Just returned from two nights at this lovely hotel, staff went out of their way to make sure we were looked after. We were given an upgraded room which was huge and spotlessly clean . Spa was great warm pool . Food was lovely and the resteraunt manager very welcoming in a morning we were spoilt at dinner and given free drink for anniversary from very nice waiting staff , we will definitely recommend and be returning at some point . Very relaxing stay and lovely visiting the forest of Bowland and Yorkshire dales very scenic .

We had a lovely time here for a one night stay. The building is beautiful and steeped in history. We stayed in the courtyard and we had no major complaints about the room. The only minor thing was that the electric towel radiator doesn't switch off so was really warm in the night but I would prefer that instead of being to cold. We spent time in the pool and steam/sauna which helped us to relax before having a two course meal in the evening. We could not fault the food and the staff were all friendly and welcoming. We had breakfast the following morning and there was ample selection of cooked and cold foods, so something for everyone. We will definitely be returning again for another stay.

Overall a good stay. Incredibly busy and at times I felt for the staff. Could tell they were understaffed but they did their best. Pool definitely needed to be warmer but spa staff didn't seem to want to be there or deal with guests. Hotel staff genuinely cared and wanted to make our stay the best it could be. Aziz was brilliant on breakfast as was Jess on check out. We left with a smile on our face forgetting any negatives after a lovely morning. Sara and Sean on the bar were great and efficient.

There are many positives about this place but it could be so much better. Staff are a highlight and worth coming back for. Building is beautiful.

We came here for a spa break for my 30th. I wouldn’t recommend coming here for a spa break though as the facilities aren’t up to scratch. We had a facial which was lovely but that’s about as far as the positives go on the “spa” side of things. The pool was freezing cold, including the hot tub area. We spoke with 2 people who were regular members and they mentioned that there was an issue with the boiler a few weeks ago which was supposedly fixed but they said it had been cold ever since then in the pool/whirlpool area. We told the staff in the spa reception but they weren’t much help and advised that the temperature is “regulatory” and they would check it.. the whirl pool was literally shooting in ice cold water. They also told us the spa access was complementary with a hotel stay but we specifically booked a spa break so that was incorrect - we came to primarily use the pool/whirlpool and could only stay in for 10 minutes.

The food was nice in the evening. Not amazing but considering it was including in our package I can’t complain too much.

Always use this hotel when in the area as the staff are a credit (Sarah is always super helpful and goes above and beyond)

As anywhere else, you sometimes get small problems but these are always dealt with in my experience quickly and efficiently. The rooms are...... Well, they're clean, comfortable and spacious with good bathroom facilities.

Breakfast is decent, a good choice of food and plenty of it. I usually just order in a take away for evening food if required so can't comment massively on the hotels food, the small nibbley bits I have had have been great though.

The use of the spa facilites is great - since they have done up the steam/sauna area it is very nice. The changing rooms could do with a bit of attention but this isn't something that bothers me personally as they are always clean and having the facility to dry my swimming gear is a bonus instead of travelling home with wet clothes.

Having visited this hotel numerous times, I find comfort in knowing its hassle free and fills all the needs I have from a hotel whilst away from home - hopefully it keeps up its great standards and I can keep visiting.

Glad I didn’t pay full rate but hey ho ! Decent room
With breakfast and free bottle of wine ! Mind you thought the label on it read Sarsons !!! Who supplied it ? Truly awful ….. Breakfast was good and dealt well with large volume of people . On the whole ok for the price I paid …..
Thanks to all the staff .

We stayed at this Hotel with a group on a coach holiday. When we found our room it was at the bottom of an open courtyard, the door opening out to the yard. Because we had torrential rain for the first 3 days, we got very wet going for our meals, The room was not too bad, could do with an upgrade, there was holes in the bathroom door. Being OAP’s it was quite difficult getting into the high bath to use the shower. Food - the breakfast was very good, lots of variety, but the dinner was poor, particular the main course. After dinner there was no where to sit as the bar/lounge was always full. Finally on the last night we were woken in the early hours by party goers trying to get into the room next door. It was a concern that to get to these rooms, who don’t have to go through the hotel entrance. I see from one of the other reviews they were not pleased with room 41. We expected better from this hotel, and had enough after 4 nights.

