Stayed overnight on a Sunday night special offer which included dinner and breakfast and use if the spa facilities. It was an excellent experience all 'round. Check in was very friendly and efficient and we were given an unexpected room upgrade because it was our anniversary. The newly refurbished thermal suite/sauna/steam rooms next to the pool are excellent. Considering dinner was from a set menu as part of the deal, there was a good choice of dishes and what we had was very tasty, well cooked and presented. our table was even decorated for our anniversary and we were given a complimentary glass of fizz. Breakfast next morning was also very good. Granted, the decor of this huge magnificent building is dated, as one cannot even imagine how much a place like this must cost to keep running on a daily basis. However, every single member of staff we came into contact with had a smile on their face, the food was very good, the room was large and very comfortable and the pool and thermal suite we excellent, so the decor did not detract at all from our stay and we will definitely return again. Highly recommended for a relaxing overnight break.

The positives:
- Check-in was quick and the lady on reception offered a toy from a basket for our 4 year old son (lovely touch)
- Executive room great size, comfortable pillows and beds
- children allowed to use the pool 8-11 and 5-7 at weekends

The negatives:
- during family swim time a massive hen do screeching in the hot tub (why during the 5-7 family time which families can only swim after the morning slot are adults without kids allowed in?)
- hotel is poor for coeliacs - menu has gluten free containing ingredients but when we checked everything is cooked in the same fryer so contaminated and unsuitable for coeliacs - is it that hard to have a small separate fryer to prevent cross contamination especially when you are a large chain hotel?
- breakfast the buffet hot food had sausages containing gluten so again not suitable for coeliacs as if someone uses the tongs on the sausages then uses the same tongs for the other food it is instantly contaminated - the de vere have a separate gluten free breakfast selection area so I would have expected something similar.
The stay would have been great if properly gluten free available and family swim time being just that family swim not groups of adults I.e. hen parties.

Went for a spa break with friends to celebrate a 60th Birthday. Some minor problems with our room booking dinner reservation, which was the fault of the company I booked with, but both problems dealt with professionally and in a friendly manner and we were given a complimentary bottle of prosecco and a glass of the same whilst waiting for the problem to be sorted. Our room was comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. The spa facilities were great and the staff very helpful. Sadly one of my friends and my main course wasn't very nice, but our waitress dealt with it very professionally and we were offered a dessert free and discount on our drinks. Very comfortable beds and a great selection for breakfast. Definitely felt more relaxed when we left. Will definitely visit again. The menu could be a little more extensive and could possibly do with an overhaul as a bit pub lunching.

Me and my partner went for a 1 night stay, I booked it on wowcher the deal included dinner, breakfast and 1pm checkout. The hotel it's self is okay, the staff were all friendly. We were impressed with the room it was quite big and big bed, spacious shower, no complaints, thought the free pepsis and water was a nice touch.
The meal wasnt too bad too be fair, I had fish n chips and the fish was fresh n crispy. The breakfast wasn't amazing, the sausages were okay but some were anemic and some burnt. Good selection of cereals and pastrys.
I booked 2x spa treatments for me and my partner via spa seekers, v relaxing but don't like the sales pitch at the end trying to sell the products.
I'd defo consider staying here again it was a pleasant comfortable stay.

The hotel is situated in beautiful grounds, and the outside of the building looks stunning. However, parts of the inside are in need of redecorating and patching up, with peeling walls, dirty carpets etc. The staff were friendly, kind and helpful.
We had a 'superior' room with a large TV, comfortable bed, ironing board, hairdryer and coffee/tea tray. Our special deal (through secret escapes website) included breakfast and a bottle of wine. Despite letting the hotel know it was our 30th anniversary, there were no complimentary extra touches - however you can pay for extras if you want them. But again the decor let it down. the lock on the bathroom door was broken/missing, the tile on the shower floor was peeling away and the ceiling cracking and falling off. The bedroom needed a repaint, with stains on the walls. We'd stayed in a Premier Inn the night before and to be honest, it was superior to this room which we'd paid a lot more for. It just lacked the luxury feel you want for a special anniversary.
The bar and restaurant were both really nice, however. Breakfast was delicious with plenty to choose from. The spa was also great. Nice size pool, a sauna, steam room etc. included in the price.
Sadly it didn't meet the 4 star luxury we'd hoped for, but the breakfast and pool/sauna helped make it feel special.

