, our Nan thought she had lost her purse in the changing rooms. They were so kind to her and went out of their way to help her. She ended up finding the purse “somewhere safe” in her bedroom and felt quite silly, but we were very thankful for the team for taking the time to assist her.

Thank you to all the team; it has been yet another fantastic stay and we look forward to our next visit.

Best,

Katie, Pete and Gracie

We just had a night at this hotel. The hotel itself is lovely to look at, it coped well with the very warm weather, the pool was lovely! We appreciated how friendly the staff were on arrival, the selected us as “guest of the day” which meant we got a few extras! This was so lovely and made us feel well looked after! We hope to return to this hotel in the future! Thanks

We have thoroughly enjoyed a family stay at Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa Blackburn for the past week.

James, the Server in the bar, has been fantastic! Always going out of his way to be attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Considering the number of faces that pass him each day, he always remembered our favourite drinks, was cheerful and always keen to know how our day had been.

Mercure, you’ve got a rare one with James - his customer service is exceptional.

I also enjoyed a wonderful body massage from Ella in the spa. Very relaxing and would highly recommend treating yourself.

Some areas of the hotel are a little tired, but overall the place is fantastic, the food very good, drinks are expensive (but where aren’t they nowadays) and the staff made our stay perfect. Thank you.

Firstly we wish to applaud all staff that my fiancee and I engaged with in your beautiful hotel
From room staff to restaurant and front of house staff there was professionalism, friendliness and humour despite the stressful nature of their jobs .
In particular we would like to draw attention to the reception staff on duty when we arrived on the afternoon of the 5th August, the room staff(Housekeeping) Maria , restaurant staff , Reshi, Olivia , Sara and Joshua whom ensured that food was served and cleared with quiet professionalism yet were engaging and polite , showing commitment to their role which was a pleasure to observe .
It is these qualities that added to and enhanced what was a special occasion in itself
When time and our worklife allows , both of us would have little hesitation in returning.

Absolutely amazing.
Staff were so attentive without being in your face. Especially Sara who was so nice to chat to amd went out of her way to create cocktails for me.
Nothing seemed to be too much of an ask for the staff.

We booked the overnight spa stay for 2 which included dinner, breakfast amd an hour spa treatment.

Food was beautiful. The natural products used for the massage amd facial have done wonders wonders my skin.

Rooms were lovely. Plenty of space, love that there was a bath and shower cubical.

We are already planning our next visit. For a longer stay.

Exec rooms a good size and comfortable bed . Exec wing smells a little damp towards the end. Check in could be more welcoming. Good if on business trip. A bit close to motorway but fairly quiet at night. Overall OK. Breakfast a bit dull. Dinner OK in terms of quality but we found service old be more attentive

Had a wonderful stay with my husband at the Dunkenhalgh, Sally made sure the room was nicely made up for our 6year old. Rebekah, Chris and Regan were all very attentive during service that evening at dinner.

My stay at the Dunkenhalgh was amazing, 5 star food, James took the appropriate measures to meet my allergen needs. Most of the other waiters/waitresses were extremely dull however James made me feel a lot better with the attention he payed to the quality of my meal, man deserves a pay rise definitely a great asset to Accor hotels. My actual stay in the hotel was mid

The waiter James was amazing. He always puts 100% in every night I’ve stayed here. Also very friendly and goes above and beyond. Always pulls the perfect pint. Polished shoes, nicely gelled hair, and smartly dressed.

The hotel in itself isn’t great, overall experience average, the best part of my dunkenhalgh experience was meeting our waiter JAMES, lovely man, excellent service. The man needs a raise for sure, he runs around this place like it’s his home! Such a friendly man and happy to help whenever necessary.

This hotel is vast, so large and so many rooms, conference suites, and banqueting suites, it is spotlessly clean, the food is good, the staff can’t do enough for you, Chris and Olivia are the most attentive waiting staff I have ever come across, nothing was too much for them, upon checking out Chris was on duty and even came to our car to wish us all the best and a safe journey home, the rest of the waiting staff who served us unfortunately we didn’t get their names, but they were all amazing, we will definitely be returning to see our friends.