Absolutely wonderful stay! We visited here for a weekend Spa break for my friend’s 40th. The hotel is stunning, the room was perfect and the food (we had afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast) was delicious. Great spa treatments and I used the gym too, all super clean with great facilities! The icing on the cake though was the amazing staff. Literally from checking in right until we left, they went above and beyond to make us feel special and were all so friendly and helpful. Special shout out to Aziz and Olivia, also the lovely housekeeping lady who helped us with our bags and wrote ‘Happy 40th birthday’ on the room mirror for my friend and left us treats, such a lovely surprise! You really made the weekend so special and memorable and Mercure should be proud to have such wonderful employees. Thank you so much - we will be back!

Been here a few times in the past, really love this place. The staff are just outstanding. Chris on the dining room is a top guy, really welcoming and so helpful. As are the ladies serving. All really helpful and lovely people. The girls doing massage in the spa are also excellent. Drifting in and out of consciousness whilst lying down in a state of euphoria. Defo one of our faves and defo be back. Few little things that have changed that we wished hadn’t 1) food from the Spa bar has been moved, 2) thermal suites gone smaller. 3) can’t sit at the main bar in robes (although this may have always been the case but in the past we could purchase food from the spa bar). Still a beautiful place though. 4) bring back fillet stakes!

I had the most amazing stay at the hotel and spa! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service. The room was beautifully appointed with all the comforts I could ask for, and the spa experience was simply rejuvenating. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect, and the dining options were a culinary delight. I left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and eager to return. This place truly knows how to create a memorable and luxurious experience. Highly recommended!

We returned to the hotel to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, we were welcomed at the reception wonderfully. The room was superb, spacious and modern. We booked an evening meal on the Sunday night, this was 100% amazing, good portion size and plently of flavour. We were looked after amazingly in the resturant by all the staff who were very knowledgable of the dishes.

The following morning we went for breakfast and this was amazing, we have stayed in hotels previously and the breakfast is a let down but not here.... special mention to Aziz and Edwina who went out of there way at breakfast to provide us with an amazing service and help with our dietry requirements they both are an absolute credit to the hotel.

Finally we booked in for treatments and afternoon tea at the spa on the Monday, the treatments were amazing and the ladies who did the treatments were superb. A special mention for Anne who is amazing if there is anything she doesnt know then it isnt worth knowing she made us at ease and extremley welcome.

Looking forward to a return visint in the future

Came here for 1 night. It was with a voucher we received from Christmas 2022. We first arrived and checked in around 3pm went straight to the room dropped our luggage off and went straight to the spa.
The pool was a decent size. Sauna and steam room were good unfortunately one of the rooms was out or order when we were there. We didn't get chance to lie on the loungers as they were reserved by guest but it does say not to reserve loungers. Needed more loungers round the pool.
Changing rooms had everything you needed which was great.
Came back to the room and I noticed a big stain on the carpet so I wasn't happy with this it wasn't a massive issue but I would of liked to change rooms so rang reception to see if there was a availability to swap rooms and there was. The executive rooms were spacious and lovely equipped it just seemed a bit of a walk from reception.
Rooms had iron, ironing board, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Beds were comfy and big.
We ate at the restaurant there with our overnight deal it included a 2 course meal which I enjoyed mine but my partner had the steak and paid extra and said it felt like a pub steak and not worth the price. The puddings were delicious.
I am a very light sleeper unfortunately so heard everyone walk past at night time. My partner didn't hear anything so would recommend if light sleeper to bring ear budds.
Breakfast was lovely and alot of choice and hash browns were amazing best part of the Breakfast. It was a help yourself buffet.
Overall we had a nice time just the two of us probably wouldn't come back but it was nice to get away and relaxed. Staff were friendly and very helpful 🙂

Great night away from the kids. Welcome at reception (from Becky ?) was amazing. Staff in hotel were great throughout. Room was a tad small but bed v comfy. Good size bathroom. Staff in the bar were so helpful - ran round to find us our complimentary Prosecco and ice bucket. Top guy ! Spa was great - decent size pool. The jacuzzi was integrated so not too hot. Steam rooms and sauna all good size. Slight downside were the staff in that team - not quite as friendly. Breakfast the next morning was good. Hash browns a highlight.

Lovely grounds and beautiful hotel. We called late as we driving down from Scotland and the team made a real effort to accomodate us at short notice.