We had the best stay for my 30th birthday treat from my best friend, this is the 2nd time I have stayed as I booked this for her 30th last year and it didn't disappoint.
Hotel went above and beyond and decorate the room and also left beautiful cakes and complimentary dressing downs and slippers to use during our stay, not only that decorated our table for our evening meal and a birthday drink. Those little touches really did make my birthday and our stay extra special. It will always be our go to weekend yearly stay now as we just love our stay here.
Staff are happy to help with any requests.
Thank you for an amazing visit we will be back

Lovely hotel. Our bedroom was spacious and everything we would require during our stay.
We ate in the restaurant. Starters were delicious but my partners fish wasn't cooked properly and he ended up with an upset stomach. This was reported to staff but they did not take much notice.
Spa was enjoyable but a little too busy at times as there was no space in certain areas

I took my mother in law for her first ever spa day and what a spa day she had. We had an amazing day the staff were all so lovely , the facilties spot on, the afternoon tea delicious and the treatments just devine. We were so relaxed. A good thing about the pool is its all one depth so as a non swimmer it was ideal for her and she felt confident enough to walk around in it. It also has walk in steps and a walk in jacuzzi in the pool so she could enjoy that too.
We also stayed over night so after our spa we went to check in.On check in we were informed we had been chosen as guest of the day and there's a treat in our room which has also been upgraded. Our room was beautiful and what we thought was our treat was a pack of popcorn and kitkat each which we thought was cute untill we read the note which stated our guest of the day win means we get a 2 course dinner and a drink each free.I mean how lovely of the hotel.we felt very lucky ladies.
The meal and drinks were gorgeous. we indulged in a pina colada or 2 after dinner in the bar ,which were made to perfection .
We had a good night's sleep in our huge bed and enjoyed a full English breakfast to finish our stay.
We can't wait to return and do it all again 💗 x

I booked an overnight spa break for my daughter and I through SpaSeekers. The Cameo Bar is lovely and the food was great. The bar service is a little on the slow side though. The Spa and the facilities are great. The double room (307) was nice but the shower dripped all night and it smelt a little musky. The hotel itself is looking a little tired. Worn carpets, scuffed walls, crumbling walls, stained chairs. The bed was comfortable though. I also paid £15.00 for birthday balloons in the room. I was very disappointed to find 3 red heart shaped balloons - looked more for valentines day! Overall I would recommend the spa and their treatments, but the venue itself is tired and needs a lot of TLC.

My husband and I have just spent 4 nights here and have once again been thoroughly impressed with our experience. Our reservation was made at short notice due to a family bereavement. On arrival we were looked after by Shannon, who welcomed us like long lost friends. They say it’s the little things that can make a difference and she certainly brightened us up during a sad time.
We look forward to returning in the future.

Stayed here for a ghost hunting weekend with Haunted Happenings. Receptionist on arrival was welcoming and as I had a bad knee she offered then insisted to help carry my bag up to the room. We were given room 99 which was over the spa. The room was spacious but hotter than hell was glad that we were able to open the windows. The shower temperature knob didn't work and after ringing down to reception the duty manager arrived and let us use the room next door. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and all the staff were lovely. We used the spa facilties on Friday afternoon and it was a really great place to relax.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay. I'm guessing the hotel or its parent (Mercure) must have a meticulous selection and training regime because every single member of staff was truly excellent. All were courteous, attentive and always had a smile. Check in was quick (and they were busy) and informative. The room was excellent and large (in our case room 97). We dined in the restaurant both nights and the food was excellent. The staff also sang happy birthday for me ! Pool and spa are clean and comprehensive. All in all, a great stay and lovely grounds. Thanks to the staff !

Had an amazing stay at this beautiful hotel. The reception staff are extremely welcoming and gave us information about the hotel. The room could have done with some TLC but overall nice and modern. Went down for dinner in the Cameo restaurant at 6:30. Was greeted by a lovely young lady Arica, very good customer service and so attentive. the food was amazing. Will definitely stay again!

