All the staff from reception, waiter and waitresses and also housekeeping were helpful and friendly. Only one niggle - the pool and jacuzzi were a tad cold - but did not spoil our stay. A big thank you to all for a relaxing stay.

The hotel still retains its former stately home ambience. From the moment we arrived Amy the receptionist was friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable. The restaurant was lovely and cozy and the 3 course evening meal was fantastic with all the staff efficient and friendly, even though it was an extremely busy night. Olivia served our table and she was professional and efficient. Overall a wonderful stay.

Firstly Al say the cameo restaurant is excellent manager Shailesh tended to my ladies fish and nut allergy very well and unlike a lot of places she was allowed something she liked of all 3 courses staff lovey and very attentive.large rooms general nice place to stay had a full body massage witch was very professional. Therese is parts of the hotel that are need a little attention if you wanted to be fussy but never bothered us . The worse bit was the males changing rooms shut down so no mail toilets or lockers on pool or spa .but over all great value lovely food big rooms nice buffet breakfast would deffo return next year

Came for a birthday celebration on the 1 night reviver deal. Our trip to the spa was lovely. Dan was really helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the products used in the treatments. He really did everything he could to make our visit exceptional.

Booking an entire hotel (except for the Spa) for our annual 3 day conference was always going to raise concerns, especially with over 300 delegates attending. Some arriving for one day, some for 3 nights, including various breakfast, lunches and dinner requests. Fergus and his fabulous team proved it was more than possible and exceeded all expectations.

I can't praise the hotel and staff enough for making it extra special, they went above and beyond, working all day and through the night to make sure everyone was comfortable and welcome.

I would happily stay here for one night in a couple (and enjoy the spa) and strongly consider holding a future conference here.

Bravo team Mercure Dunkenhalgh for making our Conference a huge success in all accounts!!

Fergus and team went above and beyond to ensure our conference was a huge success. From housekeeping to front of house, everyone was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The attention to detail was exceptional and this showed through across all areas. The catering whether breakfast, lunch or dinner for 200 delegates was superb and always hot.
They took the stress out of all of the organisational and operational aspects and were all just so lovely to work with. Would have no hesitation in recommending them.

We arrived as premier members early afternoon but there was no chance of any treatments in the spa. We were told we should book 4 weeks in advance. We only booked the room last week. Very disappointed that we couldn’t get any form of treatment at all.

Shailesh in the restaurant made our anniversary meal very special. He deserves a special mention. Went above and beyond to make our evening extremely notable. He even procured for an AF non-drinker a very elegant blue AF cocktail !

We held our wedding at the venue a few months ago, The process leading up to the day, was managed well with the hotel, including people booking rooms in our party and obtaining a hoist for one of the rooms

This made the experience for our guests stress free and enjoyable and I am aware some have returned since the wedding

We would like to pass on our special thanks to a few members of the team as well as everyone else who was friendly and aided when needed

Firstly Edwina was simply superb, from ringing on her day off to go through the day and answering questions, to the day itself where she made it so relaxed and stress free for us and our party, we can never thank Edwina enough for this, she is a credit to the hotel not only is she a wonderful employee but also a wonderful person.

Secondly, Aziz who was running the restaurant area. Aziz remembered us from previous visits and looked after us and our party, especially one family where one person had suffered a stroke and had mobility issues and there son was in a wheelchair, he ensured that they were placed in the hotel where there was extra space and ensured that breakfast was specially made for the disabled member of the party, again this made the stay for this family stress free and more enjoyable.

Thirdly, there was a member of the waiting team, that dealt with my family and the family with the disabled adult in the wheelchair, I'm told he had a scouse accent and may have been called Harry. He helped both families with there mobility issues, including pushing the wheelchair back to the room and helping some of the family with mobility issues supporting them back to the room also.

Lastly but not least, was Chris, who worked the bar for our wedding reception, the hotel bar afterwards and then the night after also. Everyone complimented on how he was with everyone how he interacted with the party and how helpful he was.

All 4 went above and beyond and were a credit to the hotel alongside everyone else

Thank you again for making our day extra special and to everyone who played a part in our day

All the staff are great but particularly so is Sara in the restaurant/bar. Sara makes the best Old Fashioned cocktails I’ve ever had - she also made the experience so, so great. Ive stayed about 10 nights now, i love this place and can’t wait to come back again!

Stayed here for a couple of weeks as working in the area. The rooms are comfortable and the evening meals and breakfast are good. All of the staff have been friendly and accommodating. Sara who works in the bar and restaurant seemed to go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome.

This was the second time we have stopped here. A great break away and a fantastic spa to truly relax. Staff are amazingly friendly and can't do enough to help or smile in your direction. Massive special thanks to Aziz, you were amazing and very character in so many ways. You made us all smile. Thank you so much.