New rooms were lovely and well appointed, but Alison and Aziz and the reception team made a real difference

We have had an outstanding visit this weekend. The spa service was second to none and the staff (Ella and team) went to extraordinary lengths to meet our every need. We also, cannot praise the bar staff (Kyle/ Sara) highly enough for their attentiveness, humour, professionalism and care. Especially when the venue was so busy. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! 🎉🎉🎉

Booked a Privilege room, it was lovely, refurbished and spacious. Instantly brought a feeling of comfort. Breakfast staff were very helpful with providing cafetière and hot milk. Special thanks to Sara and Aziz who made dinner and breakfast enjoyable experiences. The restaurant refurbishment was lovely, created a calm and relaxing ambience for both dinner and breakfast. The bar was comfortable although I was unsure who was watching the softball! The hotel was very busy on the second night and there was chaos in the kitchen however Sara ensured we got our dessert. Would go back. Even with 3 left feet for slippers 😉

The spa was good, we pre booked our treatments, but they were moved by 30mins prior to our arrival which meant we had to change our meal booking for later on. We booked a twin room and arrived to a double room made up, (see picture) we went to reception and to compensate us we were offered a free drink (excluding fine wine, spirits and champagne). We booked early check in and that took 20mins to complete at a non busy time (arrive on plenty of time there was only one receptionist when we did...and check-in is open from 3pm usually and there are 2 check in desks). Out room was in the courtyard, it was on need of a little TLC (see room review)and was very warm, there was no aircon and the fan was too noisy to have on, even during the daytime, so defo not at night in the room...but there was an additional plug in radiator so it must get very cold in colder weather) there was an iron, ironing board and hairdryer supplied, and shampoo, shower gel and hand wash, nice quality.
The changing rooms for the spa need a serious upgrade, the looked like 1980 school ones, and the lockers are like a crystal maze puzzle to open and lock. The spa itself is downstairs and very relaxing the treatment rooms are air-conditioned which was nice as it was very hot everywhere else. The treatments me and my friend had were very different even though we booked the same ones but we're done by different people. ( some people had treatments cancelled when they arrived or moved to the following day). The relaxation room was lovely at the end of the treatment but we only had 30mi s in there before the spa closed. The pool was busy and had a very strong chlorine smell, and it also has family sessions which lead to the spar entry way becoming very congested. Some people got robes and towels included in their package but others did not, so check if not you can pay.for them I think it was either £5 of £7.50, same for towels and slippers.
The restaurant was understaffed, the greeter was rude and people were walking away and going to get takeout from places nearby. We waited with others for 20mins to be seated and we had all reserved our times, no one apologised for the wait, we were just greatest with name.l and shown to our table. Drinks were taken first and arrived quickly. We ordered starter and main and 40mins later hadn't even got our starter whilst others who arrived after had. It was hard to get staffs attention to check on progress except one guy who came over and resolved the problem quickly. By this time it was heading for after 9pm and we booked for 7.30. I cancelled my main, because it was too late for me to eat and my friend ended up getting a pizza In a Take out box as the restaurant was full even that took an additional 25mins.
Breakfast is self serve in the morning with a well stocked range of hot and cold food and juices and coffee. The man greeting and seating people was lovely much of an improvement over the night before.
Overall I wouldn't choose to stay here again as a first choice, for a Mercure hotel I expected better no matter what room you stayed in, based on past experiences. After the spa treatments you were given the sales pitch to try get you to buy the items used, which was a little overkill, the room not been set up as we had asked to start with them the issues with food in the restaurant just didn't make the overnight spa experience totally enjoyable for me.
Rooms: We had a standard room in the courtyard, it was showing signs of wear, the bathroom was outdated (big chunks of the door were missing from the bathroom side we stayed in room 41). Shower was in the bath and the bath was high to climb over into, people with mobility issues would struggle in this room. Beds were singles. The room was too hot even with the windows open all night. It did have usb sockets and plenty of plugs, and a massive TV which we were able to link up to. Did have good quality shower, hair and hand wash in rooms.
Food & drink: Food and drink onsite was not too badly priced for a hotel from what I saw it looked okay. The drinks were quite expensive. The starter I had was tasty and well presented Harris's hummus and garlic bread it was an okay portion size. The best meal was the breakfast. All the food was well stocked hot and cold, lots of fruits, yoghurts pastries, and your typical fry up. Toast was make it yourself but very quick to do, lots of different fruit juices as well as Ice water tea and coffee's. For food delivered to your room it's a £5 charge per person.

Surprised my wife for a we night here for our wedding anniversary. What a beautiful place this is, myself and my wife really enjoyed it and loved spending the afternoon pampering ourselves in the spa. Room was amazing with some we anniversary touches we got done including the swans and pettles on the bed for us which was so romantic and also wrote happy anniversary on the big mirror with some love hearts around it which was lovely. We are already thinking about booking for next year's anniversary aswell. Definitely recommend the mercure.