What isn't there to like about this place as soon as you approach the building it resembles a beautiful historical Castle! Beautiful interior with historical features!
As soon as you walk in you are greeted with a smile, made to feel right at home and so very welcome.
Breakfast the next day was so delicious. And once again when you arrive you are greeted so warmly.
Special thanks to Sophie on the desk who made us feel so welcome and gave us a quick brief of the history of this very beautiful building.
Also, special thanks to Aziz, for welcoming us at breakfast. He made everything simple and easy and couldn't do more to make our meal and stay super comfortable. A+++++

We visited hotel for a weekend stay linked with Haunted Happenings Witches of Pendle tour. Although purportedly a 4 star luxury hotel we found it pretty much run of the mill. Generally, the staff were very positive and would try to accommodate your every need but it was just a cumulative series of events that wore us down. The room, although clean was drab and well overdue a makeover. Stains to walls, blown sealed unit in window and flaking exterior paint. Pillows were hard and when requesting softer ones, we were told that there weren't any. My wife wanted a bath on arrival but there was no hot water until we again made a request to reception. As this was part of an organised tour, evening meals were taken in a private dining area, the Portrait Room I believe. Unfortunately, food quality seemed to suffer.
Overall, not what we were expecting and we will definitely think twice before using this place again.

A very warm and friendly welcome at reception. Travelled with 2 friends so you would have thought our rooms would have close to each other but they couldn't be further apart when we found out and due to the size of the hotel it took around 10 mins to walk from each room to the other so we couldn't even celebrate my friends birthday how we wanted to.
The rooms themselves are very respectable looking and very clean but the beds and pillows are that hard they're like sleeping on concrete, so we were glad to have only stayed the 1 night.
We had booked a spa package which included a 3 course evening meal and we only got given a 2 course meal, as according to reception they had emailed me with a change 1 month prior but I have yet to receive such email.
The set menu was all very unhealthy options not suitable for diabetics and certain diets but we managed. The food was nice but with it being a spa package you would have thought healthier options would have been included instead.
We couldn't book our treatments until the following morning at 10am as they were short staffed!! And even though we had booked a Ishga Face & Body treatment, which should have been a facial and full body massage, again this was cut short to just a back massage.
Check out was 11am but luckily managed to change it to 12pm due to having the treatments finishing time.
It was all just a mad rush, we didn't feel relaxed and we are still suffering from back and neck pains 2 days later from the uncomfortable beds.
It's a lovely hotel but just a shame we didn't get what we booked and paid for.
We won't be staying there again sadly.

Visited hotel for a 2 night break, all staff friendly and helpful especially the reception staff. Shannon was particularly attentive and friendly. Stayed in lovely quiet room and slept well.

Downside slow service in restaurant and a number if items unavailable.

Very large hotel with conference facilities etc. Can imagine would be busy at certain times of the year but quiet on this occasion.

Would stay again as enjoyable experience for us!

What a gem of a hotel! Shannon on reception welcomed us with a huge smile and was incredibly helpful with our stay. We will definitely be back, for a Shannon smile and to enjoy that spa on a lazy afternoon.

I was really pleasantly surprised with our stay at this hotel. We were greeted with a glass of Prosecco and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We upgraded our room and it was very large and clean with good amenities and a great shower. We had a really comfortable sleep and got our breakfast to the room which was very good. We had a meal in the restaurant included in a deal on spa seekers which I found very reasonable priced with good food and service. The spa area is basic but clean and relaxing with a nice atmosphere. There is a lovely courtyard and outdoor seats that looked lovely but unfortunately it rained during our visit. I would definitely visit again and we had a lovely stay!

We only spent half the time but that’s all that was needed. The pool area was lovely with relaxing music playing. The thermal suite offered different rooms. The whirlpool is the same temperature as the pool and part of the pool so no hot tub/Jacuzzi. We relaxed on loungers for a while around the pool but that’s all there is to it really. It’s not the most luxurious spa we’ve been to in the local area. We booked this through Tesco points but would’ve probably been disappointed if we’d have paid the full price. Changing rooms are dated with broken lockers. The cafe area looked nice for a drink and bite to eat but definitely over priced. No separate times for spa guests so the pool and thermal suites were quite busy with hotel guests and leisure members - If you were a member or a hotel guest then this would be a suitable leisure club but not the best for a special spa day. Staff were friendly & polite. Would probably not return, other local Spas offer much more facilities and a more luxurious feeling.

Beautiful building and grounds, lovely room with everything needed for a super stay, including iron and ironing board. Replenishing of tea tray was easy, breakfast good. Great extra facilities. Overall a brilliant experience even if the staff were stretched with large events going on in the evenings I was there. Evening meal adequate.

Went to the Dunkenhalgh for the first time to meet some colleagues and friends. Absolutely lovely. The bar area was quiet, bright and staffed wonderfully well. The ladies that looked after us were amazing as was Aziz ! He was simply incredible. Just the right approach, friendly, humorous, polite and was clearly made for hospitality.
Very impressed and will be back for future meetings - thank you. Fro me people make a place !!!!