We stayed here for 5 nights in January. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and thought it was good value for money. The room was very spacious and we enjoyed the gym, pool and spa facilities.

All of the staff we encountered were very friendly. They were very quick to resolve a problem with our shower drain.

We were however disappointed with the food at lunch time which we ordered twice. On both occasions only select parts of the menu were available: sandwiches and side dishes.

The first time we ordered ploughman’s sandwiches - described as gammon, cheddar and pickle sandwiches with crisps. What arrived was grated plastic cheese mixed with pickle. When we questioned what had arrived they prepared it again but just added a slice of ham. Not exactly as described..

The second time we all ordered two side dishes at £5 each: chicken wings and a Greek-style salad.

After about 20 mins the chef came out and said he couldn’t do the Greek salad. We asked what other salads he could do to which he replied he could do a Caesar salad so we agreed to go with that. The food arrived and it was pleasant. However what was not so pleasant was the bill that arrived afterwards! To our dismay they had charged us £13 for the Caesar salad which was nothing more than leaves, 2 croutons and some shavings of Parmesan. We were never informed of the cost difference and reluctantly had to pay £18 instead of £10 each for our lunch.

This experience really did put a dampener on our stay I’m not sure I would return.

Used the pool and spa on 9/1/23. Staff were great, organised and friendly. The treatments we had booked were good too, and prices reasonable.

However, the leisure club as a whole desperately needs a refurb: changing rooms in poor condition, lots of the chrome work rusty, mosaic tiles missing round the pool. A real shame as it's in a great spot and offered a good product for us wanting a half day spa experience. Is there a timescale for upgrading the site? Thanks

We've just had a two night break away, bed, breakfast and evening meal, what a lovely stay we've loved every minute of it the staff was all very pleasant and helpful,
The facilities was spot on we used the gym , pool & sauna all lovely, the only downfall was the jacuzzi wasn't warm it was part of the pool , the ladies changing rooms were being renovated but suitable rooms was available for us to use ,
Our room was a good size with everything we needed, cleaned daily .
The restaurant was pleasant & friendly staff , the food was excellent & good selection on the menu, the bar area was very nice area to sit & relax after our evening meal .
I'd highly recommend staying here its been a lovely little break away .

Booked a last minute overnight stay and so glad we did. Arrived early room ready which meant we had a little longer in the spa. Robes and slippers provided in the room, room decor great, everything we needed. The visit to the spa was excellent with everything clean & tidy, only downside was the ladies changing rooms being renovated so we all had to share a bedroom to get changed, when we left the spa I went back to my room in my robe. Deal came with a 2 course evening meal and complimentary bottle of prosecco. Food and service was very good and we couldn't fault anything. Breakfast the following morning again no faults, excellent buffet choice & hot food. All in all an excellent stay, yes there were some renovation works in and around the hotel which is the only reason i didn't give 5* at this particular time

We stayed Saturday night for my birthday…plus two friends. Gift in room totally unexpected and a lovely touch. Dispute disruption to spa due to refurbishment of changing rooms…great experience. Staff in spa Richard and Caitlin excelled. Evening dinner extremely good complimentary bottle of wine was most welcome. Service was excellent. Break fast was great and Iziz service was professional and friendly. We will definitely be back. We saw Nicola on reception on arrival and departure she was also brilliant. Thank you.

We stayed for a night in the hotel in an executive room (I believe it is the most expensive one). The hotel is very huge and has a lot of rooms in a variety of standards. The whole structure is not modern and it has kept it's historical value. There were two things which we didn't expect at all for a hotel in this level which has led me to give the above score. First, considering the type of room we paid for, it didn't have WiFi in practice. The coverage was the poorest I have ever seen and literally useless and very unstable. I don't know how difficult would be to install a few APs here and there to resolve the coverage issue! Second, the noise in the room. I am not talking about the noise coming from other rooms. There was a pretty much constant noise from pipes and perhaps bathroom fan which was very annoying and you could hear it easily in daylight (at night it was worse). I don't want to mention the issue with thermostatic valve in the bathroom which couldn't get adjusted and we had to shower with a very hot uncomfortable water temperature.
We also tried the spa facilities. Generally, it was pretty much standard but was quite busy and it didn't feel that there was any instructions for how to use the pool (we didn't expect to see people teaching kids how to swim in such a small pool). Also there was no jacuzzi.
The breakfast was in buffet style and a fairly standard one. However, we didn't feel that pastries got refilled so some people didn't see them at all!
The service was good in general but we felt that some staff were not approachable and in some areas, staff were not trained to standards you would expect in such hotels
Other than the above issues we faced, the hotel has beautiful surrounding gardens and fields and everything else you would expect from a hotel at this level.
All in all, I wouldn't recommend the hotel and I think it doesn't pay off what you pay for.