Booked an executive room here as part of a deal for a Saturday night away.

The building is impressive from the outside and I was a little concerned at some reviewers' comments about the interior. I needn't have worried, we were very well looked after. Our room was big and the bed was big and the TV was big. All the facilities you would expect and spotlessly clean.

Check in was a bit of a pain, everyone at 3pm so quite a queue and I did hear that there might be a shortage of rooms available for later arrivals.

Complimentary bottle of wine as part of the deal and we played cards in the spacious bar where there was a good atmosphere.

We ate out locally so can't vouch for the restaurant but breakfast was also very good.

I have put average 3 stars because the spa treatments were excellent and the room lovely but the standard of food and the night time noise on our 2nd night let the place down massively.

The dinner on night 1 was average and improved on the 2nd night, the breakfast on the 1st morning was good but dry cooked food which had been sitting for a long time put us all off on day 2.
There was a group of people partying until after 3am on our second night, whooping and yelling, I WhatsApped the night manager but got no reply. Once the shouting died down the door slamming went on for ages.

I spoke to the concierge as we left and although he made sympathetic noises he really wasn't bothered.

I suggest you put some mufflers on the room doors as they all slam. Roam about at night to calm noisy guests down. If there are not a lot of people for breakfast, don't put so much food out, refresh it regularly. The pool area could do with some tiles being fixed.

I booked an overnight spa package for myself and my partner. When we arrived we were both taken aback at how beautiful the building was, and also parts of the inside, although like many have said they're were areas that were run down.
We went to the bar and had some lunch before we checked in, there was a gentleman who seemed to be some sort of manager, unfortunately I can't remember his name, but he was just fabulous, he was around at lunch, in the evening at the restaurant and for breakfast, he was really friendly and welcoming, a true credit to the hotel!

Lunch was good, we shared a selection of starters, it was similar quality to wetherspoons but obviouslya lot more expensive. The evening meal was included, again it was just good, nothing extraordinary. Breakfast was good, nice selection of foods available.

We used the spa facilities and had an ishga Face and Body Experience, this was all very nice, staff were fab as were treatments, however the spa area with a bit of a let down, limited loungers around the pool and most of the rooms were closed except the steam room. The jacuzzi was impossible to figure out, but nice when it worked.

Overall we had a really nice stay, however what put a downer on it and put me off returning was the issue I encountered when I returned home and realised I'd left some items in the room, one of which was a pretty much full bottle of clinique moisturiser.
I rang the hotel on the 5th, I was told nothing g had been noted but I'd recieve a call from the manager of house keeping.... 2 days later I rang back, again no help, on the 9th I called again and the manager of housekeeping rang me back. She told me she'd questioned the maid and there was nothing in the room. Obviously I was disappointed and decided not to leave a review at the time because I felt it would be unfair because I was really upset, this really tarnished the experience, what if I'd have left a really expensive item? Would that also disappear into the ether?
I decided to email the hotel at H6617@accor.com to explain the situation and I haven't even had a response. Fabulous customer service.

Overall mainly good experience, the only outstanding part was the gent wandering around the bar and restaurant. If you book here, please make sure you triple check you r rooms and don't leave anything as no one cares.

What an amazing stay, shannon on reception was amazing. The bedroom was fantastic, we had a spa day booked, everything was fantastic. Dinner was great, special thanks to Shannon, Katie, Carla, and Ashton for making my birthday special. All staff are a credit to this hotel.

On arrival, the building looked beautiful, easy to park, upon arrival check in was so easy, room was easy to find as easily sign posted, Hotel itself has water damage on the stairwell and not tied away wires on the outside, entering the room it was very nice and spacious, but there was a weird large red/orange stain under the mirror. The beds super comfortable and the shower/bathroom was very nice but noticed a dirty towel when arrived. Dinner was reserved, offered alternative burger as didn’t have 1 of the products. When going to bed all you could hear was doors being slammed, the following day breakfast was adequate and somethings over done, went to the spa which was the highlight of the stay Ella was fantastic with great customer service and professionalism, we spoke to another couple who got a room upgrade and free drinks for a birthday, but it seems this was only for selected guests as this wasn’t offered for my partners birthday. The dinner in the evening was awkward, once again ordered a burger and no alternative offered this time just a burger plain bun and little sauce inside, multiple staff standing about felt like being stared at. Breakfast was better the 2nd day.
